How much do you pay for a loaf of bread?

From the supermarket? Do any of you buy the ones that are 36p or 49p...the own brand loaf...is it any good? We pay around 99p for kingsmill 50/50. Sometimes buy the own brand or even the 36p one (once to try it out)...

I have a texture issue with a lot of sliced bread so I’ll only eat wholemeal seeded otherwise it’s too mushy for me. I get the deluxe one from Lidl which is 89p and lovely.

White bread is the food of the devil- if we do indulge a Tiger loaf with proper butter (I'm salivating!) £1.20 or Lidl's fresh Sourdough £1.60. Otherwise Aldi multi-seeded is excellent- about £1.

Puffalicious · 29/01/2022 13:30

Oh totally forgot DC3's total favourite in Sainsbury's wholemeal seeded from their bakery. £1 30 and it's absolutely fabulous. Not always near Sainsbury's so buy 3 at a time and freeze it.

The Co-Op Ancient grains seeded loaf. It's about a pound.

I'm really particular about bread and this is one of the best I've found

Aldi do an Ancient Grains for £1. Try it if you're passing, it's very good.

Only homemade sourdough here, not quite sure how much it costs, but once you get the hang of it, easy peasy to make, no bread maker required as can either bake direct in oven or use a cast iron casserole/Dutch oven.

Juanbablo · 29/01/2022 13:38

Usually buy Co-Op own which is about 75p or Aldi seeded which is 89p.

Soubriquet · 29/01/2022 13:38

Sainsbury’s own brand is pretty good.

That’s 55p a loaf

GrendelsGrandma · 29/01/2022 13:39

We're bread snobs, we get through about 2 £3 sourdough loaves from the bakery each week. The kids have granary for about £1.60 a loaf.

A decent loaf tastes much better and fills you up for longer. It still works out as a cheap meal.

MrsKDB · 29/01/2022 13:42

@BigHuff no, SW city.

MulticatHouse · 29/01/2022 13:46

Between €2.50 and €3.80 depending on the brand. Not in UK.
Local bread is cheap enough and very nice but it doesn't stay fresh for long.

whywouldntyou · 29/01/2022 13:48

Make my own using wrights bread mix for £1

True, a decent loaf is much more satisfying! We bake our own sourdough bread, DH does a fantastic ciabatta as well and I make a very good rye/wheat loaf as well as bread rolls. So we’ve got a good repertoire of homemade breads for various needs/occasions/meals. But that’s easy enough for us to do because we’re both at home and we don’t have young children. I still keep a loaf of sliced white, granary or other bread in the freezer so DH can have toast for breakfast on some days or a sandwich for lunch even if we’ve not a freshly baked loaf available.
Svara · 29/01/2022 14:07

Sourdough from Tesco £1.70 if buying from the supermarket. Or £3 from the bakery. It lasts a week, toasting it after a couple of days. DS eats tortillas as well, basic supermarket brand, a packet a week.

AlwaysLatte · 29/01/2022 14:10

I have no idea, I think it's about £1.40 (seedy rye type) but we often make it.

KurtWilde · 29/01/2022 14:12

I pay 45p for a Lidl toastie loaf, it's the nicest white sliced bread there is imo. Their part-baked rolls and baguettes are also lovely, 47p for a pack of 6 rolls or 2 baguettes.

Sprogonthetyne · 29/01/2022 14:19

I usually get the 50p (or there abouts) white loaf from aldi, it's nice enough and gets eaten. I prefer the seaded loaf but the kids won't touch it, and we don't eat enough to have two on the go at the same time.

Nopeihavenoidea · 29/01/2022 14:27

Around £3 to £6 depending on type - not UK. Very nice but goes off quickly.

Amazed how cheap food is in the UK. However I now don’t like the prepackaged white bread you get in the UK - seems to have so many additives

Fallulah · 29/01/2022 14:41

Lidl malted bloomer 99p. I think I’m actually addicted to it.

ouch321 · 29/01/2022 14:48

£1.20 for Hovis or Warburtons sliced
Morrisons London

MondeoFan · 29/01/2022 14:48

Get my bread in aldi but really miss bread from the bakery in my village. It's gorgeous but goes stale after 2 days.

Roystonv · 29/01/2022 14:53

£1.35 Aldi rye bread. It is my treat, I like a solid piece of toast but agree supermarket white for a bacon sandwich!

MintyGreenDream · 29/01/2022 14:56

95p Kingsmill 50/50

MilduraS · 29/01/2022 15:23

I usually make bread in my bread maker these days but we used to regularly buy the sliced multi seed loaf in Sainsburys bakery section. Strangely it lasted longer than most processed loaves. The big 800g one is £1.40.

SartresSoul · 29/01/2022 15:45

75p, seeded loaf in aldi (just googled).
