So do others thoroughly check out the menu before going to a new restaurant

Or are you like my insane friend who will look at the menu tomorrow when we go for brunch and decide in the moment HmmWink

Also, how many mains is too many for brunch because I can’t decide between 3 full meals off the menu Grin

Never look in advance. Most places I like to go to change the menu every few days, so they are not available to look at anyway. I never know whether I’m in a fish/meat/pasta frame of mind until I’m at the table.

ComDummings · 12/02/2022 19:51

I always look in advance Grin

rifling · 12/02/2022 19:51

I'm in Italy. I know it's going to be Italian and it will be good so I don't check in advance! Downside - I pretty much know what is on every menu anyway.Grin

JaninaDuszejko · 12/02/2022 19:52

Beyond checking the menu when planning to go there to see if it looks good then no, I don't plan in advance.

Dyrene · 12/02/2022 19:52

I’m not sure it is insane to decide in the moment. How can you know what you’ll feel like at that moment days before?

Do you generally find change and spontaneity difficult?

iklboo · 12/02/2022 19:53

Pretty much always, yes. I have to have an idea of at least three different dishes I might fancy for each course. It's a given they'll be out of at least one of them - it's a family joke.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/02/2022 19:53

Always check the menu!

I very rarely decide what I want in advance but I'll narrow down my options. Too stressful otherwise Grin

AndTime · 12/02/2022 19:54

I always check the menu! I love food and can look forward to it properly if I know what I am having!

ClariceQuiff · 12/02/2022 19:55

Yes - and it's really frustrating if I choose a restaurant on the basis of a good online menu only to find that the actual menu is totally different, which has happened to me several times.

Leftbutcameback · 12/02/2022 19:57

Always look in advance. Partly looking forward to it, and partly checking there is a good veggie option. Also making sure I don't order too much with an empty stomach!

BarbaraofSeville · 12/02/2022 19:58

Yes, I need to make a start on choosing because I'm always too busy chatting to look at the menu so need to have an idea what I might have.

Plus I really like reading menus, so it's not a chore.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 12/02/2022 19:58

Always look beforehand, I'm a dreadful ditherer.

Londonlassy · 12/02/2022 19:58

Always check the menu. I start looking at the desert section and then work backwards.

delilahbucket · 12/02/2022 19:59

I always check, but not necessarily to decide what to eat, but more to get a measure of the place. There are a lot of things I can't eat which also have an impact on where I go, so I like to know if there's something I can eat before booking.

Aimee1987 · 12/02/2022 19:59

Yes. I have food allergies. I need to check I can actually eat at a given restraunt.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/02/2022 20:01

I like a browse. Especially if taking the children, so I can talk it through with elder DD. (Shes a bit awkward... likes a massive range of food but not necessarily together!)

CoupDeGrass · 12/02/2022 20:03

Never. But I am not very fussy!

daisyducky · 12/02/2022 20:04

I check & have a rough idea before I go. Before kids never as I love browsing the menu but since kids I have to as they're still preschoolers by the time I've got them sorted the waiting staff will already have been over 3 times to see if we're ready to order 😂

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 12/02/2022 20:05

Ah, my people Grin

I don’t mind change or spontaneity at all but I do mind going to a restaurant and it all looks so good and I panic choose. Or it looks shit and I’m disappointed!

I’m not fussy either. There’s 3 things I won’t eat and otherwise I’m pretty chill!

Vinorosso74 · 12/02/2022 20:06

I always check. I'm a vegetarian so want to make sure there's something suitable to eat!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/02/2022 20:06

Of course I check!!!

FloBot7 · 12/02/2022 20:08

I check because I'm vegetarian. My mum has to check otherwise she'll spend 30 minutes trying to decide on the day. She loves food and has serious FOMO when she sees dishes leaving a kitchen . Hilarious until you're left starving while she decides.

DuesToTheDirt · 12/02/2022 20:09

I always look in advance. We are all veggie and many restaurants get ruled out on the basis of only having one veggie choice, or having nothing that fussy DD will eat.

Lindy2 · 12/02/2022 20:09

I'll have a quick look to check the kind of things they do and to get an idea of the price ranges but I won't decide until the day.

What 3 mains are you deciding on? We'll help you choose. Grin
