How much do you pay for a loaf of bread?

From the supermarket? Do any of you buy the ones that are 36p or 49p...the own brand loaf...is it any good? We pay around 99p for kingsmill 50/50. Sometimes buy the own brand or even the 36p one (once to try it out)...

I buy Hovis (medium white & thick wholemeal).
Occasionally buy the cheap white and like them just as much as Hovis tbh.
Don't like the cheaper wholemeal ones though as they either taste dry or like perfumeConfused

Herja · 29/01/2022 10:38

55p I think, from aldi. Could be 49p.

Either way, I find all the bagged sliced bread to be of similar (equally bad tbh) quality, so go with what's cheap. I do avaoid the 30odd pence ones as I find they tend to be stale/dry before the bag is even opened. Good bread is not in my budget and making it costs at least double the price of cheap bread and goes stale too fast, even if it is delicious.

€2.50. Not in the U.K.

£1.55 for Jackson’s bread. I always buy good bread unless I’m planning on bacon sandwiches in which case the cheaper white bread is king.

OhWhyNot · 29/01/2022 10:47

Depends just bough a bloomer from Aldi I think about 50p it’s nice

Sliced Wholemeal I find shops own as good as Hovis.

I like sainsbury organic wholemeal but it’s a heavy bread.

Co op fresh bread is the best of the supermarkets

Hauntingnotespizzicatostrings · 29/01/2022 10:48

About a £1. I buy a seeded loaf.

TheCanyon · 29/01/2022 10:49

£1.25 for Warburtons farmhouse. Find the cheaper ones taste weird and make shit toast.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/01/2022 10:49

55p for a medium sliced wholemeal loaf from Sainsbury's. DS will also eat the equivalent loaf from Tesco, but not from Morrisons or the Co-op.

User2638483 · 29/01/2022 10:50

Always go for hovis or kings mill 50/50 just out of habit really. Think kingsmill is normally about 90p

EileenGC · 29/01/2022 10:50

€1.50, not in the UK, it’s fresh (thick crust) bread from the bakery.

Sliced sandwich bread isn’t very common here and it costs around €1.20 (if you can find it) so not that much of a difference.

Amrapaali · 29/01/2022 10:52

£1.55 for Tesco sourdough. Toasts like a dream and lasts longer. With the cheaper ones I was throwing out nearly half a bag because they were going staler and mouldier much quicker

Player001 · 29/01/2022 10:52

$3.80 AUD

Not bottom shelf and not top shelf. Middle of the road bread.

Hairyfriend · 29/01/2022 10:53

Normally get Morrisons toasty for 55p or the lidl/aldi versions. Very similar to warburtons but cheaper.

FridaRose · 29/01/2022 10:57

$6 (Aus) and it's a bloody joke - just earlier had that conversation with DP that it's flour and yeast.
We decided to switch supermarkets after today.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 29/01/2022 10:57

£1.10 for blue Warburtons but we do occaisonally by the cheaper one from Lidl, think it's around 40p

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 29/01/2022 10:59

About $3.80 AUD for seeded sandwich bread, but today I paid $6 for a small loaf of sour dough. Its bloody nice though.

multivac · 29/01/2022 11:00

We get almost all our bread, including gluten free, for nothing, via Olio.

NalPolishRemover · 29/01/2022 11:00

We mainly buy aldi sliced white loaf & it gets used for toast & aldi version of mccambridges brown bread which we use for open sandwiches etc

Occassionaly buy loveky baguette & rye bread from the artisan baker in town

We eat v v little bread overall though. I buy 1 loaf of each about one a week & always throw out at least a third of each

RosiePosieDozy · 29/01/2022 11:02

I wouldn't like to pay more than a £1 for a standard loaf. We usually get white Hovis for around 99p from Aldi.

user1471481356 · 29/01/2022 11:03

$5 a loaf in australia and that’s relatively cheap, not sourdough or anything, they’re usually $7-9 a loaf. So about £2.50 for a regular load of bread.

Yarnivore · 29/01/2022 11:04

£3.65 a loaf for my most tolerable gluten free bread.

ivegotthisyeah · 29/01/2022 11:04

I always used to buy the warbutons orange toastie bread but the price kept creeping up and tried Tesco own orange packaging toastie bread! Haven't looked back! It's 59p I think tastes the same fresh and thick kids don't notice the difference since I have to buy about three loads a week!
How sad I am excited about bread 🤦🏽‍♀️

toppkatz · 29/01/2022 11:05

I just got in from shopping and bought:

Morrisons own brand white sliced at 59p. I probably won't eat that, but others in the house seem to think it is ok.

Morrisons wheat, spelt and rye cob for £1 which I think might be on offer. I really like that one.

MegaClutterSlut · 29/01/2022 11:05

58p or there abouts for Asdas thick toastie bread

mizzo · 29/01/2022 11:08

I don't buy bread from the supermarket, except the odd baguette from M&S.
I pay £1.75 a loaf from the bakers.
