Please tell me I'm not the only one whose hayfever has started already?

Swollen itchy eyes since yesterday. Couldn't figure out why. Then I realised it's 1st Feb today. Last year my hayfever started on 11 Feb. Argh.

At least it means Spring is on the way.

Am I the only person to get hayfever so early?

(Yes it's definitely hayfever. No it's not covid.)

A few years ago I also got hay-fever in mid February. The start of hay-fever for me varies year to year, depending on what plants/crops are growing! You have my sympathies!

BenjiMcSchmenzie · 01/02/2022 18:51

You're not the only one. I've had itchy eyes for a few days too.

Mine started mid-Feb last year but ironically I had Covid at the same time, and couldn't work out which symptoms were which for a few days ...

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 01/02/2022 18:52

I noticed the catkins starting on a hazel tree the other day which means the start of hay fever won't be far off for me.

It feels ridiculous because so many people see it as a summer thing.

Mine started a week ago. My poor DD's started 3 weeks ago Shock

ComDummings · 01/02/2022 18:54

It must be specific pollen, I get hayfever but more into late spring. Best stock up on antihistamines soon!

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 01/02/2022 18:54

DH mowed the lawn this morning.
I've added tissues and antihistamines to the shopping list.🤧

MerryPoppings · 01/02/2022 19:03

I think willow trees are a big trigger for me. We moved house a few years ago and the neighbours have a row of willows. My hayfever got a lot worse after we moved.

Anyway, glad I'm not the only one as most people look at me like I'm crazy when I say I have hayfever in February!

DS is on immunotherapy as his hay fever and allergies are crippling, and he’s been bad for 3 weeks already. Really doesn’t help that there’s a Hazel tree with catkins outside his window. We can’t swap his room yet

Plump82 · 01/02/2022 19:07

Mine started a week or so ago.

Magpiecomplex · 01/02/2022 19:09

Mine started recently too but the penny only dropped when I saw this thread! Off to make sure I have plenty of cetirizine in stock.

userxx · 01/02/2022 19:11

Yup, it arrived with force on Friday evening whilst sat outside a bar, I've been sniffing and blowing my nose ever since. Must remember to stock up on anti histamines.

TheCanyon · 01/02/2022 19:11

Yup, had it early last February too which was very unusual for me, usually april. I have to say it took me a while to realise what was going on, thought my head was just buggered Grin

I don't think all this bloody wind is helping matters though

Dreamstate · 01/02/2022 19:14

Omg literally is me! On Sunday suddenly out of nowhere mg left eye start itching in like oh hmmm must be hayfever only did a tiny rub and suddenly my eye swelled up! Even the tissue in my eye did.

That has never ever happened to me before I thought my whole eye would close up from the swelling. I went to a&e as I thought something must have got in like a tiny fly i was so worried luckily no damage or anything inside. Even the doctor was surprised.

I'm last yr my hayfever was super bad so sensitive even ope ing a window would cause sneezing and itchy eyes.

Never ever before has it been this bad.

I wonder if lockdowns has had an impact on my immune system coping as ifs not exposed to it as much since we are working from home so much we are less out and about.

RosieRainbow1986 · 01/02/2022 19:25

Mine has started too! It tends to be worse in the autumn with me than the summer (still not great mind when the lawns have just been done) but also started again last week!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 01/02/2022 19:26

Mine always starts in February. I always forget this and am then taken by surprise when my eyeballs explode.

PunsDontKillPeople · 01/02/2022 19:28

OMG me too! My eyes are the worst they've been for years Hmm It starts every evening about 6.30-7, first my eyes itch then I start coughing uncontrollably. Never had it this bad so early before!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/02/2022 19:32

Mine used to start early when I lived in London, some years we would have a very mild December/January and the hazel trees would burst out the catkins. Mid-Feb is the usual time for me but I suspect that it has already started as I have a sore throat, sniffly nose and itchy ears.

APJ1 · 01/02/2022 19:34

It hasn't started for me yet but it did start in February last year. I think from around April 2020 to February 2021, I only had Jan' 21 off!

SaskiaRembrandt · 01/02/2022 19:50

Mine started yesterday; I bought some antihistamines on the way home tonight. They'll be a daily part of life until August.

OrangeBlossom28 · 01/02/2022 19:53

Yes! I've started with the antihistamine spray already. My eyes have been very watery which I've put down to the remnants of a cold. Mentioned it to DH who thought I was a bit mad putting it down to hayfever so early but I was right!

Vanillaradio · 01/02/2022 20:00

Yes seems to be starting up today, I've been sneezing a lot with prickly eyes. Used to pretty much always start beginning of March, last year was mid February so getting earlier and earlier. Mine is always triggered by tree pollen.

AlexaWhatsMyUsername · 01/02/2022 20:38

Mine is just starting up too. Usually in full swing by mid-Feb and pretty sure it’s tree pollen. Placed my online order today for
Antihistamine tablets, antihistamine nasal spray and 2% anti-allergics eye drops.

If you type Martin Lewis Hayfever into Google the link takes you to the cheap deals. I’ve got all I need for the season for less than £20

foxgoosefinch · 01/02/2022 20:39

Yes, have sneezed a few times the lat few days, and only just realised earlier today that it was hayfever incoming very early!

It’s been starting earlier and earlier for me the past few years - I assume the mild winters/climate change are bringing the tree pollens forward. Last year it was the third week in February- this year the first! It’s been unusually warm today.
