@MissConductUS

My job requires you to be a certain type of person

Champagne, do you work in law enforcement? I've probably been watching too many British police procedural television shows. Smile

Blush

miss I'm no stranger to a good drink but am always very cautious in a work situation. Tonight I drunk 3 pints of beer before walking out the door, upright and completely coherent. What nobody realises is that the bar we were in had 0.5% beer on draught and I have been availing myself of that all night. I will never be the one who vomits outside the pub or pole dances by the bar or falls asleep on the Chief Inspectors shoulder

I am home and in bed - the photos have not yet started to appear on Facebook so I would guess the night is still young.

HelenaJustina · 10/02/2022 22:15

I’m waiting for fairy cakes to cool so I can ice them. DC3’s class are in charge of the cake sale tomorrow and it’s apparently absolutely vital they take something in and no slack will be cut for my crappy week

caringcarer · 10/02/2022 22:28

My sister has been given a promotion. She works so hard and finally it has been recognised. I am so happy for her.

caringcarer · 10/02/2022 22:33

Sueelleker, sorry for your loss. Try to focus on he does not have to face any more chemo now. He is at peace. Look after yourself. Don't forget to eat.

Silkierabbit · 11/02/2022 00:50

I have been joking with DH all week about wanting an apple strudel, they are on coop website but our local one does not stock them. Tonight he came with one he had made himself. It was excellent.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/02/2022 06:44

Your DH sounds great! Enjoy the strudl.

IWanderedLonely · 11/02/2022 08:33

I didn't find any quilt covers I liked in the sale, but did come away with a valance for the very old divan in the spate room that grandchildren use for sleepovers. Reduced from £18 to £5.40

Sunbird24 · 11/02/2022 09:14

I had a bacon bap for breakfast, and then 2 of my work colleagues have brought in home-made cake, so I shall not be needing lunch today…

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/02/2022 09:52

We need to buy and transport home several 40l bags of potting soil - by underground unless DH decides to get a Miles for the occasion.
And then we have to get the bags up to the 5th floor - by teenager.

That's why I always buy mine from Amazon!
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/02/2022 12:13

@sueelleker - If the Amazon delivery person would deliver to the 5th floor and if potting soil wasn't more expensive via Amazon, DH would be tempted. At the moment it is cheaper to do the work ourselves. Grin

MissConductUS · 11/02/2022 15:26

I usually buy potting soil at the warehouse club. The bags are huge but I can get them into the shopping cart trolley and then into the back of the car. I make DH take them out when I get home and carry them out to the deck where I do my potting. I don't think it's in stock yet. They're still selling snow shovels and 50-pound pails of calcium chloride.

Today is DS's birthday. I've texted him to wish him Happy Birthday. He confirmed that he got the package with his card, presents, candy, and home baked goodies and liked everything. He can't possibly be 22 but somehow it's happened. Smile

Happy birthday MasterConduct. I too have a 22 year old. It does, indeed, seem like only yesterday that he was learning to talk and now he's teaching me American culinary vocabulary Smile.

The words valance and fossicking are great and I shall aim to include them in conversation in the coming days. Always fun to teach DH new English words.

I hope that the trip to Scotland isn't a complete wash-out Silkie. I remember taking the train up to Edinburgh from London in the glorious summer of 1990.

Lugging heavy weights up 5 flights of stairs is not unknown to me Prok. DC1 lives on the 5th floor of a Parisian block and we helped her move in. You have all my sympathy for your logistical dilemma.

Yesterday I cut a long fringe into my hair so I can flick it either side like Farrah Fawcett (I look nothing like her). So far no-one has noticed, or if they have, they have decided not to comment.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/02/2022 16:14

Makiwa The house is from 1911, 104 steps up and we do have a male teenager who should work for the food we shovel into him (BGB §1619 Grin)

Makiwa · 11/02/2022 16:27

Prok I've never counted the number of stairs up to DC1's flat. It's in a building about 20 years older than yours and the stairs are circular so I just concentrate on continuing going up and around! Excellent use of your male teenager Smile. They do have their uses.

MissConductUS · 11/02/2022 18:45

This is borderline exciting, but I'll mention it anyway. Our favorite Tex/Mex takeaway restaurant has announced on their website that they are reopening tonight after being on "winter break" since before Christmas. I have so missed this option!

I have to temper my hopes. They made a similar reopening announcement in January, then didn't open. I think it's been a staff shortage issue, as they usually do a very good business. So now I just have to select among the chicken, crispy steak, or smoked brisket tacos. I usually get two and we share a starter.

Hi all.

Stressful day today.

DB has appointment after his biopsy over a month after he had it. It’s for end of February. He is currently in pain but better on new meds. I’m convinced it’s going to be v bad news. He is telling DM at weekend which is really scaring me. DM been through a lot and is so happy at the moment.

DH Nan very ill so he has gone to visit.

Echobelly · 11/02/2022 18:49

Sorry to hear that @Lemonsandlemonade - all the best to you and your family.

I've started looking for new jobs in earnest - it'll probably take a while as there aren't a ton of them in my field. Nearly 9 years at the same place, at the top of what I can earn so it's time to move on now I've established the digital skills that have become necessary in my field since I started there. Going to look for a new interview outfit as I presume people will be doing them in person soon, at least after first stage.

DoctorTwo · 11/02/2022 19:28

Had a gasket replaced on the car today, it was relitively cheap. At least the damned thing isn't leaking oil all over the place anymore.

MissConductUS · 11/02/2022 19:46

Lemons, I'm sorry to hear about your DB. Does he have the final biopsy results yet? If he's in less pain on the new meds, that's certainly positive.

Echo, try indeed.com and set up automated searches. LinkedIn is also crucial. Lots of recruiters work through LInkedIn to find people and they have job postings now too.

DoctorTwo, was it the head gasket? That's a big job on most cars. Our old Forester needed that done and it made more sense to trade it in and buy a new one. It was really quite fortunate that DH and I both got new cars right before the pandemic as they're so scarce now.

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/02/2022 20:15

@MissConductUS no this is the appointment to get that result for it.

Coz I have to try and think of something positive DS clapped hands when I sang if you’re happy and you know it to him today.

And I had a breakthrough moment with a child in work today.

MissConductUS · 11/02/2022 21:14

Congrats on your breakthrough moment with the student, Lemons. Fingers crossed for the biopsy results.

I just rang the Tex/Mex place. They have actually reopened. Grin

I am watching Wales v Scotland U20s. I don't know why really and it's in Welsh so I don't understand all the commentary, and can't work out how to get the English.
I still have no start date for the job I was offered in September but managed an ad hoc shift there yesterday.
Best wishes to you and your DB and DM Lemons.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/02/2022 22:04

Lemon I am keeping my other fingers crossed for your DB.
And a breakthrough must feel very satisfying and hopeful.

Silkierabbit · 11/02/2022 22:25

Lemons sorry its a long wait for your DB and hope the news will be OK.

I had more apple strudel today with cream then had sweet and sour prawns and mixed fried rice for dinner. Been so sleepy all today and yesterday, partly as not sleeping at night. Two more sixth form interviews done for DD.

Hope you get a start date soon Sprouts

Sounds good a takeaway reopening MissC

I am sure DS (ASD) would know exactly how many stairs we have in our house. I remember once being at a hotel and saying to DS there are a lot of stairs and he said yes and the exact number.

Trying to stay awake to do my exercises but not sure I will. My next appointment is on Valentines Day and by video though no video link.
