If you had three spare bedrooms in your house...

What would you use them for?

It looks like we may be in this situation someday soon due to a change of circumstances. What would you use these rooms for in an ideal world?

@Feministwoman

We have this. Large study/library/craft room (has both mine and DH office space in, plus lots of tables, storage and two walls of books) Guest bedroom, with yet more bookshelves. Upstairs sitting room with TV, more books, comfy sofa, (used to be a play room)

Downstairs has a large utility room, which doubles as a soap/lotion/balm/candle making room with storage for supplies, dedicated craft cooker and utensils.

Dining room has my sewing machine, serger, quilting table etc, set up along with sewing supplies, fabrics and related books. Plus ironing stuff if needed.
(These can be packed away into dedicated storage when we need to use the dining room)

I want your house.

I'd love this I'd have

  1. For more rabbits
  1. For even more rabbits.

Argg pressed post too soon!

Sitting room has another dining table at one end, other end tv, music, sofas, etc. And more book shelves. Wink

Lucky to live in a large (very old, shabby) house with lots of large rooms, and adult DC mostly moved away.

All the upstairs rooms (6) have ks/double beds/sofa beds in, so we can have guests, but we only have one dedicated guest room with a ks bed, which is kept (mostly) free of clutter (apart from pre Christmas, or when I'm having a clear out!)

I guess I could actually move all the fabric/ art craft stuff into the one mostly unused bedroom and set up in there now DD has left home for good. Which would leave the dining room free. And still keep a spare.

I guess we'll have to down size, eventually. No idea where all the stuff will go!

Marmite27 · 19/02/2022 17:43

We have 6 bedrooms.

3 are taken up with ours and the DC’s rooms.

First/largest is a tidy spare room with a desk set up for WFH for me (DH is in the actual office downstairs).

2nd largest has exercise equipment.

Smallest is a second lounge/snug with tv corner sofa and bookcases with dvds on.

Smallest ha

I have one as "my" room, with dressing table, mirror, chest of drawers, shoe and handbag storage. Plus a comfy chair where I can be quiet. Another is an office/study with computer and printer etc. And finally an art/creative room where I have sewing machine set up. I feel unbelievably blessed to have more space now, following years in quite cramped small space.

FujiIX · 19/02/2022 17:47

I have 3 spare bedroom as both dc have moved out
One is office as Dh is wfh
One is spare room
One is ironing room

Itsnotdeep · 19/02/2022 17:48

I'd probably have a dressing room (which I'd knock through to my bedroom), and a fitness room. The other one would be a guest room I think, although I only rarely have people to stay.

I had one of my bedrooms as a sitting room before but didn't really need it and I already have a desk in one of the rooms downstairs which which I like.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/02/2022 17:53

I have three ‘spare’ rooms technically. I have one as a dressing room next to my bedroom, one as a spare bedroom with a sofa bed that I also use as a small upstairs sitting room, and a study.

PinkSyCo · 19/02/2022 17:53

One as a dressing room. One as a guest room/study/snug. One as a gym/hobby room.

AlwaysLatte · 19/02/2022 17:55

We have 4 actual bedrooms in use (for us, two kids and a guest room) then 3 rooms that could be used as bedrooms, but I wouldn't call them spare bedrooms as such as we don't use them for that..One is a den for the teenagers, one a games room and another an office.

One is my 'office', one is a guest room, one is 'long term' box storage, one is wardrobe storage (winter clothes/summer clothes), Xmas decs, and 'short term' storage.

Makes us sound like hoarders, we really aren't. We just have 30+ years of 'stuff' plus a lot of our adult DC's stuff 'since you have the extra room'.

TheHoptimist · 19/02/2022 17:56

We both have an office with sofa, tv etc

foreverandalways · 19/02/2022 17:56

I use one as a guest room, one as a dressing room and one as a craft/hobby room

CurryandSnuggle · 19/02/2022 17:59

Relaxation room. Have a sofa in there, with gaming, books etc, like an extra living room but your little “hideout” if you want space for yourself.

RowanAlong · 19/02/2022 18:00

One guest bedroom
A study/library
Then if it’s downstairs, a craft room - if upstairs, maybe a wardrobe/clothes storage/ironing kind of room.

WutheringHeights66 · 19/02/2022 18:04

We do, the kids have left home now.

Smallest room is my office. I’ve worked from home for 15 years but previously I had the loft conversion as it was two floors away from the noise. Now I have the smallest room. Second bedroom is now a lovely oasis away from the rest of the house with a day bed for reading and can also be a guest room. The reality is, it’s the cats bedroom.

The third bedroom is really a bolt hole spare, for me when my menopause heat is getting too much or DH snoring is a pain.

We utilise all the rooms, especially the fitted wardrobes which are in all four bedrooms. DH and I have spread out across them all and it’s bliss.

PARunnerGirl · 19/02/2022 18:08

I do and they are:

a gym/ yoga room (dumbbells and a bar, a bench, static bike, yoga stuff, Pilates ball, TV for classes etc)

my office since I’ve always WedFH

a guest/ spare bedroom (for when his snoring gets that bad Hmm Grin )

itsgettingweird · 19/02/2022 18:14

One is a spare bedroom.

One is a tv room/office/ reading room. (Somewhere people are banished to watch rugby!)

One is a storage room (it's only a box)

Beachbreak2411 · 19/02/2022 18:15

Fridafever · 19/02/2022 18:17

I only have 2 spare rooms but squeeze lots of theses suggestions in! One is my dressing room/ sewing room/ office. The other is the library/ guest room.

Bumpy23 · 19/02/2022 18:18

We have a spare spare room, I use it to dry clothes, crank the radiator up. And to dump stuff

Sunnyday321 · 19/02/2022 18:19
