What’s behind your belly button? On the inside.

Just this - do not Google it!
Presumably the inside bits just die off ??
Putting my finger into my belly button makes me feel weird and I’m 50. 😳

Right so....what happens to animal's umbilical cords when they're born? I know in the wild they tend to get bitten off does that happen eg when dogs are being bred in domestic settings? Just let the mum get on with a good old bite of the litter? Do they each have their own placenta or share one massive one? How does it not get infected, we had to be so careful with DS' umbilical stumps until they dried up and fell off.

Fuck me a whole new world of questions has just opened up about animal belly buttons. I've got vets in the family I might have to go armed with a notepad next time we go visit them. They're retired so I'm sure they'll love my list of questions taking up their leisure time

Oh no I can’t look at this.

I am utterly phobic about my belly button being touched. My ex was a wrestler - sturdy bloke - and he tried to poke it, knowing my feelings about it, and I had him pinned to the floor in seconds.

I remember going to get laparoscopy stitches removed once, back in the days they weren’t dissolvable, and the nurse also had a belly button phobia. It was a chorus of “eeee, oooh, arrrghhh” from both of us 😂

Onthedunes · 18/02/2022 00:08

@KloppsTeeth

Yes mine too, with matching lines on earlobes which I think indicates heart disease.

greenlynx · 18/02/2022 00:08

A lot of fat behind mine, too much actually. And I have no one to blame for this but myself.

Jbck · 18/02/2022 00:08

Best song ever when DDs were small.

HeadPain · 18/02/2022 00:18

You're making me feel that weird belly button feeling just by reading this thread title

KloppsTeeth · 18/02/2022 00:19

@Onthedunes I’m going to have to take photos of my ears tomorrow to check it out.

HeadPain · 18/02/2022 00:21

@ginghamstarfish

When I was a kid I thought fat people were fat because water went in through their bellybutton while they were in the bath.
😂😂😂😂
HeadPain · 18/02/2022 00:24

@HelloCanYouHearMe

My DP has a round "dip" where is belly button should be.

Im scared to put my finger in mine in case it just goes on forever and I end up turning myself inside out

😂😂😂😂😂
StarsAreWishes · 18/02/2022 00:24

I used to have a beautiful belly button before being pregnant. Now it just looks like a slit and has no sensation.

I do remember being absolutely appalled when, at about 5 months pregnant, I got to the chapter in the pregnancy book which explained that it was going to pop out. I was NOT pleased!

HemanOrSheRa · 18/02/2022 00:25

@Diablo2

I know that if you unscrew it, your bottom falls off.

My Mum told me that, and she wouldn't lie to me, would she?

No, she didn't lie. My Mum told me the same. It's a true fact.
HeadPain · 18/02/2022 00:29

@Lipsandlashes

I know when I was pregnant and it started to pop out a bit, that I kept pulling the dog’s hair out of it 🤢
Oh god nooo
NYnewstart · 18/02/2022 00:46

One of life’s great mysteries.

Why do all men have blue belly button fluff? Only blue!

merrymelodies · 18/02/2022 00:48

I had a tummy tuck about 15 years ago and for some reason, my bellybutton got infected. It was nasty - pus everywhere and redness, swelling... the surgeon had me back in to clean it. I was on even more antibiotics. To this day, I can't stick my finger all the way in because it makes me feel sick. I found something hard in there last month though. Like a piece of horn.Confused

CharlotteRose90 · 18/02/2022 00:57

I didn’t mind my belly button till I had surgery and one of the incisions was there. Now I hate it and don’t really look . Saying that though as a kid I used to poke inside my belly button 😂

“To this day I can’t stick my finger all the way in”

Do you mean you can’t stick your finger to the end of your belly button, or (gulp) you can’t stick your finger in to the end of your finger?

There doesn’t appear to be an emoticon for graceful fainting.

Booklover3 · 18/02/2022 01:11

@Gardeningtipsneeded

I don’t know but poking my finger in it send a shooting sensation down to my vagina which I don’t understand at all.
Yep
GuidingSpirit · 18/02/2022 03:00

@DropYourSword ok thanks! When i said cut, i mean instead of being allowed to shrivel up and drop off in the few days after birth, they cut it off at her stomach to put in the line. It was cut at birth in the same way as other babies. I did wonder at the time if it would affect how her belly button would look - to me her belly button looks like a combo between both inny and outy, but that might be coincidence? We shall see what happens as she gets bigger!

Justilou1 · 18/02/2022 03:45

All the missing socks. (This explains navel lint)

I heard it's to do with the fact they tend to have more body hair and all the lint / clothes fibres end up congregating in their belly button
HaveringWavering · 18/02/2022 08:01

@TheRealMrsMac

I say tummy. I might be a tad twee. You have to say belly dancing though. It's not tummy dancing. Also belly flop. It's not tummy flop.
Reluctantly agreed!

Dogs: They have a placenta each, and an amniotic sac each.

Ideally you want to stop the bitch eating too many placentas because it gives them the shits, but they are fast! If you're quick or the both isn't interested you can tie off and cut the cord like you would for a baby, again, you have to be faster than mum! The stump withers and drops off in a couple of days. Generally mum keeps puppies clean so that's not an issue. I had to keep an eye on one of mine because the stump was really short, mum was so enthusiastic about eating the placenta I thought she was going to eat the puppy too, so she got a bit too close when she was nibbling.

IglesiasPiggl · 18/02/2022 08:32

.

MojoJojo71 · 18/02/2022 09:20

I don’t know what else is behind them but I know that the umbilical vein which becomes redundant after birth becomes one of the ligaments that supports the lobes of the liver and that is joined to the back of the belly button . In some severe cases of liver cirrhosis when the portal vein is compromised it can become recanalised and transport blood again. (I’m a sonographer btw not just someone obsessed with belly buttons)

TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek · 18/02/2022 09:35

@AnneLovesGilbert

I think you can not have one if you’ve had a tummy tuck. I saw a model who didn’t have one once, she looked very peculiar.
*@AnneLovesGilbert* I had a tummy tuck many years ago, and because they cut the old one out they made me a new one, as otherwise it would look very odd. 30 odd years later I am only just starting to get feeling in my 'new' belly button. It felt weird for years when cleaning it because I couldn't feel anything!
