How lovely prok, I love things like that which are full of history but meaningless to most other people.

It is raining here. The wind has dropped a lot so the rain is diagonal rather than horizontal!

DH has a new app to remind him about things he has to do as his memory is appalling. Unfortunately our phones are linked so I have also received multiple notifications about DS's work shirt (which needs ironing), DH's gun licence (which needs finding), DH's van (which needs filling up) and a rather plaintive request from our Brita filter to change its cartridge.

I must show DH how to end these reminders Grin

In dull news, I’ve been to school and the site is undamaged. There was a lot of disruption locally which proved we made the safe decision by closing. I’m now vacuuming the house while DH takes DC4 up to the ponies (in the rain)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/02/2022 11:55

DH is cooking - vegetable fry and rice.
The two revision books for DS have arrived, now for a revision schedule (Yay!)

Nydj · 19/02/2022 13:56

I am glad to have been on my walk before it tipped down here. Now sitting on sofa on my phone while DH watches TV in the same room and DS hides from us in his room.

upaladderagain · 19/02/2022 17:21

I'm afraid this is quite exciting for me: the tights are still up!! This has literally never happened before. Putting anything round my middle is like tying string round a beach ball - constantly sliding down.
So I've ordered 4 more pairs.

Had Scottish breakfast then drove through snowy hills to Lake District and staying next to Beatrix potters cottage in a lovely small old pub, went to Beatrix potters cottage and just had candlelight dinner here.

Missed a load here cos our power was out yesterday between 11am and 8.30pm. Thank you Storm Eunice.
Our village was badly affected and the power to our neighbours either side went at 12 ish yesterday and has only just come on in the last half hour. 30 ish hours with no power Shock WiFi was gone too. It’s been a fun couple of days.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/02/2022 20:11

Silkie How lovely.
If I can believe the biographical infos about Beatrix Potter, she had a very "strange" mother.

DH is working on an edition and his partner has absolutely no idea on how to work 'ms word' - he has to undo her fromatting and is suffering Smile.

Lemonsandlemonade · 19/02/2022 20:59

Prok I love looking at historical family things.

Silkies the pictures look beautiful I love the lakes especially in winter when there are less people.

Nothing eventful or indeed uneventful here. Watched Saturday Night Take Away which is light entertainment.

Silkierabbit · 19/02/2022 21:15

Thanks Prok and Lemons I do not know about her mother, from a very wealthy family I would say and they said her mother was very talented at piano but Beatrix was not and the piano there was more for show or her mother to play. She was clearly very talented at many things including academic papers which she had to send in as a man. Very beautiful here. The photos beloe are 1 Scottish borders, 1 lakes and view from our bedroom window here. This is Beatrix's cottage piano and the restaurant here.

Lovely photos, Silkie. The weather looks chilly and the Forth Bridge is clearly not for the faint hearted.

We had a snow squall here last night, a fast moving band of snow and gale force wind, with snow blowing sideways. I re-taped the window AC units with fresh duct tape a few days ago, just in time as it turned out.

DD4 walked to Trader Joes this afternoon and returned with a vow never to go there again on foot if it's more than a few degrees below freezing.

Silkierabbit · 20/02/2022 08:41

Thanks Math. Its 11C here today, mostly bern around 3C to 5C so cold but not too bad. Sounds very wintery by you. We just have the winds starting here again but 40mph here so not too bad. Breakfast now then off back home.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/02/2022 09:30

I just tried if a set of IVAR shelves fits next to my work desk - it doesn't by a few cm. You can't find out by measuring because of an irregularily sloping wall, so you take all the books out, try the position and than move it back and fill it again. Grrr.

Sunbird24 · 20/02/2022 12:52

I saw my first blooming daffodils of the year yesterday, and today my amaryllis buds are opening Daffodil

HildaTablet · 20/02/2022 13:17

Lovely pics, Silkie. We once stayed not too far from there, and have also done the apartment at Ruskin’s house, Brantwood, overlooking Coniston - highly recommended if anyone ever wants somewhere to self-cater. It had the best-equipped kitchen I’ve ever seen.

We were due to do a 200-mile motorway journey today and decided to postpone it because the weather is still awful - very windy and pelting rain. Not convinced tomorrow will be much better, tbh. Despite the shocking weather we have our first daffodil and crocuses out in the garden, plus loads of snowdrops.

Lemonsandlemonade · 20/02/2022 13:37

Sunbirds I too saw first daffodils of season!!

Weather horrific took DS swimming which he loved but pool extremely busy.

Am shattered now

Nydj · 20/02/2022 15:53

Snowdrop and holiday photos are lovely.

We had pancakes for brunch today - crepes for DS, thick, American style ones for DH and mix of the two for me. I think I may have reached adulthood at long last as I had one with savoury filling before going for the lemon juice and sugar ones.

HelenaJustina · 20/02/2022 18:06

I did another practice hike with 2DC this morning, dreadful conditions underfoot which made the 10k feel more like 15. The weather has got even worse again now, much more rain in the storm this time. So I’ve got a cinnamon and vanilla loaf cake in the oven, as there is nothing as nice as the smell of hot cinnamon wafting through the house. I used to bake a lot and enjoyed it, but stopped as work /COVID got busier and the DC took over baking duties, I’d like to pick it back up again. Not least because I’m a bit more adventurous than they are when it comes to recipe selection.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/02/2022 18:28

DH moans because of the proofs he has to read - deadline 28.02.2022 - he suffers greatly.
DD moans because she is practicing drawing hair and hair is difficult.
DS moans because he just failed a mission in his game.
GrinGrin

Lemonsandlemonade · 20/02/2022 19:33

Weather here is horrific lots of localised flooding boat been sent out to rescue people.

HelenaJustina · 20/02/2022 19:45

Hope you stay safe Lemons our village floods but ‘only’ the roads in/out not the properties it’s almost like people in olden days knew not to build on flood plains

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 20/02/2022 19:59

After Fridays electricity fun, today the wind has blown the garden fences down. Fun for DH and our neighbour there 🙄

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/02/2022 20:18

DB from Hamburg reports flooding but was more concerned for the people in his care, a lot of them are of the right age to remember the big flood and the noises were disquieting for them.

Lots of trees down here and a record high in emergency calls.

Silkierabbit · 20/02/2022 20:32

Back home after lovely breakfast at Tower Bank Arms in Lake District. Had apple and elderflower juice, coffee, granary bread with homemade strawberry jam and lovely individual farm butters, fresh pink grapefruit then smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. DH had their eggs benedict as his final course. Windy and wet on way home but got here and rabbit and cat were asleep and silkie started chatting to us.

Then silkiecat later realised DH was here and she had 4 days work to give him. DD also left 4 days washing up. The floors were looking rather manky too so I cleaned those and had a bath.

We have c 40mph winds here so mainly just fences that have gone. The local police have put a warning about winds on the village facebook today with a map of the South West and wind speeds there, we are nowhere near the South West so its entertaining some villagers.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 20/02/2022 20:38

It has just struck me that my last two posts are hardly in keeping with the spirit of the thread so to restore the balance….DH just made me a cup of tea and I had bara brith with it.
Lemons help me out with closest translation? A type of boiled cake I think is closest description.
