Eerily still here with occasional gusts, but getting obviously worse.

The Intrepid One has had to cancel as the flibbertygibbets at Network Rail have cancelled her first train.

DDog2 is having enormous fun and zooming round the garden at top speed. DDog1 enjoys it but is hampered by his very long ears that keep blowing in his eyes Grin

HelenaJustina · 18/02/2022 08:37

We decided to close the school and I emailed parents at 7.07am. Remote learning it is… while I get a head start on the half term house tidy.

Sunbird24 · 18/02/2022 09:38

Seconds after I emailed out a document to hundreds of people that my boss had approved last night, he decided he might want to make changes, so I’ve had to try and recall it, and it’ll be me that looks silly not him Angry

Bigfishlittlepuddle · 18/02/2022 10:40

I'm trying in a very lazy way to get ready for a property inspection tomorrow.

Makiwa · 18/02/2022 10:56

MissConductUS It's always rewarding to help those less fortunate than ourselves. She's looking forward to the layover. Covid has brought out some difficult passengers especially those who don't want to abide by the mask wearing rule but she also has lovely people who take the time to write letters of appreciation. I like your kitchen paper story, it's the sort of thing that I'd do. Kitchen paper is know by its brand name here - Sopalin - much like Kleenex is used for paper tissues.

Your son sounds like a lovely young man Champagne. Having grown up in Africa I know that his work in Kenya will have changed lives. Best that the Intrepid One was stopped before her travels began!

Prok good luck with your booster. Hope that you have minimal side effects. Tackling IKEA is always best before the weekend rush.

3 hours Helena! Bravo on your commitment and hope that the storm doesn't leave too much destruction in its wake.

IWanderedLonely what a great bargain.

Will you be spending your time at home with DS Lemonsandlemonade?

Silkierabbit Yes, DD1 and her DP took a 20% pay cut and spent most of 2020 on the ground. Luckily things picked up last year and they are both flying as frequently as at pre covid levels (her long-haul, him short-haul). Scotland is a beautiful country. So glad that you are enjoying the scenery despite the weather. Wonderful pictures of the castle and equally wonderful that your DS laughed. Don't strain too much with the swimming and have fun at the zoo.

Sunbird24 I feel for you and the timing of the email. Hope that you manage to get it resolved.

Thinking of you today Sue.

In mundane news I shall be heading out to the shops this afternoon to buy a protractor and some emery boards.

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/02/2022 11:09

@Makiwa yeah will be which will be nice the house needs tidying but that can wait.

HiDay · 18/02/2022 11:30

Just back from a breast screening appointment.

Champagneforeveryone · 18/02/2022 13:39

These things never seem to stop do they hiday, as a young girl I had no idea so much of being a woman would involve medical professionals poking and prodding me. I had a routine smear test last week and got the all clear yesterday which was a relief.

Or whole house is actually rocking in the wind. Admittedly we are perched on top of a hill and are very exposed, but we are slightly in awe of the sheer power of it. It actually woke me from my post night shift nap which is a feat in itself Grin

MissConductUS · 18/02/2022 13:59

Welcome, @Bigfishlittlepuddle and @HiDay, and thanks for sharing your suitably mundane news. Bigfish, are you preparing your home for sale? Hiday, I've had an annual mammogram since I was forty, which was a fair few years ago. Smile

Sunbird, in my experience recalling emails is rarely fully successful. Perhaps ask your boss to send out the revised document when he's completely sure it's final?

Champagne, there is a whole museum in NYC devoted to the Intrepid. Intrepid Museum I've been with the kids and it was very impressive.

Sue, you are in my thoughts today too.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/02/2022 15:17

Silkie I am glad the weather is slightly less bad than forcast (forcasted?).
DD and I managed to be out when it did not rain or storm. The booster went fine. The doctor (we got talking) meant that that there is emerging evidence that a high percentage of reported side effects is psychosomatic in origin - fear and media fuelled. There will be Phd's for some.
I bought a Kallax insert and wanted the thing to raise my monitor, but it was out.

HelenaJustina · 18/02/2022 16:16

Champagne that sounds terrifying. We can hear the tiles lifting and have lost part of the ridge line on the garage. Half the village is without power as a tree has brought down a live line 5 miles away. And I’ve already had an email from the insurers asking me to inspect my site and lodge claims for school as soon as possible!

MissConductUS · 18/02/2022 16:31

meant that that there is emerging evidence that a high percentage of reported side effects is psychosomatic in origin

True. In the clinical trials, almost as many placebo recipients reported side effects as subjects who received the actual vaccine.

It's my husbands birthday tomorrow and I have hidden the lovely cards I bought from DD and me and now I can't remember where. Will have to brave the wind and go out and get more.

I can identify with this! I usually try to retrace my steps and see if that jogs my memory . Hope the weather improves for you all.. especially you Silkie, it's meant to be unsettled here all weekend. DP and DS are off to Liverpool for a match tomorrow and I hope the weather will be ok for them.
upinaballoon · 18/02/2022 21:45

Came home from town early this afternoon and there were several smallish branches on the road. Is that dull enough? I can still hear the wind blustering outside. Nice to be warm in here.

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/02/2022 22:23

Looks like a good trip Silkie despite the weather.

DH has driven me round the bend today. He has complained about all of the following today - tooth ache, back ache pain in his leg and being tired. He has almost double the sleep I do this will change as I’m at end of tether - we have to decide the house jobs more equally.

On the up side DS played so well today. Only crying when tired or hungry.

upaladderagain · 18/02/2022 22:56

Braved the storm and walked a mile to get my nails done.

MissConductUS · 19/02/2022 09:57

Happy Caturday one and all!

Nancy, this has happened to me too. I now "hide" all cards and gifts in the same place in my closet.

Welcome, @upinaballoon, that was indeed suitably dull. We had a storm here (New York) yesterday with 60 MHP winds and that brought branches down here too. It's supposed to be similarly windy today.

Welcome, @upaladderagain and thanks for sharing your news. What color did you pick?

Lemons, sorry your DH was being a grump. Does he have form for that?

On 2 January DH went online and renewed the registration for the car DS takes to uni and was optimistic that it would arrive before he had to leave two weeks later. It came yesterday. Smile I think DS will be back for spring break before the old one expires, so we'll put it on then.

OP posts:
Lemonsandlemonade · 19/02/2022 10:16

@MissConductUS not particularly! Just when he is ‘ill’ boy do I know about it! He is like a bear with a sore head.

Car registration miss? Is this like car insurance or car tax or something totally different?

Nothing planned here. May go and see DM but DS asleep on me at moment so am enjoying some tv and chilling for a bit.

upaladderagain · 19/02/2022 10:40

Thank you for asking Miss, it's sparkly rose gold. Love a bit of sparkle.
In today's news, I'm wearing a new pair of warm tights, and so far they haven't crept downwards.

MissConductUS · 19/02/2022 10:44

Lemons, it's a fee of $130 we pay to the state of New York every two years, so it's like a tax. You get a sticker that goes in the front windscreen with the expiration date and you can be fined if the sticker is expired.

Some men do not handle minor illnesses well. Fortunately for me, DH is pretty stoic and not one to complain.

I'm up early so I'll do some time on the stationary bike and go shopping later.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/02/2022 10:51

upaladder That is lucky - for me tight's legs are always too short.

We are trying to find out how my DB home area fared - there were 3 stormfloods in the last three days.

I shreddered DMil old paperwork, but kept stuff for the family archive (her first payslip, the opening of her bank account - all beautifully handwritten, her clearence of nazi involvement all over the age of 16 had to go through etc.)
