Is this a worm in my fish fillet?

Disclaimer: I have a phobia of worms and similar creatures, so am freaking out to a ridiculous degree!

Is this a worm? Fish don't have sinews or ligaments, do they? It came out all in one piece and is quite tough and shiny

I am NEVER eating fish again

Is this a worm in my fish fillet?

givemepiece · 03/02/2022 22:11

Oh cripes

What fish? And from where pls? Sad

LovejoysVase · 03/02/2022 22:12

Do you really want to know?

TheSpottedZebra · 03/02/2022 22:12

Er, never Google cod worms Sad

Could it not be flexible bone? Cartilage?

Scoot75 · 03/02/2022 22:13

Fish is full of little worms. I don't know why you're surprised, OP.

sadpapercourtesan · 03/02/2022 22:14

It's a basa fillet from Tesco - Young's Gastro range

I'm definitely NOT googling anything that might have pictures, I'm already on the verge of vomiting.

That's why I asked on here first Blush

SadSad I love a basa fillet

TheSpottedZebra · 03/02/2022 22:18

Fish is quite wormy really.

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/02/2022 22:19

Wild fish does have worms often. Farmed not usually,

Throw it in the bin and cast it from your mind.

AnotherMansCause · 03/02/2022 22:19

More likely to be a bone TBH.

Sharrowgirl · 03/02/2022 22:20

Looks like part of the fish to me. They always have those bits, I assumed they were veins or something

PossiblyDreaming · 03/02/2022 22:20

Fish is full of worms, particularly cod and hake. It’s odd to eat fish if you’re terrified of worms.

holdyourheadupyousillygirl · 03/02/2022 22:20

Is there the tiniest, outside chance you had sugar snap peas as a side?

Yrs ago my dd2yrs had what we thought was evidence of worms until the bemused GP asked about her preferred veg ..:
Never been so relieved in my whole life!
Never bought sugar snaps since!

PossiblyDreaming · 03/02/2022 22:20

@Luredbyapomegranate farmed fish has fleas instead. I think I’d prefer the worms.

I have honestly never come across one before! I will probably stop eating fish now, though. Not worth it Sad

As long as it was thoroughly cooked op it won't do you any harm... I know that's not massively helpful though

AnotherMansCause · 03/02/2022 22:22

And actually I’m also interested - you’ll eat fish but not a different animal? Why? Do you eat prawns, I always think they look like insects.

sadpapercourtesan · 03/02/2022 22:22

No, I don't eat prawns because they look like insects Grin

It's irrational, I know. That's phobias for you.

PossiblyDreaming · 03/02/2022 22:23

Just seen that it’s basa fish - most bottom feeders such as catfish are very likely to have worms. They won’t do you any harm though.

AnotherMansCause · 03/02/2022 22:23

Lots of other animals get parasites too you know OP. And lots of bugs on your salad & vegetables unless you obsessively wash everything before you eat it.

Justwingingit2005 · 03/02/2022 22:23

I've heard of tape, thread and earthworms but NEVER fish worms..... off to Google.... and throw the fish fingers away

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 03/02/2022 22:24

My friends mum used to work de-worming cod. I can’t bring myself to eat it now.

Scoot75 · 03/02/2022 22:25

I eat a plant-based diet these days. I've seen too many documentaries on what's in our food. I stopped drinking milk when I discovered it was full of puss. Then a while later after the horsemeat scandal, I stopped eating meat.

I like to eat clean food and feel so much better for it.

NutCheeseBag · 03/02/2022 22:25

I’ve found worms in fish several times. It’s unpleasant, but at least you don’t break your teeth on them like you do with the lead shot in game.

AnotherMansCause · 03/02/2022 22:26

Cows are terrible for picking up worms & other parasites, plus other infections. As are many pastured animals TBH. Partly why it’s so common for them to be constantly on antibiotics etc. Otherwise they grow really slowly. Cows are naturally scraggy thin things with very little meat on them.
