So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

Yep, that's a military helicopter flying school at Shrewsbury. They are up several times a week. It's RAF Shawbury.

Have a look in the mornings and evenings around Aberdeen for more chopper fun - doing the taxi runs to and from the rigs in the North Sea.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 17/02/2022 12:06

Helicopter just flew over but not on map, is that because it was too low?

ShavingTheBadger · 17/02/2022 12:11

For those of you who are newbies, the Beluga is coming into land at Hawarden v shortly - just flying through N. Wales at the moment.

I've seen that plane on approach into Finkenwerder while doing a tour of Hamburg Harbour. A great site to see.

Oh wow - you're all still going! Will be checking in when I get 5 minutes. Those getting on planes in the currently conditions are braver than I (although I am terrified of flying at the best of times).

Omg... I'd not heard of that.Grin

All day, every day. My mum is on the flight path and the6 are low and loud!

Crazykatie · 17/02/2022 13:18

I’m not sure how many diversions there were yesterday, most landed after 2 or 3 tries, fun and games tomorrow!.

liveforsummer · 17/02/2022 13:35

Bet these are noisy going overhead about 13,000 ft

Half a dozen Hawks zooming around Cardigan Bay /west wales. Some of them have fun names - reptile, ninja and OB1

First time I saw the Beluga was sat in John Lewis car park near to the airfield when it came over the top of the building and it frightened me to death. It really is a beautiful aircraft, seen it a few times since.

“ At 29,500ft?grin”

Grin back at you…

yep that’s a little bit high for tankers ….either of the floating or flying variety…

ATrifleofFun · 17/02/2022 13:53

A friend works for the met office and says an awful lot of flights being cancelled on Friday, possibly 80mph gusts in South West. Long haul flights will be diverted a long way South. Have just outed myself if she is on here Blush

ErrolTheDragon · 17/02/2022 14:03

There's a Twin Otter just over Mull now which I think is the flight to Barra. The only airport where I've watched the runway being prepared! I wonder if they'll attempt it tomorrow?

notimagain · 17/02/2022 14:12
@notimagain oops yes its Heathrow....I'm a newbie with all this, does that mean that it may be diverted? I've got to drive from Bristol area early in the morning so worrying about that too!
Sorry for the late reply…

My crystal ball is as bad as my eyesight these days….with that in mind…

You mentioned a 0630 ish arrival - The latest LHR forecast has the wind from 0600 until 0900 as 20 knots gusting 35 knots, across the runway and also a chance of rain….that isn’t great, it will be bumpy, and a lot depends on how wet the runway gets but could well be within limits…so it’s fingers crossed..

FWIW the LHR forecast gets really ugly after about 0900 with the wind becoming more westerly gusting to 55 knots.

Yes, it worked. Goodness... that must have been scary (hopefully the ferry or whatever it was made it safe to harbour?)
Legalconundrums · 17/02/2022 14:17

@theskyispurple

I was with you all last night, live right by SOU so heavily invested in that poor flight. Couldn't stop flicking between Ukraine flights and Manchester. It's fascinating and addictive. I do remember the storms from last year and the guy who live streamed all the stuff from Heathrow (I think) - must find that again. The Poseidon plane - just done a google - so that's owned by the us navy and is used for anti submarine stuff as well as other kind of monitoring and targeting reasons? So is it safe to assume that it circling as last night means it's got it's eye on something? In which case do they talk to the British navy????? I mean how does it work???
Me too, I live under right under the flight path south of Eastleigh, I can literally see the pilot's eyes in the cockpit :-)

Just been flicking through some forecasts and I’m not surprised short haul cancellations are starting, pretty the whole of the UK looks like being a mess, with some places getting snow showers in addition to strong winds..

BTW, general point for some of the spotters..it’s not the Beluga, singular, there’s a whole fleet of standard sized Belugas and also some Beluga XLs….Given the down turn in aircraft production ATM Airbus are even thinking of trying to use some of the fleet as general cargo carriers.

Carpediem15 · 17/02/2022 14:47

It is much easier to type The Beluga rather than one of the fleet of Belugas.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 17/02/2022 14:55

I'm flying back from Malaga to Luton tomorrow afternoon! I'm getting nervous

CaveMum · 17/02/2022 14:58

Without totally giving away my location, I live close to the two US Air Force bases in East Anglia - gets very noisy at times and bloody irritating when they're practising their night time flying!

Does more than one of them have a beluga face though?
ErrolTheDragon · 17/02/2022 15:05

Disappointingly, the radar stopped tracking the Twin Otter as it descended towards Barra. However, there's a photo of it taxiing off the runway a few minutes after it landed. Not too bad a day there today. They could do with cleaning the salt spray off their camera though!Grin
