Claudia or Louisa

Where do I start… so I’ve had quite a hard birth and baby girl will be our last (which is probably why I’m feeling like I have to get her name right). We have spent a couple of weeks trying different names and none have felt quite right. I’ve changed my mind a couple of times and so has my husband. We’ve gone back and forth and the two that have felt the most natural are Claudia and Louisa (which would both be honouring family members). We like them both equally and will be sticking with them. I have even deleted the extensive list of baby names off my phone… I would be so grateful if I could get some feedback of which one do you all prefer the sound of please? We are looking for a name that is quite classic and won’t necessarily date. I think both fit that as neither has ever shot up to the top of the name charts.. all feedback very welcome ☺️

@MimiSunshine

Toss a coin, heads Louisa, tails Claudia. If you’re a little bit disappointed in the outcome you have your answer. If not then go with the outcome and put the other as the middle name.

If using both then I prefer Louisa Claudia last name.

That’s a great idea as registration day is fast approaching 😂

@CandleRose

Wow that's such an evenly matched name choice! Both equally beautiful, classic, won't date, elegant, slightly unusual for today but still known.

What is your surname like? Perhaps that would make a difference, in terms of initials, or "flow".

If I had to choose then much as I really love Claudia, I'd probably choose Louisa, because Claudia may be frequently be shortened to Claudie which I know is cute enough but it's not nearly as nice as Claudia. Also there may be the "Clawdia/Cloudia" pronunciation difference with some people. I know that Louisa may be shortened to Lou but I think there's more chance of remaining a Louisa in full than a Claudia. But it's difficult as both are really lovely. I don't envy your choice! Also I do know of quite a few young Claudia's whereas I don't think I've ever heard of a Louisa even though it's so pretty.

CandleRose thank you so much for such lovely feedback! It’s honestly taken months and lots of research then ironically ironically the final two ended up being family names 😂 I really don’t mind Claudia being shortened but it’s obviously love the full name more. Are you based in the Uk? I know one Claudia in her 40s and she’s lovely.

I've always loved the name Louisa - so elegant. Claudia feels a little less timeless to me, part of the current vowel heavy trend.

Eloise reminds me of Bridgerton (which isn’t a bad thing).. lovely name but DH didn’t like it as much.

@TeaAndStrumpets

To narrow it down, if she were a boy would you prefer Claude or Louis? Both great but Louis seems more classic?

Btw I know an Italian Claudia and she is called Cloud-ia.

Funnily enough Louis is my husband’s middle name 😂 Maybe that’s why he likes the name so much! Where I’m from Claudia is pronounced Cloud-dia (which I don’t mind). So family would be able to pronounce it either way.

@GorgonzolaSouffle

I think you should use both actually as she’s your last baby.

Claudia May Louisa

Claudia Eve Louisa

Claudia Bea Louisa

Thank you so much for the suggestions! Love them ☺️

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

If it effects your thinking... Luisa is apparently a popular character in the recent Disney film Encanto but not the main character.
Recently watched the movie 😂 trying hard to not associate the name with it!

@TerribleCustomerCervix

Toddler Niece is Claudia- my sister frequently gets comments about how lovely her name is.

It suits her with her dark hair and eyes- I think Louisa is more of a fair haired name if that helps at all

TerribleCustomerCervix I do that too! I associate certain names with hair colour too 😂 My daughter has dark hair and blue eyes so far..

@abigailsnan

I am in favour of Louisa but they are both lovely classic names,my eldest grand-daughter is Abigail Louiza by the way.
That’s a lovely name! Abigail was on our list but have a strong association with DH auntie.

AnaMRT, yes, in the UK. I know a Claudia aged 10, one aged 8 and another aged 4. It seems a slightly trendy name for those "in the know". A bit like Olivia was before it hit its current popularity, although that's not to say Claudia would reach the same heights as Olivia. But it has the same sort of vibe of an early Olivia choice. (IMVHO). It's absolutely beautiful though. So pretty.

SageRosemary · 21/02/2022 10:14

I prefer Louisa

How about Louisa Marie Claudine?

LizzieBet14 · 21/02/2022 10:14

Claudia ❤️

Namaste6 · 21/02/2022 10:15

Another one for Claudia. Very pretty name.

Photolass · 21/02/2022 10:18

Claudia is lovely, it has a certain Roman sound to it. I would go with Claudia Louise.

TabithaTittlemouse · 21/02/2022 10:20

To me they are like chalk and cheese. I adore Claudia.
Congratulations on your little one!

I prefer Louisa. You could always wait until she's born, might be easier to make a snap decision then - that's what we did when we had two names.

CandleRose wow I had no idea! Funnily enough my eldest daughter is called Olivia and she’s 8 now 😂 so the names could go together nicely…

I like Louisa. Came across it recently and asked DP but he wasn’t keen on it 😔
I’m not pregnant but just for the future

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoorNeil · 21/02/2022 11:02

Claudia.

Louisa just doesn't look nice written down..... I vote for Claudia Louise.

TheUsualShitshow · 21/02/2022 11:03

Claudia is definitely for a dark haired blue eyed girl! Louisa is nice but a bit 'meh' compared to Claudia I think.

BreasticlesNotTesticles · 21/02/2022 11:06

I have a Claudia - nn Claudi.

She's 11 and I got a few odd looks when we had her but lots of complements too ☺️

Swisscheeseleaves · 21/02/2022 11:15

Claudia Louise is beautiful!

I'm a bit biased as Claudia would have been my top choice girl's name if i had had a girl. All boys here though! Still a bit sad i didn't get to use it. Funnily enough i had twins and Olivia would have been the second twins name if they'd been girls. Grin we have very similar taste in names!

LottyD32 · 21/02/2022 11:23

Claudia Louise is nice.

TheSpanishApartment · 21/02/2022 11:32

I have a 6 year old Claudia. Gets loads of compliments. She does get called Claud by her friends. We have had the pronunication issue but only occasionally. We don't mind though. Claudia Louisa Marie sounds lovely. I also like Claudia Louise.
