I am so upset to hear Meat Loaf has passed away. I am listening to For Crying Out Loud and wondering if I could choose my favourite song or lyrics. There are so many I might find it impossible to choose. My brother had the album Bat Out Of Hell and it was one of the soundtracks to my childhood from around age 4. We still have the LPGrin My brother saw him live in Germany back in the 80s and said he was awesome.
My two current favourites are Bat out of Hell and Heaven Can Wait but this might change by the end of the weekend. I'll have to have a think about lyrics.
Please share yours in honour of such a fantastic performer who brought joy to sp many.

Not a huge fan but I did like Dead Ringer For Love. Raucous rock n roll at it's best.

Not a line but a story
My dad is so hard to buy for-he never wants anything for his birthday or Christmas
Anyway, one day he’d been gardening and came in saying he loved the song ‘bat out of hell’
He even sang a few lines of it to my mother
So I was dispatched off to buy the album for his birthday
He was delighted until he put it on
‘This isn’t bat out of hell-it’s shite,I liked the other one’
We’ve spent years trying to convince him that meatloaf only ever did one bat out of hell!

On another note it took me years to realise just how bloody dirty paradise by the dashboard light it
I’d listened to it for years-my kids loved it too

Banging tune tho

Objects In The Rearview Mirror.

I lost a friend as a child (hit by a car) and it always resonated with me.

I am gutted.

Paradise by the dashboard light. I used to ‘sing’ (I can’t sing) with my friend at karaoke. She performed Meatloaf and I was the woman. She died tragically and this song always reminds me of her.

JorisBonson · 21/01/2022 10:22

I want you, I need you, but there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you. Now don't be sad - 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 21/01/2022 10:25

Paradise by the dashboard light, two out of three and I'm gonna love her for both of us. Oh and hot patootie obviously

ColettesEarrings · 21/01/2022 10:25

Good girls go to heaven (Bad girls go everywhere) from the Bat Out Of Hell II album.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 21/01/2022 10:30

Paradise By The Dashboard Light reminds me of my college days, we always sang it at Karaoke.
So many good songs by Meatloaf.

PurpleDaisies · 21/01/2022 10:34

What about love from Bat Out of Hell III.

BeQuietBrenda · 21/01/2022 10:34

I love signing my heart out to "2 out of 3 ain't bad"

My favourite verse (no idea why, but I really love it) is:

You'll never find your gold on a sandy beach
You'll never drill for oil on a city street
I know you're looking for a ruby in a mountain of rocks
But there ain't no Coup de Ville hiding at the bottom
Of a Cracker Jack box

amusedbush · 21/01/2022 10:35

My parents are huge Meatloaf fans and one of my earliest memories is the Bat out of Hell album cover Grin

I love, love, love You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth and Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad.

I will be watching Rocky Horror tonight too - I’ve been singing Hot Patootie all morning ❤️

CthulhuInDisguise · 21/01/2022 10:36

I've always loved Out of the Frying Pan (and into the fire) for this lyric "I've seen you sitting on the steps outside and you were looking so restless and reckless and lost" - it just seems poetic.

I also love pretty much everything Jim Steinman ever wrote though, so Meatloaf's back catalogue makes me happy.

Mama1980 · 21/01/2022 10:36

You took the words right outta my mouth and sailor to a siren are probably my favourites.
I was lucky enough to see him live several times -his performances were electric.

squashyhat · 21/01/2022 10:37

Jim Steinman was an epic lyricist. Try cramming all the words to "Dead Ringer for Love" in when half drunk at NYE party karaoke session. Impossible Grin

peaceanddove · 21/01/2022 10:39

Oh no. This is so sad. 'For Crying Out Loud' has always been my and DH's song.

Motnight · 21/01/2022 10:40

I have been listening to Bat Out of Hell on my morning walks over the last few days. Love 2 out of 3 in particular but they are all fantastic.

Saw Meat Loaf perform in the very early 80s. What an amazingly talented man. RIP.

Dogmum40 · 21/01/2022 10:40

“ I want you, oh, I need you
But there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you
Now don't be sad, cause two out of three ain't bad”

From 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, the man who broke my heart said something along those lines when he broke up with me and even now I get sad thinking about him or listening to meat loaf! I’m happily married but he was the one that got away and it very nearly destroyed me 😩

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/01/2022 10:46

It's not pithy, but I remember the first time I properly listened to these 2 verses:

I couldn't take it any longer
Lord I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
Like a tidal wave
Started swearing to my god and on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore that I would love you to the end of time!

[Verse 8: Meat Loaf]
So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
It's all that I can do
Praying for the end of time
So I can end my time with you!

I was absolutely tickled pink by the switch in the lyrics (going from trying to make out with the woman, being badgered by her to say he was committed to her, and then suddenly this). The delivery is perfect too.i can't say how many times I have played this loudly, driving somewhere in the car, singing along. It always makes me smile.

I completely agree with this. I love all of his songs but the story in this one is great.

I saw him live in 1993 when he released Bat out of hell 2, and the last time he'd toured the UK was when the first one was released the year I was born. He was an amazing performer. I think my weekend will be filled with listening to Meatloaf.

suckingonchillidogs · 21/01/2022 11:04

It always annoys me when they play Bat out of Hell on the radio because they always cut it short before you get to the best bit "and the last thing I see is my heart still beating, still beating - breaking outta my body and flying awaaaaay like a Bat out of Hell". I always get ready to join in but they do it every time Angry

MintyGreenDream · 21/01/2022 11:16

Paradise by the dashboard light and Dead Ringer for Love

x2boys · 21/01/2022 11:21

Paradise by the dashboard light ,
They are all amazing but i love this song
I have sung it badly on karaoke ,and it's a long song 🤣

PatriciaHolm · 21/01/2022 11:26

Meat Loaf.

Two words.

This is going to bug me all day!

Anyway - i love most of it -saw him live several times. Had a big thing for Modern Girl for a bit, Midnight at the Lost and Found, and love Everything Louder than Everything Else/Wasted Youth as well as all the standards.

Me too ! Loved that song and the switch in lyrics ! But mostly the fact that after all that badgering ,and the final commitment, they BOTH end up "praying for the end of time, so I can end my time with you". What a classic .

Heaven can wait. My all time favourite. The Bat out of Hell album was the soundtrack to my late teens - everyone had it.
