If you had three spare bedrooms in your house...

What would you use them for?

It looks like we may be in this situation someday soon due to a change of circumstances. What would you use these rooms for in an ideal world?

Playroom
Office
And a room to foster kittens Grin wouldn't happen with 2 young DC though, so most likely a guest bedroom

@Helpthishouseworkhater

So jealous can I move in with someone?
Our house looks lovely and yes, we have lots of space, but is a total money pit, it is cold and rather damp and tbh now we are officially old and should have retired I'm hankering for a smaller house that is warm dry and comfortable! And, now I'm mostly retired from all the craft courses I used to do, I won't need all the extra rooms.

Hotelhelp yes I'm fine, thank you for asking. The OP asked what we would look at doing with a spare room. I answered!

TheBitterBoy · 20/02/2022 00:02

Wow, I wasn't expecting so many people with similar extra rooms. Lots of food for thought. I'd definitely like a sewing/ironing/craft room.

Regarding all the suggestions to foster, that's not a place we are in either emotionally or mentally, regardless of having spare rooms.

We are two in a four bedroom (though DS is at Uni so not fully launched yet)
Spare bedrooms are turned into:
-Studio (for sewing and art, my massive fabric stash is under a double guest bed)
-Study (DH WFH, keeps him out of the way)
-Train set room/DS occasional room (when he's not in halls)

I have free rein in the Studio, so am literally painting art onto the walls, God help whoever has the house after us when they start trying to redecorate!

colliecolliecollieoioioi · 20/02/2022 06:48

ours is a gym

cultkid · 20/02/2022 06:50

Use had three spare bedrooms

All three were full of shit

Now two have children in
And I'm expecting my third 😭

Afonavon · 20/02/2022 06:57

@CrochetBug

Craft room with storage and room to keep the sewing machine out. Plus a table for papercrafting.

Library with big comfy armchair to read in.

Spare bedroom for guests.

We have no spare rooms, however if I did, I would have this setup ^

Imagine a reading room with no distractions, lovely!

Actually, after working in a SN school I would love my own sensory room/meditation room.

Blankiefan · 20/02/2022 07:18

DH and I each have an office (both still full-time WFH and plan to stay WFH 3 days per week long-term) and the other us a guest bedroom. All rooms have good storage for their purpose and overfow from the rest of the house to keep us tidy.

Mydogisagentleman · 20/02/2022 07:28

We have this.
One is where DH works from home
One has a sofa bed and running machine plus easel and canvas and paint
The other is our DDs old bedroom, now for guests

TrickyD · 20/02/2022 08:18

Two set up as proper bedrooms for when guests or family stay.
One half-lined with full bookcases which DH also uses as place to keep the paperwork that he deals with.
Nice and neat and tidy

One with the desktop and printer and my sewing machine etc. Also a sofa bed for times when the influx of family peaks.

We also have a small room on the ground floor which I use for my paperwork.
it is is never nice and neat and tidy.

CrabSnake · 20/02/2022 08:19

One is a guest room, one is a gym and one is a study. We'll probably put a sofa bed in the gym eventually.

PolarBearInDisguise · 20/02/2022 08:21

A home office, a craft room and a second living room.

FindingMeno · 20/02/2022 08:24

Office.
Walk in wardrobe.
Guest bedroom/ reading room/ meditation room (with a sofa bed and bookshelves)

HelloDulling · 20/02/2022 08:25

One with clothes airers and ironing board.
One dressing room.
One spare bedroom.

okelydokelyneighbourino · 20/02/2022 08:25

Sounds like a dream at the moment I'd just be happy for one extra so the kids didn't have to share.

If I had three extra rooms I'd have a games room with a proper pool table for me. An office and a guest room.

RockstarDotCom · 20/02/2022 08:30

We use our spare bedrooms as guest rooms, dog bedroom 😂 and a games room.

CrispsnDips · 20/02/2022 08:34

We rent one spare room out to a lodger ..the HMRC say that you can earn around £7,000 pa on renting a room in your house before having to pay Tax. It has worked well for us so far in that the lodgers have been respectful of our home; it’s also really nice to know we’ve helped someone because there is a shortage of nice rooms available (our current girl has managed to save a deposit for a house - alongside her boyfriend - whilst being here)

Oldraver · 20/02/2022 08:47

We currently have two spare, one used as a spare that OH uses when he's on shift

The other us now a sewing room and book store

konasana · 20/02/2022 08:51

My friend shave a guest room, an office, and a dressing room. I don't have this problem 😁

wendywoopywoo222 · 20/02/2022 09:50

I rented both my spare rooms to lodgers, bought a camper van snd went on holiday a lot.

KitKattaktik · 20/02/2022 09:53

We have 4. One is a spare room for guests. One is my study/craft room. One is DH's hobby room. The last is being converted to a dressing room.

The small sitting room is going to be a reading room with just comfy settees and bookshelves.

Tumbleweed101 · 20/02/2022 09:54

I could potentially have three spare rooms in the future. I intend the tiny room to be a walk in wardrobe/dressing room, one to be an office/library and one as a guest room. This might change if I end up with grandchildren and need more beds.

FujiIX · 20/02/2022 16:19

Top tip
If you have adult children, make them buy their own bed, then when they move out if your house, they have to take it with them. You them get an empty room to do with as you wish AND they can’t just move back in on a whim.
