Re the Virgin flight that diverted to LGR with the emergency squawk, I hope I’m not being flippant here but I do wonder if one of the pilots asked the other “Do you smell smoke?” Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 21/02/2022 12:05

GMA58 landed back at farnborough.

BabbleBee · 21/02/2022 12:23

I wonder who MOVIE belongs to…. Appears to be a failed landing at Bournemouth and now heading back to Farnborough.

RampantIvy · 21/02/2022 12:33

Anyone watching FORTE11 over Ukraine?

M-OVIE , Isle of Man registered (for those that don’t know how aircraft registrations work that’s indicated by the M prefix)

A bit of internet sleuthing shows it to be owned by or at keas5 at some point has been owned by INEOS, Jim Ratcliffe’s company.

notimagain · 21/02/2022 12:45

..”least” not “keas5” Hmm

Bunnyfuller · 21/02/2022 12:58

@CaveMum ah thank you!

ErrolTheDragon · 21/02/2022 13:07

There's a us airforce refuelling tanker doing loops over Poland.

handslikecowstits · 21/02/2022 13:25

Anyone seeing all the fighter jets that have been taking off from the east coast in the last 10mins? Never seen the fighter jet shape before and they’re everywhere

CushionSpiral · 22/02/2022 11:08

Some heading east and some patrolling the coast

I’m not too far from the US Air Force bases in East Anglia, they’re always flying training missions so wouldn’t read too much into it unless they head for Eastern Europe.
CaveMum · 22/02/2022 11:14

Several of those jets further north are Hawks, which are RAF training planes so nothing sinister in those.

notimagain · 22/02/2022 12:13

Agreed, there’s absolutely nothing sinister in that amount of fast jet movement over the North Sea…
BabbleBee · 22/02/2022 12:28

@CaveMum I grew up around them - the Mildenhall air shows were brilliant! My parents are there too, and the only difference is the arrival of the F35s at Lakenheath.

The air traffic was hugely increased at the height of Iraq and it’s nowhere near that busy now.

CaveMum · 22/02/2022 12:40

@BabbleBee there hasn't been an air show for years unfortunately. DH is ex RAF so attending air shows can be a bit of a busman's holiday for him!

So local legend goes, when Barack Obama visited the UK (and Air Force One landed at Mildenhall) Michelle Obama was allegedly seen at the BP garage on the A11 just outside Mildenhall Grin

BabbleBee · 22/02/2022 12:45

@CaveMum no, there hasn’t. 9/11 was the absolute end of any access to the bases, but I was a child when I went - must’ve been mid 1980’s? There was an American family renting a house next to us and I’d often be allowed to go with them to the base. Wouldn’t happen now!

I grew up in the nearby RAF town, once that closed (and the hospital closed with it), it changed everything radically. I do have very fond teenage memories of being in the NAAFI…

I think a few eyes would be opened, and jaws would drop if it was possible to wind Flightradar back so you could see the amount of training being done by the RAF USAF and other NATO air forces over the North Sea back during height of the Cold War…..

It really is relatively quiet these days..

CaveMum · 22/02/2022 12:47

Next time a jet goes over my house I'm getting the app out! We often see the C17s practising landing runs around our village, circling low on approach then pulling up and coming back round again. Over and over and over again!

BabbleBee · 22/02/2022 12:47

@notimagain there was a steady stream of coming and going to Mildenhall. I clearly remember the massive, massive planes coming in and feeling scared that if the base got bombed then there’d be problems. My dad had to sit with my many nights to ease my fears that we were going to die!! Very dramatic Grin

handslikecowstits · 22/02/2022 12:50

Currently watching FWAVE. I want to know where it's going to land. US or Canada, I presume.
