How clean and tidy is your house generally?

Such as day to day. On the scale of spotless all the time to absolutely filthy?

I’m guessing mist would be in the middle somewhere? But I know it depends on standards.

I think I’m in the middle but closer to the filthy end Blush

My house is rarely tidy as I feel like I’m constantly running both the dishh washer and the washing machine.

Clean clothes are always on the floor waiting to be put away.

The hoover comes out once a week, s does the mop.

The toilet is cleaned every other day. The bathroom once a week.

I can’t remember the last time I cleaned the windows/window sills/skirting boards.

Kitchen is the tidiest and cleanest room in the house… every day. But it’s used the most.

My downstairs is clutter free, but the decor such as the doors/handles/furniture/sodas dated as we can’t afford to replace at the moment… so it brings down the house imo.

I work full time. Not single but husband works away during the week. Two children both in school (aged 12 & 8)… Their rooms are rarely tidy too!

It's pretty tidy and usually clean. It's not always 'guest ready' though because we're a busy family.

Currently DD is baking so the kitchen is a mess, I have the airer up with clothes drying and there's socks and pants on the radiators. Floors are hoovered, sitting room and dining room are tidy. I'd prefer 20 mins notice for someone to come around though mainly to put a bra on and chuck the wet washing upstairs!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/01/2022 13:20

It's tidy, I don't like messy surroundings. I don't anyone elses mess but my own bothers me.

I feel the same way about other people’s mess. Mine bothers me way more!

I'd say it ricochets from 9 to 4 several times a day.

MsWalterMitty · 15/01/2022 13:23

I don’t think my house has ever looked ‘guest ready’

When we were selling our last house, the constant tidying was so stressful!… I used to hit laundry in the wardrobe and dirty dishes in the cupboards

Grin why didn't you just hide them in the dishwasher/ washing machine?

Single parent, 2dc aged 16 and 13. I wfh dc at school. House always very tidy only thing out of place is the laundry drying on clothes horse in the winter. Dc bedrooms always tidy (they do that themselves). Bathroom cleaned thoroughly once a week and quick wipe over after every bath/shower plus bleach down toilet every day. Kitchen cleaned daily after preparing and eating meal. Hoovered once maybe twice a week. Being on my own, working full time and having dc activity runs to do this helps me, it only takes an hour and half to clean house top to bottom on a Saturday morning as never has chance to get dirty.

We didn’t have a dish washer at the time 🤣
The washing machine would have most definately already had clothes in it

Tidy and very clean
Dcs room probably not

Redlorryyellowduck · 15/01/2022 13:29

Mine is probably an 8, with the caveat it's a family home with young dc. Compared to a single woman's house it's probably a 4 Grin.
I don't clean or tidy for guests, they are friends and family, not the Hotel Inspector.
I try to keep on top of things, inevitably there are toys out but I think that's just living.

Echobelly · 15/01/2022 13:33

Very untidy, but not generally 'filthy'. There's not food plates left congealing for days, overflowing bins or dirty clothes all over the floor, though my husband takes ages to put away clean laundry in our room. There are also a few piles of DH stuff (mostly paperwork) that he never, ever puts away and no one else is allowed to.

The rug under dining table can sometimes get yucky if there's been messy eating and it's not been hoovered, but DH and I have got better at cleaning kitchen in between weekly cleaner visits so there's no longer occasional spills that have been on surfaces for days or anything like that. I can't clean 'to perfection', there'll always be the odd crumb left after I'm done and MIL seems to think that's leaving the place in a filthy mess but honestly I don't know how people get things spotless, life is too short to pick up every speck.

I did want to improve on the kitchen as I felt really awful in our last place where the lady who looked after our kids after school, when we asked her to stay and make the kids dinner when we were going out told us, as politely as she could, that she didn't like to cook in our kitchen as it was too messy (I didn't blame her, but we just didn't have to time to clean it after breakfast before we left for work), we'd leave her money for a local cafe when we did that instead.

Now the kids are older I have the time and energy to clean the kitchen almost every night, having made it a habit in the last two years.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 15/01/2022 13:35

I think it gets easier as the dc get older, my younger dc make loads of mess downstairs, feel like I'm constantly trying to pick up stuff to keep it tidy. The older ones only really make a mess in their rooms, and that doesn't bother me as I don't have to go in there (no plates cups etc allowed upstairs)

DramaAlpaca · 15/01/2022 13:39

As clean and tidy as it can be with three adults, two hairy spaniels and a cat living in it.

FazedNotPhased · 15/01/2022 13:41

The areas I'm in control of are very tidy and very clean. DP's study etc... different story.

Having building work at the moment though so slightly fighting a losing battle.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 15/01/2022 13:43

Clean and tidy. It makes my skin itch to see it messy and not clean. I paid a lot for my house and the contents in it. So I spend time on the up keep.

ComtesseDeSpair · 15/01/2022 13:43

Pretty spotless. But there’s only two of us, we’re good at picking up and putting away after ourselves as we go, wiping up kitchen spills and crumbs as they happen, and we just send the robot vacuum cleaner around overnight. Beyond that there isn’t a great deal to do apart from clean the bathroom, change the bed and run a damp cloth over dusty surfaces once a week.

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 15/01/2022 13:47

I manage to keep downstairs looking ok but upstairs is a disgrace. Clothes and books EVERYWHERE.
i need to throw away 90% of everything I own.
I worry about getting ill and a paramedic having to come into my room or dying and family coming into the house and seeing the bedrooms.
New tears resolution is to get upstairs sorted.

JerkintheMerkin · 15/01/2022 13:47

Always clean and tidy. I can't concentrate in a messy environment. I'm a great believer in 'Tidy house, tidy mind'.

Fuckitydoodah · 15/01/2022 13:49

It really depends on the day of the week. Today I'd say it's an 8 - this morning I've hoovered the whole house, washed bathroom floors, cleaned some windows and had a tidy. Bedding and towels all changed in the week and kids have tidied their rooms. I'm back to work Monday so it'll be around 4 by Thursday 🤦‍♀️. It's generally always clean though, just not very tidy at times.

Woofwoofbarkbark · 15/01/2022 13:50

Always clean and tidy. But I don't work so it would be pathetic if it was a mess and dirty!

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 15/01/2022 13:52

Usually like this. Not immaculate but tidy enough people don't tend to look shocked Grin

How clean and tidy is your house generally?
FriendshipsAreHardForMe · 15/01/2022 13:53

I would say we are middle to tidy end.

Mainly because of my partner who loves to tidy and hates clutter.

I would say we're fairly tidy but not always the cleanest. I need to dust more and deep clean (under furniture etc). But generally the rooms are tidy.

We have one bedroom that's cluttered with laundry. I long for a utility room!

Port1aCastis · 15/01/2022 13:53

Clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy so about a 5

FindingMeno · 15/01/2022 13:54

It's middling but my standards are ridiculously high.
