Suddenly on my own for tea...what should I have?

Unexpectedly rid of my kids for a couple of hours...going to watch a film and eat something nice...but what?!
I don't want to cook (much) but really don't like carry outs and ready meals are always disappointing...
Is there anything easy / decadent I could rustle up?! I'm needing to pop out anyway so happy to grab ingredients!

Puttanesca - sauce done in the time it takes the pasta to cook!

I usually wing it but here’s a recipe

dancemom · 12/02/2022 16:58

I'd go for crackers and pate and nice coleslaw and salad and nibbles

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/02/2022 16:59

I'm going for a chicken big mac 😳

Mundra · 12/02/2022 16:59

Soft boiled eggs and toast.
Poached eggs on toast.
Erm, mushrooms on toast.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 12/02/2022 17:00

I’d get a really nice tuna steak and make a nicois. Tuna is so quick to cook, quicker than than boiling the egg.

TeddyTonks · 12/02/2022 17:01

A baked brie with lovely crusty bread to dip

Superoverthinker · 12/02/2022 17:04

I've ordered a Jamaican.. I have a infant and 2 others and have been round the town centre all afternoon, dh gone to his mums so I cant cook as the baby will wake up if I out him down

Blackmagicqueen · 12/02/2022 17:04

God on own for tea is the stuff of dreams. I'd have something calorific and comforting! I'd eat it on my knee while I flicked through Netflix! Fresh pasta and a fresh stir in with garlic bread or oven jacket pot with nice filling, a pizza, possibilities are endless!

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 12/02/2022 17:05

Duck pancakes and prawn crackers. Tesco does the best frozen kit.

midds3 · 12/02/2022 17:05

@HunterHearstHelmsley aren't they all sold out now?

I usually go for what @dancemom has suggested when it's just me. Also take the opportunity to indulge in a few treats without having to share with the kids.

Blackmagicqueen · 12/02/2022 17:06

Oh and op don't forget about dessert!

TakeYourFinalPosition · 12/02/2022 17:07

@HunterHearstHelmsley I don’t think they’re available at the moment, it was on the news that McDonald’s had run out of the ingredients and has paused them until they’ve got more stock. Just to stop you being disappointed!

ToooOldForThis · 12/02/2022 17:07

@Blackmagicqueen me too! Never ever ever happens, hence me not having a plan!
These suggestions are all delicious thank you!!

Id probably have hummus and a packet of crisps. Protein and carbs. And a glass of wine for one if my five a day. Balanced diet.

If I was feeling like making something id go for the Mindful Chef minestrone soup recipe (swapping out chicken for tofu). It is amazing :)

girlinglasses · 12/02/2022 17:10

Oh the dream!! I would want comfort food, maybe a quick chilli. Fry red onion, chuck in some pork/beef mince, brown, add 1 tsp of all spice, add a couple of table spoons of tomato purée and some chipotle paste (about a tablespoon, depending on how much you like spice) and 350mls beef stock, simmer down for 15 mins until thick. In the mean time throw on some basmati rice/Quinoa/bulgar wheat, and bonus points for dicing some apple and red onion and chucking in a bowl with some red wine vinegar while the chilli cooks. Add a dash of olive oil and mix before serving on top of the chilli (along with sour cream/Greek yoghurt and cheese, obvs). Whole thing takes under half an hour and there is minimal chopping and maximum flavour. I've made myself really hungry.

overthethamesfromyou · 12/02/2022 17:10

Crisps and dips, washed down with a glass of white wine

Benjispruce5 · 12/02/2022 17:11

I would have a very cold glass of Sauvignon blanc with some soft goat’s cheese, red grapes and oat biscuits. OR
A selection of sushi OR
Nachos with guacamole and salsa and sour cream with an ice cold beer.

CrunchyNotMe · 12/02/2022 17:11

You are all making me hungry!! My go to comfort food is egg and soldiers. Takes about 10 minutes and tastes yummy. Or replace the soldiers with oven chips.

What have you got in the cupboard @ToooOldForThis ?

Yum!

My solo treat was a shortcrust pie from M & S with veg and creamy mash (all M & S) with thick gravy and zero effort from me. Eaten in front of Netflix watching what I knew no one else wanted to see!

Let us know what you decided on!

Benjispruce5 · 12/02/2022 17:14

OR a nice feta, red pepper and spring onion omelette.

Poledra · 12/02/2022 17:16

Charlie Bingham fish pie for one. With some crusty bread and peas, and a big glass of cold white wine.

I love that too. Or boiled eggs. I can’t have boiled eggs because then everyone else wants the buggers, together with hot buttered toast and it’s a battle trying to get the eggs exactly the right consistency for everyone.

So it’s my rare secret guilty pleasure and all the better for being that

GnomeoAndPaulette · 12/02/2022 17:18

A massive pile of bacon/sausage or fried egg butties with lots is salted butter on think white bread

mumofone234 · 12/02/2022 17:19

Rotisserie chicken, focaccia bread, olives, salad, etc. All you have to do is put it on a plate! Yum.

MsSquiz · 12/02/2022 17:21

@midds3 & @TakeYourFinalPosition I think it depends where you are.
As I was reading that they were all sold out/stopping selling them, I was eating one!
