It's ridiculous. I'm a 37 year old woman. I have 2 kids, a job I love. I function reasonably well!

I cannot butter bread. I make a complete mess of it. Holes in the bread etc. I can't blame it on hard butter because I use marg.

I'm ill and bored. Please make me feel better by telling me the "easy" things you're shit at.

Front crawl breathing.
After 5 or 6 panicky strokes I have to tread water and get my breath back.

Leftbutcameback · 11/02/2022 23:07

Have just seen a PP comment about handwriting and that's me too! My team used to have competitions to guess what I'd written on post it notes. I've found a couple of types of pens that make it better, but it's been awful ever since my first degree (when I wrote a lot of lecture notes). I did try and improve it for my second degree but three hour exams killed it.

I'm so glad I made this thread. I have trouble seeing myself as a competent adult, and doubt myself all the time. It's nice to see that other people have trouble with everyday tasks. (And I was nervous about making my own thread)

@Norugratsatall I'm the same with rolling Rs! I started learning Spanish and gave up very quite due to lack of R rolling ability!

Leftbutcameback · 11/02/2022 23:09

@sgtmajormummy it's all about the breathing out. If you try and breathe too soon that causes panic because there is air left. I taught myself to bilateral breathe and still count the breathing out.
@Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin does it not just spread across the whole pan then?
No. I just put a bit of oil in, crack the egg over it and let it do its thing. Once it is hot enough, l just spoon some oil over the yolk and it is done!
Used to thinknyou had to heat the oil first but then it was spit and splat all over the place - cold oil was a game changer!

PinkButtercups · 11/02/2022 23:13

Cutting fruit. Like watermelon for example.

I just hack at it in the end.

Loki64 · 11/02/2022 23:13

Im terrible at make up and hair no matter how much i try.
I also cant make peopercorn sauce from the packet for shit. It goes wrong every single time?!

coastergirl · 11/02/2022 23:15

@Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin

I'm tempted to make a fried egg now to test this out! I hate the spitting oil.

Home decor. I mean, what on earth

PinkButtercups · 11/02/2022 23:16

Oh and making a bastard omelette.
I don't even eat them. But when I've tried to make them for DP I don't even know what you can compare it to tbh.

mizzo · 11/02/2022 23:16

Swimming breathing- I can't breath out enough underwater so end up panting when I lift my head out,

Cook rice that isn't uncle bens, it ends up mushy on the outside and hard in the middle,

Cook oven chips- either burnt or soggy,

Keeping on top of laundry- it never ends!

Small talk- I'm terrible at it and there's awkward pauses and a lot of soooooo Blush

Shaving my legs- I always have a strip of long hair!

dipdye · 11/02/2022 23:16

Can confirm that rice cookers are fabulous

mizzo · 11/02/2022 23:17

I forgot about egg cooking! I can do scrambled and that's it. I don't eat eggs so that's probably part of the problem.

TwentinQuarantino · 11/02/2022 23:18

Sewing. I've attended numerous courses, workshops and classes and I just can't get it. Given up now.

Making decent round chapatis. I've been making them for over 20 years (South asian), but they're still mostly weird shaped and shit.

Cooking - I can generally follow a recipe and cook well, but I can't throw random ingredients together like some people and make an amazing dish. I can never remember amounts. Another issue is when expected to use an estimate of ingredients or I have to deviate from the original recipe (like when expecting guests and making double or triple the amount), I just panic and can't work how much to use. I need specifics.

Mollysocks · 11/02/2022 23:19

@TheTurn0fTheScrew

keeping house plants alive. Whenever I ask people how they do it, they look at me like I'm an idiot and mutter "water, air, sun, food". I provide all of these things and I am still surrounded by dessicated vegetation.
Same! I literally follow directions to the letter and still they go a weird colour or get brown tips or just die.

Only things I can seem to cope with are spider plants (I swear they are immortal) or cactuses!

Do it!!! And post a pic!! 🍳

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 11/02/2022 23:29

I can actually do most of the things on this post 😊

Clock change days make me mad and I constantly think about what time it 'should' have been and overthink it

Daenerys77 · 11/02/2022 23:29

Never managed to complete a forward roll in gym at school, haven't tried since-fortunately I have never needed to.

Wore my hair long for many years but never managed to get it to stay 'up' for more than ten minutes.

Egg-poaching defeated me until I learned to do it in the microwave.

momls20 · 11/02/2022 23:30

Frying an egg, cooking rice Blush

KitchenDancefloor · 11/02/2022 23:30

Hello fellow (probably undiagnosed) dyspraxics!

See all PPs for things I can't do

Plus packing. Oh my goodness. I can just about do the thinking, finding stuff and putting in a bag for one night away. Any more than that I'm stuffed. I've been left sobbing in front of an empty suitcase with the contents of my wardrobe all over the floor the night before a family holiday.

My poor DH. He packs everything for him, the kids and joint family stuff including paperwork, chargers etc. it's usual for him to be in bed with me packing around him.

I think it's too much to process. What do I need for all weathers? What do I need to have at home when we get back? What will fit or not be too heavy? How many cosmetics do I usually use? What do I need to put in hand luggage? And shoes? Books? Handbags?

But I have an awesome sense of direction though. I can find due north anywhere and rarely need Sat nav if I've had sight of a map before a journey.

I just can't bloody pack.

Dogmum40 · 11/02/2022 23:34

Anything sporty (that can include bowling and crazy golf)

Anything arty and crafty ( I draw a great stick man and can sew a button on)

Anything relating to hair and beauty ( I can dry my hair, put on foundation and lipstick and that’s about it)

I’ve realised I’m pretty useless.

Not being smug but I can cook an egg ( but I can’t do anything else - I’m clearly the village idiot who eats eggs Grin)

ElephantandGrasshopper · 11/02/2022 23:34

I am useless at anything requiring physical coordination or spatial awareness - dancing, parking a car, tying shoelaces.

I have no sense of direction at all, I get lost on the way back from the toilet in a pub, I can never find my car in a car park (if I ever manage to park it in the first place).

I have the worst sense of balance and struggle to walk down hills. I could never contemplate wearing high heels as I would fall flat on my face within seconds.

To balance things out - I am a pretty good cook and can make omelette, poached eggs and rice. I am good at small talk. I can keep most plants alive.

coastergirl · 11/02/2022 23:36

@Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin damnit, now you've challenged me I'm thing to have to try it! BRB 😂
