... it sounds so highly unlikely you think people won't believe you?

I have one talent that sounds impossible (I may share later!!) but my great-grandma was about 4 feet nothing tall, not very agile but she could juggle with just about anything you could throw at her that she could physically hold (Diddy little hands too!). We used to just shout "oi Grandma" and throw 3 things at her. it was so funny, and she loved it too.

And my ex could turn a digestive biscuit 360° back to front and widthwaya without it breaking.

(Csn you tell I'm. bored?)

I tend to keep quiet about speaking five languages until I get to know someone. I lived abroad a lot growing up, but it just sounds boastful without that context.

AchillesPoirot · 19/02/2022 19:23

My job.

I am amazed, and in awe! How does your brain fit 5 languages in without getting totally muddled up or frazzled? serious question. Do you have the opportunity to Speak your additional languages regularly?

4 of my friends granddaughters are bilinguals from being babies and I've been fascinated watching them learn and use 2 languages that aren't even similar; and the youngest (aged 4yo) has a best friend who is Italian too so she speaks three languages fluently for her age, and as in she speaks each language at a level a normal. 4year old does. she is She isn't even 5 yet so doesn't start school for another 18 months or 2 years! I really don't get how people can do this.

I know the capital city of every country in the world and can identify every country by its flag. I taught myself in lockdown. Only my DC know I can do this!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/02/2022 20:51

I can make extremely realistic animal impressions.
I only do it for my children

Loopytiles · 19/02/2022 20:52

No talents!

youhadmeatjello · 19/02/2022 20:54

I’m really good at social media. Growing it quickly, getting engagement, I just seem to have the knack.
But I don’t say much about it as it makes me sound a bit wanky and pretentious.

Ruthietuthie · 19/02/2022 20:57

Similar to @ThatsNotMyGolem, I speak 15 languages, 9 fluently. I don't mention this as it would definitely seem boastful. It just doesn't come up, so some people I've known for years don't know.
Learning languages is my thing. And it's also an essential part of my job (I conduct research in a part of the world where people use multiple languages everyday).
My four year old son is tri-lingual too. I am so glad he was able to learn these languages without even having to think about it.

NotPennysBoat · 19/02/2022 20:58

I'm really good at remembering dates. For example I can remember your birthday if you tell me once, it can freak people out if I barely know them!

TheCanyon · 19/02/2022 21:00

I'm a trained architectural modelmaker. Very few people here know that as I was diagnosed with essential tremor of the hands not long after we moved here.

It's came out a few times when doing school projects Grin

McScreamysGhostPants · 19/02/2022 21:04

I have loads. I'm bipolar and so I get hyper focused on new hobbies and they last 4-6 months. During that time I am absolutely consumed and learn everything I can. They vary massively and as a result I have tons of knowledge about the most ridiculous / niche things ever.

I was obsessed with herpetology and exotic animal keeping for 22 years. During that time I was the first person in the northern hemisphere to breed a species snake in captivity that is very rarely kept even by zoos never mind private keepers. I was published in a journal and everything. But to look at me I'm just an average over weight mum 4 living in a crappy town. I can tell /show you how to sex snakes, how to safely handle venomous species and talk about genetics and mutations in certain species until the cows come home. I bred tortoises and various lizards to.

I also know hope to propagate paleonopsis orchids and created 2 new crosses myself. I can make stained glass window panels. I love the history of language and can talk your leg off about etymology .

When talking to new people I do a lot of nodding and non comital small talk. The amount of perks that get freaked out about the snakes is crazy 😂

PollyCreo · 19/02/2022 21:07

I'm a black belt in a particular martial art, don't mention it as it was a long time ago and not the sort of thing you bring up. Our accountant at work as it turns out also has a black belt (but in a different martial art) so we often have secret discussions about a fight-off in the staff car park and selling tickets. Until other colleagues walk past and then we go back to talking about price lists and spreadsheets Grin

Barrawarra · 19/02/2022 21:09

I got a first at uni. Barely ever told anyone as no one asks and I’d sound like a dick to Chuck it in to conversation! Feels quite nice to mention it 20yrs later!

whythefuckdoibother · 19/02/2022 21:10

@ShirleyPhallus 🤣🤣 I just spat my tea out

Kite22 · 19/02/2022 21:12

Surely most people don't tell people they are really good at something, not because they think people won't believe, them, but because it would come across as really crass / cocky / boastful / socially inept.

LizzieMacQueen · 19/02/2022 21:12

@SaladandGravy I don't understand the chocolate disgestive comment.

I also got a first in maths but do not bring it up

I'm excellent at sightreading and play the piano reasonably well.

TheBigDilemma · 19/02/2022 21:13

Getting propsals. 8 so far… still a commitment phobic Blush

AAAAAGHH · 19/02/2022 21:14

I'm very good at identifying birds by sight and by their sounds/songs
I don't go around boasting about this because it's a bit geeky

QueefofSheena · 19/02/2022 21:16

I’m memory woman, I can remember huge detail about things that happened years ago. It freaks people out.

And I can touch my nose with my tongue but I’m not sure if that’s unusual
