Phrases you hate reading on mumsnet

Ohmycron · 08/01/2022 12:38

I’ve been on mumsnet for about 18 years and you know what, if I read about people putting ducks in a row once more I might go mental.
What phrase do you hate.

OP posts:
AuntyBumBum · 09/01/2022 14:07

Anyone from the mother to the dog being prefixed with "darling" or its abbreviation.

And "grim" (which just seems to mean anything from takeaways to oral sex which the nice ladies disapprove of).

Snorkmaidenn · 09/01/2022 14:12

I love the crude phrases and LTB, makes me chuckle.

Only posters who correct others, just think they should enjoy this forum and loosen their knickers.

Curiousmouse · 09/01/2022 14:44

I hate reading statement sentences which end with the word' no', followed by a question mark.

Along the lines of, for example, "Anal sex is wrong and people shouldn't participate in it. No?"

Makes me shudder every time. It's so contrived.

ViaRia · 09/01/2022 14:53

referring to the OP’s other half: Do he usually…xyz?

Nothing else. No advice or context for asking the question. When I read that I just think ‘there’s always one’

Curiousmouse · 09/01/2022 15:44

I think it might be you in this context. My post is referring to any sentence on any subject posted as a question in this exact way.

I loathe this too! And what REALLY annoys me is: DNiece, DDog, DNephew, DCat etc.....

DFuckoff. Hmm Just put Niece, Dog, Nephew, Cat FFS!!!

JustJustWhy · 09/01/2022 17:07

@PooPooPongDelong

Posters who suggest asking something 'breezily' WTAF who does that?
Monika Grin
JustJustWhy · 09/01/2022 17:08

Monica.

Stupid autocorrect.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 09/01/2022 17:12

Any man acting like an arsehole should be checked for depression/ autism or dementia.

tenredthings · 09/01/2022 17:22

Can't be assed to read everything so maybe already said but I can't stand 'get your ducks in a row ' or suggestions to leave the bastard when it's clearly way harder and more complex than just shutting the door on your way out !

DrSbaitso · 09/01/2022 17:26

Also, it fucks me right off when people say 'those people who say FATHER CHRISTMAS are a higher CLASS, than those who say SANTA.'

EVERYTHING is a class signifier here. It's an absolute obsession. A word that I can't stand on MN is "common", as if the poster thinks they're Nancy Mitford. Does anyone actually say this in real life? And do they realise what pretentious twats they sound like?

PooPooPongDelong · 09/01/2022 17:38

Anyone who uses snobby or posh as an insult
Posters who reply with something totally irrelevant or reply with ‘this wouldn’t bother me’ it obviously bothers the person who posted so why bother replying to it with that ?

Not so much a phrase but the recommended scripted responses that the OP should use with their annoying boss, neighbour, school gate mum etc You can just tell that the writer thinks they are being terribly witty and that their smug turgid rebuke will be so devastating that the recepiant will have a Damascene moment and see the error of their ways and make the appropriate changes in their lives rather then the more probable outcome of a kick in the cunt.

Brevity is the soul of wit. And those scripted responses are so very rarely brief.

This 100%! Especially on long running series threads which would be potentially interesting but run out far less quickly if the first hundred posts weren’t some kind of place mark, often with a ‘joke’ theme. It’s so tedious.

Other than that many of these are not MN specific, and these threads usually turn a tad nasty.

Picky bits
Reach out

Ohmycron · 09/01/2022 19:57

I feel that picky bits. (Vomit) has been roundly complained about. Therefore we must defeat it.

OP posts:
RussianSpy101 · 09/01/2022 19:58

Did you mean to be so rude.

🙄 sounds so ridiculous

Remmy123 · 09/01/2022 20:01

You do you

And

HTH

DrSbaitso · 09/01/2022 20:34

To each their own.

I don't mind the phrase itself, but it's always used at the end of a post that outlines at length why the poster's way is the only right way and anyone who does it differently is stupid, wrong and morally inferior.

I actually can't remember ever seeing it. Like the mythical spa day and magic chicken, I see people berating it constantly but I don't think I've ever seen it actually in use.
RestingStitchFace · 09/01/2022 20:37

Not a Mumsnet thing, But I hate 'hive mind' .

PurpleRainlnTheSky · 09/01/2022 20:49

@PooPooPongDelong

Posters who reply with ‘this wouldn’t bother me.

This annoys me too. 'MEH... I couldn't get worked up about this' some smugly retort, when a poster posts about something that has upset them.

There was a fucking corker on here a few days ago. A poster put a thread up saying she (and I think her DC) were in the swimming baths changing room. As they were coming out of the little changing cubicle, a man wandered slightly into the female area, dropped his towel, (revealing his 'bits,) and laughed, and then said 'bet that woke you up eh?' Grin

Hmm

Most posters were understandably horrified, but one poster said 'I couldn't get upset or worked up about this OP.' I was like 'Whaaaaa???' Shock The poor lass had basically been a victim of a sexual assault (as had her DC,) and this poster was acting like she was complaining about someone farting near her. Hmm

cafedesreves · 09/01/2022 21:07

@DrSbaitso I agree! It always gets brought up on these but I never see it in posts
