... it sounds so highly unlikely you think people won't believe you?

I have one talent that sounds impossible (I may share later!!) but my great-grandma was about 4 feet nothing tall, not very agile but she could juggle with just about anything you could throw at her that she could physically hold (Diddy little hands too!). We used to just shout "oi Grandma" and throw 3 things at her. it was so funny, and she loved it too.

And my ex could turn a digestive biscuit 360° back to front and widthwaya without it breaking.

(Csn you tell I'm. bored?)

@godmum56 ooooh, I know the word queef but I didn’t know the Southern Belle part. Sounds like an interesting party

Fluffmum · 21/02/2022 20:34

Me too I remember everything. My friends find it weird

whatamess101 · 21/02/2022 20:39

I'm a bit face blind so super jealous of those of you who are super recognisers!

But I am a super smeller! This can be really useful - I can smell when people are ill or if food is going off from a distance. I get a lot of pleasure from smells, nature smells amazing to me - soil, moss, flowers, trees. But it can also be really annoying (e.g. I can sometimes smell when someone has their period, other people's smells can bother me even if nice like perfume, I often feel nauseous from smells and it affects my appetite,). I don't tell people because you just wouldn't want to know would you!
@SilverSplitsTheBlue, of course.
English - my mother tongue.
Turkish - my husband's languages.
Various Chinese dialects- Mandarin, Hokkien, Teochew, Hakka, Cantonese
Southeast Asian languages - Tagalog, Malay (Both Bahasa Melayu, the Malay version, and Bahasa Indonesia, the Indonesian version, which are pretty similar), Thai, Vietnamese, Burmese, Karen (Taungthu, Bwe, Geba, Pwo and Sgaw versions - again each is spoken in a different region), Mon, Chin, Kachin, Shan (all these last few are spoken in Myanmar), Japanese, Korean.
Oh, and French. I think that's all.
My speciality is Asian tonal languages. I also write in all of the languages that have a writing system (some of the Burmese dialects don't, for example).
Holy mother of God that is amazing, especially as English is your mother tongue. Wow. Are you a spy?

Meadowbreeze · 21/02/2022 21:40

I'm a boss speed cup stacking.

Waiting for this

@NeverChange

Knitting and crocheting. Think my mum is the only one who knows, not even siblings know I still do it. Mainly do stuff for premature baby units.

It's unusual for someone in their 30s and it isn't a skill anyone rates these days anyway but I enjoy it and it's very relaxing.

Definitely not unusual, especially these days! I’ve done both since my thirties too and I’m now nearly 50. Lots of friends have too.

I'm really good at weird facts and knowledge, great to have on your pub quiz team. I'm ace at recognising songs from the first bar. I have my name in the acknowledgements of two books. I too am a bit of a Cassandra, my great talent is resisting the urge to say "I told you so" when something I predicted comes to pass 😁

nancybotwinbloom · 21/02/2022 21:50

I'm a crack shot. I can hit a target 🎯 in the centre from 400 m everytime

SparkleMonkey · 21/02/2022 22:04

My friends know that I “did gymnastics as a kid”, what they don’t know is that I was a Scottish champion, British champion and qualified for the Commonwealth Games (before breaking my ankle 3 weeks before the competition). I’m now 42 and can still do the splits, if nothing else.

one of the best nights EVER of my life was when my mate and I went to a local quiz night with fish and chips. Most of the teams came as teams and were regulars but folk like us were put into scratch teams..Just any six randoms. Two of our randoms were regulars who only went for the supper. They pointed out to us the regular teams who always made up the top 3 and said that they were never in a winning team but didn't care. Anyway they announced the results in reverse order and we were all relieved to know we weren't last...or second from last.....we get to the final four places and the name of one of the usual winning teams was announced and we are amazed to be in the prizes....but we aren't third or second either.....yup, team scratch no hopers won! talk about grin ache!
Pokersecrets · 21/02/2022 22:10

I'm good at doing the sort of witty/warm comment on Twitter that gets hundreds of likes - usually in reply to a celebrity. I don't even have a particularly active Twitter account, I just like to pop on, reply to whatever celebrities I follow with a funny comment, and then feel oddly pleased when the celebrity nearly always replies and I get hundreds (sometimes thousands of likes). It's a pointless hobby, and I used to think it was just how Twitter worked, but I eventually realised that most people don't use twitter to have personal and lovely conversations with big celebs.

PUGMEISTER21 · 21/02/2022 22:12

No pun intended, isn't that what happens if you are really good at it?

Rightyouarelove · 21/02/2022 22:24

I love this thread. How amazing (and probably undervalued) you all are.

I don’t really have anything other than a weird sixth sense. I can tell when a child is going to be ill (before symptoms) or someone is going to cancel a date. It’s all based on logic, emotional intel and patterns of behaviour but utterly mystifies my OH Grin

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 21/02/2022 22:28

I’m good at crochet, but most of my friends know that.
I also scored about 160 on that national IQ test thingy (does anyone else remember? It was quite a big thing on the telly in about 2000 or so..) top 2% of the population, but to most people I’m a pretty average single mum (not degree educated, spotty work history, currently unemployed).

buddylicious · 21/02/2022 22:44

Remembering lyrics from songs that I haven't heard for 40 years (but can't remember what I did this morning).

Actually that's nothing special ...it's old age!

scryingeyes · 21/02/2022 22:51

@Alexandra83190 tell me more please 😁

mollymcguire · 21/02/2022 22:55

I was the only woman in Ireland too do the job I was doing, completely male oriented.

I also was a rally car driver! Now I'm a boring 40odd Mam ! But still like to rally the roads every so often!

Boxerbird · 21/02/2022 23:15

Username is a giveaway but I’m a pretty mean boxer. These days I just spar with DH but do it most weeks as it’s so good for stress. Don’t tend to tell people though - I’m a classic sensible goody-too-shoes mid-40s mum with a serious professional job.

annabanana88 · 22/02/2022 00:11

I'm amazing at multi-tasking...for example I can be stood doing the dishes while shitting 😊!! I have a colostomy bag 😂

Mamanyt · 22/02/2022 00:19

@ShirleyPhallus

I really am incredible at giving blow jobs

Not really ice breaker conversation that

LOL, I can braid four maraschino cherry stems with my tongue. Matching talents? Maybe.
Treesandsheepeverywhere · 22/02/2022 00:31

When watching movies for the first time, I'm good at knowing the lines. DH is always amazed as I use the exact same words in the right order.

MarvellousMonsters · 22/02/2022 01:52

@DrivingHomeChristmas

I can get any baby or child into an age appropriate sleep routine with self settling in about 2/3 weeks. By age appropriate I mean a small baby might still wake regularly but will go down at 7pm and settle quickly after feeds. My newest recruit ( a refugee child who has been nocturnal for 8 months) has it cracked after 3 weeks. I use a multi sensory approach to build triggers for sleep, and it’s quite intense supporting them into a routine, but there is no controlled crying or trauma, just lots of routine ( I’m a foster carer)
Self soothing/settling isn't age appropriate until about the age of 5, so I'm not sure how you are doing this (without some kind of non-obvious trauma) with younger children and babies.
