Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

lucysmam · 08/01/2022 09:01

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in silence, as usual!

We're not doing much of anything today - last night's pots need to be washed, school shirts ironed and some washing done for the girls' uniforms. We need to nip to Asda too; I need a few things to make what we have in, into actual meals that'll feed us properly!

Both girls are still in bed atm, but I'm off up to get dressed at 9:30 ish, so will see how awake they are then & they can give me a hand.

There are a couple of smaller jobs to be done too - dd2's calendar needs a nail in the wall, and dd1 has some lights she wants to put up, there's something else too but I can't remember what it is 🤷‍♀️

I want to try and cram it all into today because tomorrow's my 40th birthday & I start a new position at work next week sometime so I'd like to spend tomorrow just "being" apart from cooking a roast.

Later on, they'll Minecraft or watch other people play Minecraft 🙄🤣! And I plan to carry on with the socks I'm crocheting for dd1.

What about everyone else? Anyone up to much? :)

Washing, taking the Christmas tree down, crochet.

I know how to live it up Grin

whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy · 08/01/2022 09:03

I'm considering doing some packing for a house move maybe next week. I don't want to be preemptive or too delaying and leave us in a mess. Tricky.

Kids want pancakes, I need to do laundry and will also do some exercise at some point, and DH and I are considering a babysitter as it is the anniversary of our first date.

Mogloveseggs · 08/01/2022 09:05

Morning!
I've been up a while. Washed up, managed to stand in the poo that the bloody cat had done on the mat instead of in his tray next to it! So had to wash slippers, floor etc.
dd is at work at 12 and needs to go to the range to pick up an order before that. I might suggest we go early and have a Costa.
Dh and Ds have plans to watch superman and Lois later and I'll read. Need to do a tip run too.
No inspiration for tea yet either so need to have a think on that.

Happy birthday for tomorrow! Get everything done today and enjoy your birthday!!

Today I’m waiting for my new sofas to be delivered, estimated to be around 11am. I’m super excited as I haven’t had brand new sofas for 20 years, always second hand. I then plan to spend the rest of the weekend sitting/laying on them watching Netflix.
Oh and I’m making a couple of new recipes too for dinner tonight and tomorrow.

Littlewhiteballs · 08/01/2022 09:06

I have a big project to do today! I'm building a stand for an enormous 4 foot wide vivarium. I hate the fake wood cabinets they sell in pet shops for vivs, so I'm attempting to make a rustic style one out of pallets. I have an ancient drill, jigsaw and plenty of coffee. Wish me luck!

PermanentTemporary · 08/01/2022 09:08

Happy birthday for tomorrow!

Ds turns 18 tomorrow [WHERE did the time go] so I have a few jobs, like getting a card because the one I bought 8 months ago has disappeared, and making a cake. However, I'm also booked in for a colour and cut so am going to take a book and enjoy it. Right now I'm clearing out the Tools and Lightbulbs drawer which is a disaster area - would like to get that done before hair.

ForkHandlesplease · 08/01/2022 09:10

Still in bed, Dh took tree and decorations down yesterday , will get them into the attic . House is clean and tidy but bare. I have a (very healthy)click and collect shop to hopefully start me on track next week. I Want to organise my work clothes for week agead. And plan to relax over the weekend read a bit.

Kim82 · 08/01/2022 09:11

My youngest (7) wanted to sleepover at her grandmas last night so it’s nice and quiet here this morning as the teens are still asleep (17yo dd, her friend and 14yo dd) I’m waiting for my Tesco delivery which is due any minute then I’m at the hairdressers at 11am.

Once the 7 year old gets home I’ll be going to my sisters as it was my niece’s birthday yesterday and dropping off a present. The 17 year old and 7 year old are then staying at my sisters tonight (17 yeAr old will be babysitting my 9yo niece and 7yo dd) which just leaves the 14 year old at home. Her friend is staying over to keep her company while me, dh and all the other adult members of our family go out for a meal.

Dh is then going to meet his friend for a drink after the meal and I’ll be going home to watch a film with the two teens left in our house.

My house feels like Piccadilly Circus at times with different people staying overnight and dc staying in different places, it keeps us busy!

Florencenotflo · 08/01/2022 09:16

Dd1&2 are watching tv at the moment and probably will for most of the morning. I have washing to catch up on and the usual ironing of uniforms and dinner for tomorrow to make.

The kids are off to the panto this afternoon with my wonderful in laws so they won't be back until tea time. While they are there I will be going to asda to get balloons, banners and party supplies for DD1's party next week. If I get time I might even get myself a coffee and cinnamon roll on the way home.

DD1 has her friends party tomorrow so I might try and do something just with dd2 while she's there. Not sure yet!

UncomfortableSilence · 08/01/2022 09:17

I've been up a while, emptied the dishwasher, put a load of washing on and done the ironing. Reorganised one of my kitchen cupboards and I'm just sitting here on my second cup of tea having a lovely chat with DD while she eats her breakfast. DH and DD1 are both still sleeping.
Going to have a shower then I need to go out and buy a colleague a birthday card and present, and then want to look for ideas of paint and paper as re decorating our hall, stairs and landing this month.
DD1 has revision and coursework to do so expect she will be in all day, then home to chill, it's been an exhausting week back at work.

MonkeyPuddle · 08/01/2022 09:18

I’m sat scrolling MN, half watching The Office repeats and DD14mo toddling around. DP is making bacon sarnies, DS is at his dads this weekend. Just waiting for my LFT to develop as I’m on a night shift tonight.
Not got much of anything planned, got some washing to do and put away, I’ll go for a sleep for a couple of hours this afternoon. Day of not much, but it’s nice after such a busy few weeks.

DeathMetalMum · 08/01/2022 09:21

Not a great deal. Weather is atrocious here, freezing and mix of rain/sleet/hail. We will probably walk/drive to the library depending on weather this morning and to get out of the house for a short while.

Dc still have some Christmas things to build/make so I will probably end up helping dd2 make her robot this afternoon, while dd1 either sews or makes slime. Luckily we made use of the milder weather last week and spent plenty of time outside.

FlyingGoose · 08/01/2022 09:24

Just got up and had a cup of tea. I need to make breakfast and then do the washing and the cleaning. Dropping DTD off at her friends this afternoon. Buy new PE kits on the way back and then hopefully catch up with some coursework whilst DTS watches Doctor Who. Hopefully be a productive day.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/01/2022 09:25

Taking DS to a friend's party. The joys!

The Christmas decorations need to come down later. I haven't been able to face doing it until now!

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 08/01/2022 09:26

Happy birthday for tomorrow @lucysmam and best of luck for the job. Is that the one you said about a few weeks ago?

I got up with toddler this morning, DH has covid so is asleep. Other children are in their rooms / reading / playing etc

Not sure on plans for today. Obviously DH is isolating plus one of our children. I'm debating taking my older ones to McDonald's for breakfast and then to some shops on the same retail park as McDonald's as they both need new school uniform etc but don't really fancy the drive in this heavy rain / hail. Plus they are still in bed and we would have to leave just after 10. Hmmmm

Not sure on plans for the afternoon. Just pottering around the house, uniform wash etc. Im hoping to find some time for a long bath with my book and new bath products I got for Christmas

Chicken and chorizo slow cooker casserole for dinner. Not sure what to have with it. Need to get that in the slow cooker actually.

Have a lovely day all.

ilovebagpuss · 08/01/2022 09:30

2nd coffee in bed doing the weekend quiz with DH. Kitten snoozing on bed. Rainy here and gloomy. DD1 wants to go to TK Maxx as she had some vouchers for birthday to spend. DD2 will laze about most of the day unless she has homework.
My DF is coming for a roast tomorrow so need a few bits for that. Need to meal plan and food shop for next week.
Just want to stay in bed with kitten and coffee ☕️

Vampirethriller · 08/01/2022 09:32

We're watching Bluey and having toast and marmalade, we've taken the dog out in the horizontal rain. Daughter has to take her wheelbarrow everywhere with us lately. We've got to go to the supermarket in a bit but wheelbarrows aren't allowed in Asda thankfully. Not even really well behaved ones, no.
If it stops raining we'll go to the allotment later.

Eggsley · 08/01/2022 09:33

Happy birthday for tomorrow @lucysmam, hope you have a lovely day and are spoilt!

Not much happening here today. DH has
just gone out as his U11 football team have a match this morning. He'll be back around lunchtime.

DS1 is gaming upstairs. DS2 is playing on his switch next to me in the living room. Ddog is asleep. I'm about to go and have a shower but deciding whether to have another cup of tea first.

No plans to go anywhere or do anything really, today or tomorrow. I've got some work to catch up on so might do a couple of hours this afternoon. Our bedroom needs a tidy up too, it's become a bit of a dumping ground over Christmas. It's cold, wet and miserable here today and I'm feeling tired after the first week back at work so a quiet weekend is what we all need I think!

lucysmam · 08/01/2022 09:33

@Littlewhiteballs you'll have to come back and show us if it turns out well!

Thanks @PermanentTemporary Happy Birthday to your DS too!🥳

@Plantsandpuddlesuits, it is! They held 3 interview sessions yesterday & rang me back before the end of school so can't have taken much deciding. I've been wandering round like the Cheshire Cat, with a huge grin, since!

@FlyingGoose you've reminded me I have a 'to do' list of online courses for work to do!

Mad dash to the vets as my cat has taken a funny turn (hoping it's nothing serious, but he is 15 so 🤷🏻‍♀️).

Need to food shop and take DD12 to a friends house for a sleepover.

Would like to fit a workout in at some point as well.

DH is working late shift so will leave for work in a couple of hours and wont see him again till I wake up tomorrow Sad

AllotmentTime · 08/01/2022 09:36

DH has sorted the DCs’ breakfast and now he and I are both back in bed drinking coffee and watching sports. Really should get up and get going as my DPs are coming for lunch and staying over to babysit while DH and I go out. But I cba. We’ve already warned them we’ll be in the middle of taking the tree down!

Penny31 · 08/01/2022 09:38

Usual back and forth to various clubs.

Need a shower, washing, ironing, cleaning. Fun times!

lucysmam · 08/01/2022 09:38

Aw @Nidan2Sandan I do hope your cat's ok 🤞

Older DC off to dance classes this morning.
DC1 has asked to make a poster this afternoon, so while DC3 naps we will do that, get the lego out, and I will do some cleaning and washing.
DH has a shelf and two coat hooks to put up, and we need to go out to Argos.
We're having pie and mash for tea, then probably a film. We would usually go for a walk but it's tipping it down today!

BoodleBug51 · 08/01/2022 09:50

I'm on about week 4 post Covid and still feel absolutely horrendous........ so I'm cuddled up on the sofa with the dogs and looking outside in horror at the driving rain............

I have a moutain of laundry, bed needs changing and frankly I just can't be arsed. On the plus side however, I found some hotel chocolat coffee pods lurking at the back of the cupboard so I'm enjoying one of those.
