How much do you pay for a loaf of bread?

From the supermarket? Do any of you buy the ones that are 36p or 49p...the own brand loaf...is it any good? We pay around 99p for kingsmill 50/50. Sometimes buy the own brand or even the 36p one (once to try it out)...

For me I get a £2.60 loaf of Genius toast gluten free,
For the family I get a £1.60 for a Jones Village bakery slow dough loaf.

Isonthecase · 29/01/2022 11:26

M+s do a really nice thick slices bread for under a pound, I pop in especially for it. Otherwise it's probably double that.

Ninkanink · 29/01/2022 11:29

It depends. I used to do most of my grocery shopping between ALDI and M&S/Waitrose, so things could be quite a bit more expensive if I bought from the higher end. However now I buy mostly from ALDI, supplemented by Morrison’s, and farm shop for meat/eggs. Bread is usually around 50p to £1, and I do usually buy the own brand instead of branded for sliced white/toastie/granary. Once in a while I’ll buy an artisanal loaf (usually we bake our own, though) but I never pay more than £2 for that.

£1.85 for Warburtons seeded.

SomethingSuss · 29/01/2022 11:42

£1.39 for a Warburtons toastie loaf. Don't care much for Hovis or Kingsmill.

BoodleBug51 · 29/01/2022 11:45

Wholemeal sliced around £2 per loaf
Vogel seeded the same
Bertinet sourdough is around £4.

hughfurrywit · 29/01/2022 11:47

Got a WR medium sliced wholemeal for 55p today with a yellow sticker (straight in freezer and when we are in our new house which has lots of freezers, I will definitely be making use of the reduced section!) then 75p in M&S for a thick sliced white, not reduced. WR equivalent is £1.10.

AfterSchoolWorry · 29/01/2022 11:48

@FartNRoses

€2.50. Not in the U.K.
I know, same €2.50+ for a decent loaf !!

36p !!!

I paid €3.99 for four small gluten free wraps the other day!

The cost of living in the UK is amazing.

CeleriacOfTheNight · 29/01/2022 11:48

55p because I don't eat it Grin

That's for bog standard wholemeal loaf. If we want better bread, I make it.

sunflower198 · 29/01/2022 11:49

Tesco Toastie, it's 59p a loaf. A favourite in our house!

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 29/01/2022 11:51

65p for own-brand wholewheat.
If the shop is out, or the dates are bad, 95p for 50:50 branded (which i do prefer).
Can't spend any more on bread than that.

WhiteJellycat · 29/01/2022 11:52

I buy the multi seeded and thick white toastie from Aldi. Think they are around 50-80p but if any is discounted I get those for 39p. It still lasts a week. There no difference between a branded or the own brand bread.

nannybeach · 29/01/2022 11:52

malted craft bloomer,99p Lidl. Big thick slices, goes in the freezer, lasts us 2 weeks. Local Tesco express want £1.50 for a branded horrible tasteless white sliced

Tlollj · 29/01/2022 11:52

£1.65 hovis seeded one.

FluffyBooBoo · 29/01/2022 11:52

I usually pay 10p. It could be own brand, it could be Warburtons. They always have reduced price bread, so I see no point in paying more.

Sorry, that doesn't really help. But the own brand stuff is fine.

Croissantly · 29/01/2022 11:54

55p for sainsburys own brand, imo its just as nice as other more expensive loaves.

Quamora · 29/01/2022 11:55

I shop mostly at Aldi or Tesco
Medium white sliced is 47p in Aldi or 59p in Tesco. That’s our everyday bread plus a granary type loaf for me (around £1). The cheapest loaf (30 Something p) is weirdly dry yet greasy from both supermarkets so don’t buy that.

captainmajor · 29/01/2022 12:05

I like the cheap own Brand from Aldi or tesco for toasted sandwiches but buy an artisan loaf from the local bakery for soup or doorsteps crab sandwich or cheese on toast , other than that we don't really use bread

4longweeks · 29/01/2022 12:19

Buy mahoosive bags of flour and make loaves in the bread maker. Never worked out exactly how much they cost but cheaper than shop bought. Trouble is it's too nice so temptation to scoff it before it's even cold!

Firesidefox · 29/01/2022 12:22

Jackson's seeded bread is about £1.50 and I love it
Lidl seeded bread is 65p and just as good IMO

I also like the odd sourdough from little bakeries when I make soup

dementedpixie · 29/01/2022 12:22

Hovis seed sensations about £1.60

MrsTimRiggins · 29/01/2022 12:25

Had to check as I had absolutely no idea, I’d be deemed terribly out of touch were I a politician or some such. 89p for a seeded loaf and 49p for a white ‘toastie’ loaf. Lidl.

SuPerDoPer · 29/01/2022 12:25

@Yarnivore

£3.65 a loaf for my most tolerable gluten free bread.
Same here. Its a flipping disgrace.
Marmite27 · 29/01/2022 12:26

99p for Hovis best of both.

Used to be kingsmill 50/50 but Aldi stopped stocking it in favour of Hovis.

boobot1 · 29/01/2022 12:27

Warburtons seeded loaf is the favorite in this house. 90p for the small loaf
