Phrases you hate reading on mumsnet

I’ve been on mumsnet for about 18 years and you know what, if I read about people putting ducks in a row once more I might go mental.
What phrase do you hate.

Example being there are actually buses you can get on and it’s not a 6 hour drive to the nearest town like some places in Australia. Or places like Mongolia where there aren’t any actual roads to get to places

So there isn't anywhere truly rural because we aren't Australia or Mongolia 🤨

Lack of infrastructure is a big problem in rural UK.

I commented earlier about 'i am bias' - it's sloppiness.

In your opinion. As rude as that is.

Granted. Bias for biased is wrong. Not an opinion medal awarded

It's not a matter of opinion. It's "I am biased". I am bias is simply wrong.

I hate 'tinkly laugh' especially when accompanied by a head tilt. The people who do them or even talk about doing them, even in jest, are not my people.

Bluesparkled · 10/01/2022 03:06

Give your head a wobble
You do realise
Wake up
Makes me disagree with the poster immediately even if I otherwise wouldn’t. Just awful

ilovesooty · 10/01/2022 04:03

I repeat - patronising

Barked - no someone said something you didn't like

Did ye aye / cool story bro - just troll hunting.

Sockwomble · 10/01/2022 06:40

"plenty of people think", "other posters agree that" etc. Always said by a goady fucker in a controversial discussions when very few people have agreed with them.

interferingma · 10/01/2022 07:10

another poster who has never seen the mythical picky bits mentioned, nor the miraculous chicken that fees a family for a week.
But i do buck against DH, DS etc. I use them because everyone does, but it induces an inward shudder when i do. It's a little cult like isn't it?

LizBennet · 10/01/2022 07:24

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3939492-What-do-you-call-this-plate-of-food

There's just one thread where "picky bits" are mentioned, there are others if you search.

interferingma · 10/01/2022 07:28

Marvellous @LizBennet Still never seen it in passing, though good to know a search yields it. I obviously don't spend enough time on here!

I don't! I just put H, D or S, or even the full word!
interferingma · 10/01/2022 08:07

Well done you @Chunkymenrock
I succumbed to peer pressure after being shamed (under a previous user name years ago) after old hands scented new blood when I called my DH husband. There! I've done it again!

saraclara · 10/01/2022 08:11

"Just saying"
"...but that's just me"

cabsavpls · 10/01/2022 09:05

" if that make sense" after every sentence. People do this a lot in real life too.

Yes, of course it makes sense, i'm not stupid. Almost always said when explaining something very simple

Chunkymenrock · 10/01/2022 09:45

Wittering on about 'modelling' a relationship to your children. No, I'm just human, trying to do my best and make the right choices. Surely we are all in that boat, rather than making every single action into something to perform to children that might make, break or shape them?

Chunkymenrock · 10/01/2022 09:47

"See what I did there...?" after the most obvious and unfunny joke to ever be shared.

That's not a MN saying, it's a general Internet culture phrase. But I think it's starting to die out now.

I find this post depressing. I expect OP meant it to be light-hearted, but the pile-on of shouty messages from people who HATE and are ENRAGED by harmless phrases is very off-putting. The grammar, style and spelling police are out in full force (some of them displaying the very faults they claim to loathe!). If I were new to Mumsnet and considering making a post, I wouldn't do it after reading this thread. It highlights what seems to be a community of angry, judgmental people, intolerant of much that is written, almost like a crowd of Daily Mail readers - although I know (hope) that most Mumsnetters are not like that at all. If you don't like so much of what is written on Mumsnet, you don't need to keep reading it!

midsomermurderess · 10/01/2022 12:11

'if that make sense" after every sentence'. Also in the same vein, IYSWIM. Trust other posters not to be as dumb as you, OP.

Well, that’s cheered me up no end…
Sparklingbrook · 10/01/2022 12:16

It's not depressing, and it won't do anything. Everyone's got it off their chest but people will still post all the things listed and then in a few month's time there'll be another thread probably.
Knowing some of these are annoying might even prompt posters to use them more. Grin

I always assumed that if someone writes "If that makes sense" and IYSWIM at the end of a post, it's not because they think that their intended audience - be it one PP or everyone reading - is stupid; rather it's that they're worried they haven't explained themselves clearly 🤷‍♀️
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 10/01/2022 12:49

Yes I would assume the same.
