Valentine's Day gift hell and heaven this year?

Hello Mumsnetters!

We've got a debate going over here at MNHQ... essentially it's... what's your idea of a Valentine's Day gift from hell and a Valentine's Day gift from heaven?

We'll go first...

Valentine's Day HELL = a meal on the day - nothing worse than a set menu in a restaurant filled with other couples mooning over each other.

Valentine's Day HEAVEN = massage, facial, spa day... anything! I want to be shut in a room with pinkly plonky music and no sign of a laptop or phone anywhere near me.

We can't wait to hear yours.....

@CanofCant

Why isn't your text box blue?
My thoughts exactly.

I wonder what you're really up to. Deadline looming is it?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/02/2022 10:53

Anything spa-day would be my hell.

Heaven, staying at home with a nice dinner I haven’t cooked. So given that dh doesn’t cook (he clears up beautifully instead and unloads the dishwasher in the morning) it’ll probably be M&S ready meals.

Silentraindrops · 04/02/2022 10:54

Heaven - the perfect treat would be going to the cinema alone with my favourite snacks followed by coming home to a relaxing evening with fancy hot chocolate, a cosy blanket on the sofa and either a book or some music while I write.

Hell - being in a relationship and having to “do” Valentine’s Day 🤣

We don't celebrate Valentine's Day, never have.

SleepingStandingUp · 04/02/2022 11:10

Heaven: Childcare where someone takes them our the house. Aka Sex without having half an ear on a kid waking up /a voucher for the theatre and dinner just me

Hell: Family meal out with the kids. They're just the wrong age for relaxed eating out experiences / perfume, lingerie etc

Reported to ask that question. It strikes me as odd too.
MayEye · 04/02/2022 11:13

God the miseries are out in force on this thread! And I don’t celebrate valentines really but I know some people do and each to their own.

timestheyarechanging · 04/02/2022 11:16

Hell - cuddly toy, meal out on the day, one of those huge soppy cards.
Heaven - spa day and hotel stay at the coast. Agent Provocateur lingerie, dinner cooked for me with champagne!

onedayoranother · 04/02/2022 11:24

But a spa day sounds like a solo day - not quite in the spirit!
I lovely box of chocolates, good wine and a delicious meal cooked by my late husband.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 04/02/2022 11:25

Valentines heaven for me would be a few hours to myself; fire lit, feet up, good book and a huge mug of my favourite tea and no chores needing done! I would also love someone else to sort dinner and make something that I actually really like for a change.

Hell would be having to get dressed up and go out for a meal. Or new underwear (unless it's not wired and up-to-your-armpit knickers.)

onedayoranother · 04/02/2022 11:25

Oh the hell: chocolates I don't like, an argument.

Ponoka7 · 04/02/2022 11:29

Hell, going out on the night, teddy's, stuff for the sake of it, things I'd buy myself.

Heaven, bottle of something we don't drink regularly, Southern Comfort etc. A bunch of tulips would be welcome. A bottle of seasonal spring colour Nails Inc/OPI nail varnish. My best present was a new goldfish.

RedRec · 04/02/2022 11:32

Oh my God, the peak sneering on here about people who actually enjoy hearts and flowers and a meal out on Valentine's Day.

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/02/2022 11:33

Lazy journo pretending to be MNHQ?

Pembertonrd · 04/02/2022 11:35

What is it with MN and Spa days.
My idea of complete hell.

Best valentines for me would be a night in with a bottle of wine and a substantial cheese board.
A funny film and a foot massage from dh.

BobHadBitchTits · 04/02/2022 11:41

Heaven - a day to myself

Hell - anything else that was designee purposely for this bullshit day.

iklboo · 04/02/2022 11:45

I've reported & MNHQ has confirmed this is genuinely them.

iklboo · 04/02/2022 11:47

It's not sneering. It's personal preference.

Goldenbear · 04/02/2022 11:49

Heaven- a card drawn by my DH (he's an Architect and good at drawing) as the scenes/places he sketches mean something to us. Love flowers and jewellery that is well designed. A night out preferably a hotel somewhere exciting and fun akin to our first trips away in our 20s.

Hell- not marking Valentine's day as I would find that uncaring and hurtful.

WalkingDownTheOnlyRoad · 04/02/2022 11:49

@GrandDuchessRomanov

I see MNHQ has let the work experiencers loose again.
😂 everyone has got to start somewhere.

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day either. My idea of Valentine’s hell would be a naff card and having to celebrate a weird Unknown Saint day. A usual routine day would be my idea of Valentine’s heaven. Smile

Goldenbear · 04/02/2022 11:50

Hell on a practical level would be underwear but he would never get me that.

Meh- to each their own. I don’t celebrate but if someone else enjoys doing something to celebrate the day then good on them.

Really? It's so badly written. I'm disappointed tbh.
Wilkolampshade · 04/02/2022 11:59

Hell: Spa day.
Heaven: Earth shattering, fantastic, life affirming sex and a looooong cuddle afterwards. Then tea.

Yes I see what you mean, iklboo. I guess I feel an undercurrent on threads like this that "it's only plebs who do things like this".
