Another Bloody Downing Street party

JustJam4Tea · 10/01/2022 21:51

So hours after telling us to only meet one other person outside from a different household 100 invited to Downing Street BYO in the garden.

It was unlawful to mix outside. If my employer had invited 100 staff to a garden party we’d have all been arrested.

@DuncinToffee

Oh dear we now have a tory political broadcast, more lies
The BBC desperate to keep the Conservatives in?
SpindleyCrow · 13/01/2022 01:39

This is an interesting article on Sue Gray, tucked away at the arse end of MailOnline late last night UK time.

TwentyFirstCenturyTricoteuse · 13/01/2022 06:25

Christ I hope I never make it into the Mail, I'd be an ex-roadside caff waitress.

Notonthestairs · 13/01/2022 06:42

Interesting that Rees-Mogg was so keen to divert from the Johnson party story that he deliberately dismissed the value of the Scottish Conservatives (yes I know it was directed at Ross specifically).

rrhuth · 13/01/2022 06:43

Katest poll has the Tories down to 28%. That is going to worry Tory MPs far more than any ethical concerns about lying!

Awful. The arrogance is breathtaking.

VikingOnTheFridge · 13/01/2022 06:47

@BashStreetKid

Sajed Javid was visibly struggling to handle questions about the party on Peston this evening, and he's normally pretty articulate.
Not surprisingly! Imagine being expected to go out and defend that.

Incidentally, did we all see Rishi's incredibly lukewarm contribution?

jgw1 · 13/01/2022 07:08

Yes. Carrie’s chums

Well why shouldn't she have some friends round to sit and chat in her back garden? It is not as if her husband is around much, with his ever so busy job trying to work out how to justify his latest error of judgement (is that what he also calls his children?).

Notonthestairs · 13/01/2022 07:22

Yes I saw Sunak's tweet last night. He's definitely keeping his distance (not just Westminster to Devon).

Lol!
Yes make out that this Sue Gray is a hard nosed impartial investigator, so when she clears BJ, Tories can justify the whitewash.

If you have to chose someone to investigate your own behavior, your hardly likely to appointment anyone who will find you guilty...

Remember his initial appointment was a CS who had attended these parties.

AlexaShutUp · 13/01/2022 07:26

It is very telling that the PM finds it difficult to distinguish between a work meeting and a social occasion, even after 25 minutes. It doesn't reflect well at all on the work culture at Downing Street, as he obviously didn't find it unusual that no work was getting done.

Notonthestairs · 13/01/2022 07:30

Yes Sue Gray is both one of us (who doesn't love a pub landlady) and a ruthless investigator who'll stop at nothing and will throw her boss overboard for breaching the law.

Player067 · 13/01/2022 07:35

So she’s on a career break and buys a pub in Newry? At the height of the Troubles? Yeah right. I imagine she was seconded to security services and this was a cover.

noblegiraffe · 13/01/2022 07:38

Well why shouldn't she have some friends round to sit and chat in her back garden?

Because it wasn't allowed under lockdown restrictions.

It is a funny thing, but if I was to drink at work, let alone to regularly drink at work I would be out of a job quicker than Boris comes out with his lies.

But she isn't just anyone, she is the Prime Minister's wife. The man who has been so busy single handily (best not to ask what his other hand was doing) has ensured that your flat is decorated with the finest wallpaper by using the pandemic to enrich your already filthy rich mates.

This has distinct echoes of Major keeping determinedly out of the way when Thatcher was on the rocks. Interesting.
derxa · 13/01/2022 08:09

I'm fed up with people using the terms 'loved ones' and 'mates'

Peregrina · 13/01/2022 08:17

I can't see now why Sue Gray needs to investigate anything. They have admitted breaking the law - even if only in a limited and specific way, to use a phrase previously employed - so why aren't the Metropolitan Police being called in right now? OK part of the reason which Cressida Dick will give is that they don't investigate crimes which were done in the past.

LumosSolem · 13/01/2022 08:19

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but did anyone else see Christopher Chope commenting on politics live yesterday? His quote I've attached is from the bbc website.

His comment about 'reasonable people' accepting that arsehole's apology really pissed me off. How dare he suggested that people who suffered absolutely horrendously in May 2020 when they were holding garden parties at Downing Street are 'unreasonable' for thinking Boris and cronies are an absolutely disgrace and that pathetic excuse of an apology is acceptable.

Another Bloody Downing Street party
Peregrina · 13/01/2022 08:20

What was Johnson doing with his other hand? I was going to say, jabbing the UK population with the Covid vaccine, but then I remembered what someone called out yesterday when the excuses were being trotted out. This is more likely.

SerendipityJane · 13/01/2022 08:25

When were Boris and Carrie married ?

As if Chope would understand anything about reasonable people.

I hope we'll look back and see those restrictions for the madness they were. Nicola Sturgeon and Mark Drakeford would like them to continue until the end of time.
