Favourite Meat Loaf song or lyrics

I am so upset to hear Meat Loaf has passed away. I am listening to For Crying Out Loud and wondering if I could choose my favourite song or lyrics. There are so many I might find it impossible to choose. My brother had the album Bat Out Of Hell and it was one of the soundtracks to my childhood from around age 4. We still have the LPGrin My brother saw him live in Germany back in the 80s and said he was awesome.
My two current favourites are Bat out of Hell and Heaven Can Wait but this might change by the end of the weekend. I'll have to have a think about lyrics.
Please share yours in honour of such a fantastic performer who brought joy to sp many.

@MrsGinnyM

Just been listening to Objects In The Rear View Mirror. The official video is on YouTube.

And if life is just a highway
Then the soul is just a car
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are.

I'd not actually seen the video before. Very powerful.

All time favourite has to be "For Crying Out Loud" but I love to sing along to "Two out of Three"

Two out of Three ain't Bad has been my earworm today so that's what I pick. It has the right melancholy feel for me today.

wheresmyhairytoe · 21/01/2022 17:20

Singing loudly while dancing manically to Paradise by the dashboard light is quite the vocal and physical workout Grin

ToffeeNotCoffee · 21/01/2022 17:35

It was long ago and it was far away and it was so much better than it is today

female vocalist: it never felt so good it never felt so right

the ending of that magnificent song is very fitting.

ClariceQuiff · 21/01/2022 17:39

I don't like his music much but he was great in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Sorry he's gone.

Summertime
Summer days and different ways of loving you
Starry skies
Starry nights and northern nights are shinin'
The crystal ball
Showed me all there was to see
Your time, and mine belong together
Together........

@PatriciaHolm

Meat Loaf.

Two words.

This is going to bug me all day!

Anyway - i love most of it -saw him live several times. Had a big thing for Modern Girl for a bit, Midnight at the Lost and Found, and love Everything Louder than Everything Else/Wasted Youth as well as all the standards.

It’s irritating the hell out of me as well.

I don’t have one song but a variety of songs although it’s mainly the steinman songs but sung by Meat. I was so happy to hear For Crying Out Loud performed live. Left in the Dark is one that features highly on my playlists along with Objects in the Rearview Mirror.

MrsGinnyM · 21/01/2022 19:30

I have to mention Karla DeVito's performance with Meat on Paradise By The Dashboard Light - what chemistry and she holds her own against him.

Ovenaffray · 21/01/2022 20:21

The whole of Bat Out of Hell.

I’m genuinely gutted. My neighbours must hate me I’ve been looping it since first thing this morning.

QueefofSheena · 21/01/2022 20:25

You’re never alone cos you can put on the phones and let the drummer tell your heart what to do.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/01/2022 20:30

@Dumbledoresgirl

It's not pithy, but I remember the first time I properly listened to these 2 verses:

I couldn't take it any longer
Lord I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
Like a tidal wave
Started swearing to my god and on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore that I would love you to the end of time!

[Verse 8: Meat Loaf]
So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
It's all that I can do
Praying for the end of time
So I can end my time with you!

I was absolutely tickled pink by the switch in the lyrics (going from trying to make out with the woman, being badgered by her to say he was committed to her, and then suddenly this). The delivery is perfect too.i can't say how many times I have played this loudly, driving somewhere in the car, singing along. It always makes me smile.

fabulous
MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/01/2022 20:31

the whole of the Bat out of Hell album,
an album of my teens that has lasted the test of time

WalkingOnSonshine · 21/01/2022 20:38

I just adored him. One of my big music regrets is never being able to see him live.

DH knows when I’m trying to get out of a grump, because I’ll stick Meat Loaf on and dance around the kitchen.

The lyrics “oh baby you’re the only thing in this whole world that’s good & pure & right. And wherever you are and wherever you go, there’s always gonna be some light” always give me a lump in my throat - baby DS smiled for the first time when I was singing those words to him.

VanillaAndOrange · 21/01/2022 20:41

2 out of 3. I also love Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through but I knew and loved the "Jim Steinman" version (actually some session musician singing) first. I would love to be able to say I like everything Jim ever wrote but then I remember all that horrible cackling in Dance In My Pants...

Chelsea26 · 21/01/2022 21:00

Lowering the tone here but I can’t believe no one has said…

“And can’t you see my faded Levi’s bursting apart”

I remember the moment of realisation as a teenager after happily singing that song (and all his other ones) throughout my childhood Grin

I was lucky enough to meet him and he was both terrifying and lovely - it was a weird combination!

Gindrinker43 · 21/01/2022 21:02

Paradise by the Dashboard Light. Who hasn't duetted with him by singing the female part and shutting up when he's singing.

WeirdlyKind · 21/01/2022 21:06

Welcome to the Neighbourhood is my favourite album, and this song always hits me hard!

BalloonSlayer · 21/01/2022 21:11

I had my 3rd DC pretty ancient and often think of the line "for giving me a child . . .when my body was old."

wheredidallthegoodnamesgo · 21/01/2022 21:14

So many, but I do love this...

And then you took the words right out of my mouth
Oh it must have been while you were kissing me
You took the words right out of my mouth
Oh I swear it's true
I was just about to say I love you...

LoveFall · 21/01/2022 21:14

Paradise by the Dashboard Light. I had a dance around the kitchen to it just now. I had forgotten how much I loved it.

wheredidallthegoodnamesgo · 21/01/2022 21:18

WeirdlyKind

This is one of my all time favourites, so glad you posted it

And there was no tomorrow's.
As we packed away our sorrows.
And we saved it for a rainy day.

Onlinedilema · 21/01/2022 21:19

Dh got out his original vinyl copy of Bat out of Hell, I had the full album taped from a friend's copy. Dh saw Meat Loaf in 1979! He saw him later on as well but in 1979 his voice was amazing.
We watched the documentary earlier with Jim Steinman, Meat Loaf, and both female singers one sang on the album, one sang on the live tour. Every single record label rejected Bat Out of Hell.
Interesting to hear Jim say he insisted that Bat out of Hell be about a motorbike crash and must include the full outcome of the crash in the song.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 21/01/2022 21:25

On a hot summer night...
Would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses...
