Which switch game do I really need?

Troublesometooth · 12/01/2022 08:17

I’ve but the bullet and bought a Switch for myself (the family).

I have a 2 and 5 year old. The 5 year old will want Let’s Go Pikachu but we won’t be buying it for a few weeks when he has enough reward stars.

I don’t have lots of money to spent buying games straight away (especially as last minute I went for the Oled model so went over budget!) What do I really need a s a good starting point?

Mario Kart!!

I play Zelda Breath of the Wild which is fabulous but that would be too complex for your little ones.

Occitane · 12/01/2022 09:00

I agree, Zelda Breath of the Wild is amazing, the best game I've ever played - for you though, not the children.

Kpo58 · 12/01/2022 09:49

Just Dance
Mario Kart
Kirby Star Allies (my 5 year old is obsessed with it)

Breath of the Wild for you, it's still rated one of the best games of all time

Mario Party is great for playing with your kids, very silly

SillyLittleBiscuit · 12/01/2022 10:46

Obsessed with BOTW. My switch is currently next to my desk and I'm attempting the Trial of Thunder mission in between meetings Blush

I've also got Fifa, Ring Fit and Mario Kart - MK would be great for youngsters.

skgnome · 12/01/2022 10:49

As a family we like Mario Kart, Mario Party and Just Dance
Have been used with extended family, so ages 5 - 85 have played them and enjoyed them

RosieRoww · 12/01/2022 10:51

Mario kart and mario party superstar.

Troublesometooth · 12/01/2022 11:11

Thanks everyone. Seems Mario Kart is a must!

I’m not sure about Zelda, I’m not usually into fantasy sort of things. But it does have good reviews so I may need to try it! I was thinking of getting animal crossing for me to start with.

Animal crossing

Wolf1970 · 12/01/2022 11:26

I got a Switch for Xmas. I got Animal Crossing but don’t really like it despite playing the old version on Wii years ago and Pocket Camp.
I got Zelda and it is brilliant though I generally don’t like that genre

EnglishGirlApproximately · 12/01/2022 11:27

Another vote for Mario Party and Mario Kart. The new Pokemon snap is good for younger kids too. Its worth looking at the free demos you can download as we play some of them regularly - pocket mini golf, boomerang fu and what the golf are all decent size demos.

Bendyandthestinkmachine · 12/01/2022 11:30

For you or for your kids?
Mario Kart and Pokemon for the kids
For you, Animal Crossing
If you look on the eshop they usually have offers on but the big name titles tend to stay around £40.

I can't believe you bought the kids an oled! I got an Oled for Christmas (DC both have one each) and I do not let my kids play with my switch. Grin I don't want grubby little hands over that lovely screen.

AlbertBridge · 12/01/2022 11:39

You only need Animal Crossing. And then a nanny, a stair gate that your DC can't cross, Deliveroo, JustEat, and a commode.

Rubyupbeat · 12/01/2022 11:39

I got a switch lite last year, currently living Luigis mansion and the witcher, but not suitable for little ones.

BarbiesBeaver · 12/01/2022 11:42

A Short Hike is really nice game from the eshop. You are a bird flying about exploring an island. Only about £6.

negomi90 · 12/01/2022 11:49

I got a switch for me. Got breath of the wild for my dad when he visits. I hate Zelda and fighty games. I wasn't intending to play it myself. I love breath of the wild, and am surprisingly far in it.

abcdeckthehalls · 12/01/2022 11:55

Like PPs, Breath of the Wild is just the best game I have ever played in my life. I hate fighting, action, following a storyline games because I’m generally rubbish at controlling and get annoyed when I’ve died 8 times in the first minute - I am usually much more of an Animal Crossing person. So when DP bought it for us to play I was very Hmm but I literally loved it! So much so that I actually CRIED when we finished it Grin

Ha ha. I went Oled mainly because the normal one wasn’t in stock where I needed to buy from!

Mario party for the whole family.
Untitled goose game for the adults

MiddleClassProblem · 12/01/2022 12:27

Marion party and mario kart are great together games.

There’s a great animal crossing thread on here, very supportive and helpful (told me about an app where you can keep a record of what you still have to collect).

I got a big board in Zelda though.

DD really got into minecraft last year when she was 6 so that might be a future consideration.

We really enjoy the Lego games and they have been a great starter for DD into gaming.

Warning for animal crossing, I set up my lovely island but didn’t realise that when DD played on her profile, she would be on the same island. It is now her island with crap everywhere and I rarely play…

MiddleClassProblem · 12/01/2022 12:28

Big board? A bit bored! 🤦🏽‍♀️

Wouldyoubaby · 12/01/2022 12:34

Animal crossing!

blahblahx · 12/01/2022 12:35

Animal Crossing!
I also have Spyro The Trilogy as it brings back memories as a 90s kid, as well as Crash Bandicoot.

CluelessHamster · 12/01/2022 12:36

Super Mario

Luigi's mansion was fun

Mol1628 · 12/01/2022 12:37

Mario kart!

Mine also got into minecraft at about age 6 so that’s a good one to try.
