If you had three spare bedrooms in your house...

What would you use them for?

It looks like we may be in this situation someday soon due to a change of circumstances. What would you use these rooms for in an ideal world?

We have two unused bedrooms in our house. One is my office and the other is DP’s office.

CrochetBug · 19/02/2022 16:54

Craft room with storage and room to keep the sewing machine out. Plus a table for papercrafting.

Library with big comfy armchair to read in.

Spare bedroom for guests.

ExactlyThat · 19/02/2022 16:55

One would be a walk in wardrobe, one a craft room, and the other probably just a spare room. Or I’d convert one to an en-suite maybe.

Xanadu58 · 19/02/2022 16:56

Dressing room
Sewing/craft room
Guest room

User48751490 · 19/02/2022 16:57

Lego room/games room.

Spare room.

Library.

OlafLovesAnna · 19/02/2022 16:57

In our house there are 4 bedrooms in use and 3 reception rooms so it's a bit similar. We use biggest sitting room and dining and grown up drinks type room, the next one as an Xbox teen room with sofa and shoe/coat storage, and the other as a cosy tv/book room.

We've only been here since Oct so uses may evolve as teenagers go to university etc.

We don't have a designated 'guest' room as we probably don't have enough overnight visitors!

AKAanothername · 19/02/2022 16:57

All three are spare bedrooms, available for any guests. The big one gets used quite a lot, the other two not so much.

SignOnTheWindow · 19/02/2022 16:57

What I'd have:

Exercise room
Laundry room
Guinea pig room

Loopytiles · 19/02/2022 16:58

Would LOVE this! If both wfh sometimes would do study each and a guest bedroom. Or one shared study, guest bedroom and use the biggest room for exercise.

CraftyGin · 19/02/2022 16:58

Have you thought about fostering?

CrimeaChimera · 19/02/2022 17:00

Ahah! Right up my alley as we were in this situation.

-1 we turned into an upstairs sitting / tv room
2- turned into a very little libray
3- into a study

Then we had 2 DCs. So they have a room each and a play room.

TheFlis12345 · 19/02/2022 17:01

We have two spare rooms. The smaller is DH’s office and the bigger one is the guest room plus my office / dressing room. If we had three spares I would have the guest room completely separate from my office / dressing room.

grapewine · 19/02/2022 17:01

That sounds like a dream!

  • Walk in wardrobe/dressing room.
  • Office
  • Laundry room.
OlafLovesAnna · 19/02/2022 17:02

Oh and the (grotty) conservatory is a cat room as it has a cat flap to a catio! The previous owners had beautiful pedigree cats rather than moggies like ours but it's a handy place to put the litter box and shut them in when we've got workmen in.

Also one of the windows doesn't shut properly so it's too chilly to sit there at the moment despite being south facing.

TheChosenTwo · 19/02/2022 17:03

Bil and his wife are in this position. The three of them in the house each have their own office (nephew included! For his homework Grin ) and the other room is a laundry sorting and ironing room. Each of the offices have beds in for guests though so they do double duty.
There were 4 of them in a 6 bedroom house, intention was to have more dc but unfortunately it never happened for them. Then eldest ds moved out so now just 3 of them.
We have 2 spare rooms, one is a bit of dumping ground but has a bed in it and the other is an official spare/guest bedroom.

MonkeyPuddle · 19/02/2022 17:03

Guest room
Soap making room
Storing soap making supplies.

ExConstance · 19/02/2022 17:05

We have 4 bedrooms and I now use the smallest as a sewing room. Since we had the kitchen extended we don’t need a dining room, so that is our yoga and meditation room.

Justkeeppedaling · 19/02/2022 17:05

@ginslinger

I use one as a study, one as a bit of a dumping ground with ironing board, laundry baskets, cupboard with crafts etc. There's a bed sofa in there. And one as a proper spare bedroom
Same.

We have 5 bedrooms. They were all use as bedrooms until about 6 years ago.

Now one is my wfh office. One has a double bed but is used for drying and ironing clothes and the other is set up as a spare double room. I use it when DHs snoring gets too much.
One is our room, and the other one is our remaining DCs room.

Joiq · 19/02/2022 17:09

I have this, I use one for my office with my books in etc, one for my hobby stuff, music, crafts and a gaming room.

Leah2005 · 19/02/2022 17:12

Sewing room,library, guest room

Strokethefurrywall · 19/02/2022 17:14

Music room
Yoga room
Guest room

Joystir59 · 19/02/2022 17:16

I have two guest rooms, which is great when family or friends come, and I use one as a studio.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 19/02/2022 17:16

We have 3 spare bedrooms.
No1 is a dumping ground.
No 2 is a dumping ground.
No 3 is FULL of stuff for DH's hobby.
The dining room is also hosting stuff for DH's hobby.
As is the kitchen.
Oh and the utility room.
Our next house will have all the required rooms downstairs (ie living , cooking, eating, sleeping, and my craft room), and he will be confined to upstairs - all of it, complete with bathroom and possibly makeshift kitchen. Grin

HTH.

Peppapigforlife · 19/02/2022 17:17

Meditation room, second living room that doesn't have toys in it, and then a creative/study room with craft projects, books and all other nice stuff in it.

needmoreshinys · 19/02/2022 17:17

sex dungeon? ;)

In my dream world, I would have one for my sewing, one for lego and a spare bedroom for when DP was snoring
