Is this a worm in my fish fillet?

Disclaimer: I have a phobia of worms and similar creatures, so am freaking out to a ridiculous degree!

Is this a worm? Fish don't have sinews or ligaments, do they? It came out all in one piece and is quite tough and shiny

I am NEVER eating fish again

Is this a worm in my fish fillet?

Someone I went to school with posted similar on their Facebook once. It was just battered fish from the chippy

Some pus does get through I’m afraid. And some farmers are better than others looking out for it. Tests are done at various stages but some does get through. Yes, I’m vegan, but this gives me zero pleasure to tell you this as it means the poor cows have infection and one of my children drink cows milk.

@Badnightguaranteed

Basa is always full of these . Totally put me off fish forever when I found a basa fillet riddled with them.
Is this true? Basa is my preferred choice of fish!

I remember doing a practical class at university where we looked in raw mackerel fillets for nematodes and kept track of how many were found in fish from each shop. I expect Mumsnetters will clutch at their pearls when I tell you that the worst culprits were the fish monger and higher brow supermarkets. But every fillet had at least a few.

As long as it's properly cooked, it will do you no harm.

EishetChayil · 04/02/2022 10:33

Blerghhhhhhh.

PossiblyDreaming · 04/02/2022 10:39

@TheVolturi all bottom feeders have worms. So cod, haddock, basa (catfish) etc. Apart from salmon (which is full of fleas instead unless it is wild caught) we mostly eat wormy fish in the UK.

Fridafever · 04/02/2022 12:35

Why in the UK specifically? Same everywhere surely?

PossiblyDreaming · 04/02/2022 13:24

@Fridafever I meant the types of fish we tend to eat in the UK are bottom feeders so likely to have worms, not that only UK fish have worms.

Fridafever · 04/02/2022 13:25

Ah yes got you.

Fridafever · 04/02/2022 13:26

What are the less wormy fish eaten elsewhere- not being sarky I promise, I’d like to seek them out!

bumblefeline · 04/02/2022 17:12
@bumblefeline there isn’t pus in milk, any cows with mastitis have their milk dumped.
Thank god for that.

People who lie should be made to drink the thrown away milk.
