So was just looking at where Morcambe is, whilst watching the shambolic Spurs game. And was surprised to see Carlisle is in England... I would have bet my DH life on it being in Scotland Confused

Isn't Carlisle in Scotland?

I always think that when I get to Scotch corner on the A1 I'm not far from Scotland Grin

FanGirlX · 11/01/2022 13:41

@CSJobseeker

York isn't even halfway up really. Apparently Haltwhistle in Northumberland is on the dividing line between the northern and southern halves of the UK, and that's a fair way north of York.
I always thought it was Hexham but don't know where I got that from.

Another point to research 😂

The various geometric centroids of the U.K./British Isles are all in Lancashire.

I always start singing 'too old too Rock and roll......' by Jethro Tull when we hit Scotch Corner. It drives Dh and Ds mad and they threaten to drive the long way home if I do it again!!

When I hit the A19 coming from the south, I always start humming 'welcome home'🥴🥴🥴

Apart from the choice of song, I am still 1.5 hours away🤣

DementedPanda · 11/01/2022 22:50

Scotch corner is an hours drive from the start of Northumberland.

My family are from near Watford Gap and it's commonly assumed to be Watford, Hertfordshire not Watford, Northamptonshire.

I’ve learnt something new - I thought it was the Watford just north of the M25!

Maybe a few hundred years ago OP Grin

I once heard someone refer to Warcop and thought they were referring to Poland Blush thankfully That thought stayed in my head

AsYouWishButtercup · 12/01/2022 22:05

Oh and Glasgow Preswtick airport is NOWHERE NEAR Glasgow.

I learnt that the hard way and paid the small fortune of the next flight to my holiday destination.

About 15 years ago (pre-DC), we set ourselves a challenge of going to all four extremities of Great Britain (mainland) in the space of 12 months - and we did it!

South: Lizard Point, Cornwall - really lovely, bucolic, fantastic day out

West: Ardnamurchan Point, Highland - breathtakingly beautiful, truly amazing, and a really exciting 'adventure' to get there

North: Dunnet Head, Highland - feels other-worldly, historic, remote, windswept, glorious, like you're on a film set

East: Lowestoft Ness, Suffolk - there's a great big Birds Eye factory there....

I always have to stop and think for a second whenever somebody mentions Walsall Grin

freelions · 13/01/2022 07:33

That sounds amazing! @WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

(except for the Lowestoft bit Grin)

AthelstaneTheUnready · 13/01/2022 10:13

Lowestoft. Anagram of Lots of Wet. Very applicable.

TattyDevine · 13/01/2022 21:35

I always thought Dunkirk sounded like a place in Scotland.

Disclaimer: I realise it's the English spelling, and also I'm not British.

Do you mean because of the Sea? Lowestoft is actually one of the driest places in the UK if you're talking about rainfall
