Thanks Silkie so do I.

I couldn’t imagine having a chicken in the house. My experience of chickens is they have a very distinctive smell. She will be laying coz it’s warm I’m sure.

Coming up for two years since DDad passed. Weird thing happened today. DS crying flat out for ten mins I’m driving along on quite a bad road Dads fave song started to play DS instantly stopped crying and is calm. Any other song or silence and the crying continued queue me playing same song on repeated about 50 times!! Things like that o find odd.

MissConductUS · 23/02/2022 22:51

I have a small confession to make. I found two more rolls of the nasty pandemic paper towels kitchen roll in the garage. I shoved them into the paper recycling bin, as I can't bear to back to using them.

Lemons, that's quite interesting. I can be a bit woo sometimes, but there could be a connection between the song/your dad/the baby soothing.

The silkie does not smell at all, it just when people don't clean you get a smell, similar to a cat if you only cleaned litter tray every week. Its worse outside as well due to the mud. We have hemp flooring down as well, DD is very amused the silkie's floor is cannabis.

Silkierabbit · 24/02/2022 01:08

DD said that DS has been feeding the silkie but the silkie is knocking the bowl of food over each time, she thinks it maybe to share her food with rabbit (rabbit certainly thinks that's the idea but unlike animals to share food).

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/02/2022 04:16

To be fair Silkie I’ve only dealt with chickens on the farm or walked past the million and one chicken sheds near me not pet ones if you see what I mean. I wasn’t suggesting your Silkie smelled 🙈. Just never thought it possible to have a domesticated chicken!

mathanxiety · 24/02/2022 04:26

MissC here's hoping your trip will go well.

Lemons fingers crossed for your DB, and what a wonderful thing to happen when you were driving.

I am happy to report that I bought the third cushion. I arrived at Goodwill at 8:55am and stood in the pouring rain for five minutes waiting for them to open. I also bought two balls of 100% wool yarn to make into boiled wool slippers after I crochet them and destroy them in the washing machine. When I was on my way home it struck me while waiting for a gap in the traffic to get out of the car park that I could have bought a wool sweater and wrecked it and cut out the crocheting step altogether, and at the second traffic lights it occurred to me that I could have just trawled the racks for a sweater that was already shrunk to toddler size. There are usually several such sad items for sale there. Either there is something funny in the ventilation system in that shop or I need to eat bigger breakfasts before heading out in the morning.

We are to have more snow tomorrow.

IWanderedLonely · 24/02/2022 08:40

We were forecast snow during the night but there's nothing.
Having a quick slice of peanut butter on toast before work.

HelenaJustina · 24/02/2022 09:28

Grey and wet here, no snow. DC2 has just appeared asking for a lift into town at 10am, I told her to bring me another coffee while I think about it.

MissConductUS · 24/02/2022 13:22

I had an easy trip to the airport and have about 40 minutes until my flight boards. It's clear and cold so good flying weather.

One of the cats was antsy this morning. I think she realized that I'm leaving.

Currently off the coast of Georgia. Just had a nice coffee.

Hope you have a good trip MissC

Its fine Lemons I was also worried about the silkie smelling if we moved her in but more concerned she was happy and she is a lot happier and does not smell. DH who was very sceptical I could hear baby talking her today, how is my lovely Ruthy, bork, bork, bork from DH. DD said her friends are Shock when she tells them.

Got hail on the thatched roof today, looked like snow but now back to sunny again.

Its nice to have this thread, the news (Russia) and the share prices / inflation are all scary today.

Dh said it is French pancake day tonight again so we are having our second lot of pancakes - third lot are 1st March.

LoveFall · 24/02/2022 18:39

I hope you have a great trip MissConduct. I am slightly envious, I confess.

It actually snowed in Vancouver last night again. Looks about 1/2 inch. It is cold enough that it has stayed on the ground.

Thankfully not the foot we got around Christmas. Poor dog could not figure out how to poo as his hind end hit the snow. It was a bit funny really. Mr pampered pooch looking at me signaling "save me."

I am looking forward to sausages and mash tonight, although DH always mourns the loss of English sausages. Ours never have enough sage apparently. We tried making our own once and they were good but just too much messing about.

I have mastered a very tasty caramelized onion gravy.

I like the cold for sleeping and feeling all snugly under the quilt. Oddly enough I am already starting to think a few worried thoughts about a repeat of the "heat dome" we had here at the end of last June. Hopefully the film we had put on our south facing windows will help. It was no fun being that hot.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/02/2022 18:43

à propos pancakes:
Monday is the start of Karneval (which is not celebrated in Berlin - not catholic and the Romans haven't been either), which - I fear - nobody will be allowed to celebrate in the Rhine area 3rd year running.
On Tuesday there will be pancakes in Berlin Berliner Pfannkuchen and then Lent.

LoveFall · 24/02/2022 19:33

All this talk of pancakes is making me think of my grandparents (and Mom) making platar. A little round Swedish pancake served with butter and lingonberry jam.

So so good. It was a very special treat. I think I need to fire up my Finnish/Swedish DNA and make some.

halfpasteleven · 24/02/2022 20:59

Those pancakes sound delicious @LoveFall
You should definitely try making them..
I'm not a huge pancake person- I'll eat them on Pancake Tuesday with lemon and sugar but we only make them about 2 or 3 times a year really. My DS loves them- I must try to make them more often.

Hope everyone is warm and cosy during this weather

MissConductUS · 24/02/2022 21:14

@LoveFall, you can buy genuine British sausages online.

I've just had a dip in the pool. It's 30C here and lovely. I've just picked up a cafe mocha and a chocolate croissant for a pre dinner snack.

I've learned three things today watching Scott & Bailey. People in Manchester can say ass instead of arse, they don't particularly like southerners, and you can call another woman a mad cow with affection. This is educational television to be sure.

I loved all the different fruit juices and jams like cloudberry, lingonberry etc when we were in Sweden and Finland. The children loved the word Blablarsoppa when we were there.

Love pancakes here. Enjoy yours Prok this week. DD is getting grumpy though, she has been at the gym 1.5 hours and I think is getting very health conscious and nutella and fruit pancakes are not in her approved list atm. Had a savoury one and DS, DH and I am very happy with them. DH and I are having salmon, spinach and cream then I will have nutella and strawberry one after.

Silkierabbit · 24/02/2022 21:19

Beautiful pool MissC.

Is that like the Danish ebelskiver? (Saw them being made on GBBO once)
halfpasteleven · 24/02/2022 21:22

Enjoy the pool Miss C.

LoveFall · 24/02/2022 21:26

This is what my Mom's looked like. It brought a tear to my eye just now. My sibs and I used to sit at the table waiting as Mom cooked them, goofing around hitting our fork and knife beside our plates and chanting plet tar, plet tar, plet tar. Until we were told to stop, busually by Dad.

I spelled plattar incorrectly.

swedishspoon.com/plattar/

I am not sure if they are the same as the Danish ones.

Spudlet · 24/02/2022 21:33

You guys. I found you! I sort of lost track of the threads with the puppy and marathon and course madness that was my life at the end of last year and I kept seeing the threads pop up in active occasionally but I never posted. But now I am! How lovely that they’re still going, in a seemly and calming fashion! Smile

I have relatively little news I think - the puppy is now a terrible teenager, but for all the hormonal angst, he’s developed a lovely bond with DS and the two of them are thick as thieves. Actually we have to separate them sometimes as they get each other into mischief Grin I did my marathon and passed my course, so now I am into my second month of running my own business Shock It’s going ok so far! Today I collected my branded t-shirts from the printers during a hailstorm, then managed to turn up a month early for an appointment due to a mix-up with dates (better than a month too late though I guess…) Blush That’s basically my news. How is everyone else doing?

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 24/02/2022 21:36

Thank you all for the kind condolence messages.

@MissConductUS that looks lovely and am well jealous sitting here shivering.
@Lemonsandlemonade hope the news is good for your DB.

It hailed here this morning just as the poor supermarket delivery guy got out of his van. DD and I were still in bed as she’d had a very bad night (sickness etc) so DH woke us at 10 having sorted most of the shopping bless him.
One of the programmes we really enjoyed the last series of is starting again tonight but we’re recording it so can fast forward the adverts. “Resident Alien” if anybody else watched the last one.
