I never realised my milk drinking habits were strange! Are yours?

Partly inspired from another thread where someone said that only people over forty drink cow's milk.

I am close to 40 at 37, but I only drink semi-skimmed cows milk and have done for years. I'll drink almond or soya if a friend or family provides it, obviously, but I also see it as knowingly looking at the more expensive price. Any one else?!

Disclaimer: I know I don't drink as much milk as other people anyway, so no judgement here just curiosity!

Are there any other items that people under or over a certain age are probably not having?

Huh?

No. Nonsense

purpleme12 · 27/01/2022 20:49

Eh? I don't understand how this is strange?

BakedTattie · 27/01/2022 20:49

I’m 34 and have never even tasted a dairy milk substitute. Always proper cows milk. Semi skimmed

That's funny, I only started drinking cow's milk at 40. Previously only drank alternatives for about ten years. I changed back to cow's milk because of the cost and realizing that most alternatives are mostly water and sugar

Ducksurprise · 27/01/2022 20:50

The vast majority of people i know, both over and under 40, drink cows milk, despite those that refuse to listen, almond and rice/soya etc still have a negative effect on the environment.

MaizeAmaze · 27/01/2022 20:51

Judging from the shelf space dedicated to dairy milks vs non dairy milks, I'd say most people have dairy milk of some form.

BurntToastAgain · 27/01/2022 20:51

I don’t drink any milk or any description. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Divebar2021 · 27/01/2022 20:52

I love an aged based generalisation.

Thatsplentyjack · 27/01/2022 20:52

Well that poster should meet my ds1 who's 13. He drink cows milk like its going out of fashion. What a weird thing for them to say.

All milk substitutes are rank.

StarlingsAreAmazing · 27/01/2022 20:55

Knowing that the milk was destined for the calf, which will be slaughtered instead,is sad enough before realising a farmer has to stick their arm up the cows arse to impregnate her over and over is enough to put me off. (Can't imagine it's all too pleasant for the farmer either)

KurtWilde · 27/01/2022 20:55

What a sweeping generalisation! We all drink semi skimmed cows milk on a regular basis in this house, always have done regardless of age. Only DS drinks a substitute because he's vegan - and yeah it is rank.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/01/2022 20:56

Judging by the amount of milk I buy, and how little I personally consume... my children are definitely drinking cows milk and unless they are somehow older than me they are definitely under 40.

Phrenologistsfinger · 27/01/2022 20:57

I am 40 and haven’t had cow’s milk for ten years (vegan) but I never ever drank it as a beverage, always found it revolting tbh. Especially that warm smelly stuff they gave out at school, ugh, I always gave it away.

Onatree · 27/01/2022 20:58

Sometimes I just don’t know what people on Mumsnet are on about. Drink what the fuck you want. 🤷‍♀️

Hellocatshome · 27/01/2022 21:00

My son is 11 and drinks at least a pint of cows milk a day, ai dont think he's ever tried a dairy free milk. I cant stand milk so don't drink cows or any other kind.

XenoBitch · 27/01/2022 21:01

Am early 40s.I have it in tea, and on cereal.

coronabeer · 27/01/2022 21:02

As a previous poster said, given the difference in relative space allocated to cows milk versus non-dairy alternatives, it's hardly "unusual" to be drinking cows milk.

That's despite the environmental cost: cows milk uses more land and water than any alternatives and creates more emissions.

I like oat milk.

blyn72 · 27/01/2022 21:03

I drink a far bit of organic semi skimmed cow's milk on most days. I like it. I didn't know it was unusual!

LaPufalina · 27/01/2022 21:06

I went off it after breastfeeding Grin don't drink any substitutes either though unless you count squash or pop. I'm over 40! My DH is considerably younger (32) and often drinks two pints a day. He burns a lot of calories and it's cheap fuel. Wish he'd just borrow my fat and burn it off instead Blush

MrsAvocet · 27/01/2022 21:07

I am the only person in our house who has milk at all, and I only put it in tea. A pint lasts me over a week, or until it goes off.
I don't think I have ever drunk a glass of milk on its own in my life and my children definitely haven't, as it never occurred to me to offer it. Apparently I'm odd, but I didn't realise thst until relatively recently. (And I am well over 40!)

RobinPenguins · 27/01/2022 21:08

I have milk in tea, coffee and cereal. I’ve never knowingly drunk oat, soy, almond, coconut milk.

RobinPenguins · 27/01/2022 21:08

Oh! Am mid 30s.

Crowdfundingforcake · 27/01/2022 21:10

Tried three different 'alternative' milks (oat, soy, almond) and they were all absolutely foul, so cow milk it is.

itwasntaparty · 27/01/2022 21:10

I don't drink any kind of milk. I'm 45.
