What’s behind your belly button? On the inside.

Just this - do not Google it!
Presumably the inside bits just die off ??
Putting my finger into my belly button makes me feel weird and I’m 50. 😳

Mine doesn't feel like anything when I poke it...should it? Shock

mynameiscalypso · 17/02/2022 21:48

Oh god. This thread makes me feel sick. I hate belly buttons with a passion.

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/02/2022 21:50

Very glad to see this thread. I’ve thought of it often and googled it a few times but didn’t really understand.

A finger in mine always made me need to wee but since having a baby I feel nothing.

Belly buttons are gross but also quite magical. The only thing weirder than one is a person who doesn’t have one. Are they even human?

Snooks1971 · 17/02/2022 21:50

What blows my mind a bit is that we all have belly buttons but we know nothing about them 😳

I feel nothing when I poke mine. Am I missing out?

NotImpossible · 17/02/2022 21:51

@Diablo2

I know that if you unscrew it, your bottom falls off.

My Mum told me that, and she wouldn't lie to me, would she?

GrinGrinGrin

That's made me properly giggle.

I know!!

I knew they were from where the umbilical cord was attached so I just assumed they were some type of scar.

I’ve never questioned why they don’t look like regular scars and go inwards.

Snooks1971 · 17/02/2022 21:56

I have a colleague at work who had bowel surgery years ago - we chat openly - they went through her belly button so it’s now skew-wiff. New consultant said that they should have gone around it.

My dad told me the same ! And it’s true 🤣

Can you not have one?! Shock
saraclara · 17/02/2022 21:58

I don't feel anything when I press mine. Or at least it feels no different from pressing anywhere else on my abdomen.

I thought it was just me!!

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/02/2022 22:00

I think you can not have one if you’ve had a tummy tuck. I saw a model who didn’t have one once, she looked very peculiar.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/02/2022 22:01

I have a scar on mine as well. A while back I had an unpleasant smell coming from there and it kept getting sticky so I don't want to think about what was causing that

Geezabreak82 · 17/02/2022 22:01

I think there's loads of nerves in there that are connected to your bladder and your urethra for draining waste in utero. It's those nerve connections that make your vagina tingle when you stick your finger in your belly button or for me it makes me feel like I need to pee.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/02/2022 22:02

When I was younger mine used to fill with a stinky liquid occasionally 🤢 I think it was annoyed by tights fluff. I don’t get it any more, it was gross but it was a feature..

OhFuckBloodyHell · 17/02/2022 22:03

Mine has always hurt and made me feel a bit ill if I poked it. But I had surgery last year and they stabbed me in it to do one of the keyhole bits. It now doesn't hurt or feel weird at all!

Hoppinggreen · 17/02/2022 22:04

@teobeo

I have a mole in mine - the skin type not the small, furry, cute little mammal Hmm
The second half of that sentence is very disappointing
mumoffloofs · 17/02/2022 22:04

Apparently mine is weird. After a failed attempt at key hole appendectomy discovered my umbilical cord didn't properly detach so they got stuck. Gives me the ick even more now.

rambleonplease · 17/02/2022 22:06

When I was pregnant it got a good clean out... a load of dust was in there

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 17/02/2022 22:07

I've always assumed that it was some sort of valve, where the doctor/midwife inflated you after you had popped out of Mum.
Is that not the case?
(I didn't study obstetrics when at medical school - I focused on blood and the pumpy thing in your chest. )

Frlrlrubert · 17/02/2022 22:08

The ligaments become parts of other structures but I guess are still weirdly connected which is why it feels weird for some people.

I had gallbladder surgery last month and I used to have a inny bellybutton but with like a tiny outie bit inside. Since the surgery the outie bit is gone (scar is below my belly button so no idea why) and all I feel when I poke it is a hard nobble of what I'm assuming is internal scar tissue that wasn't there before.

Tellthemagain · 17/02/2022 22:08

ugh I dislike the feeling ... but HATE someone else putting their finger in there Envy. My wife does it every now and again just to traumatise me
