My friend says it all the time but I’ve never heard anyone else say it here. I just realised her parents are from Northampton. Would it be from there?

OP posts:
Memo7 · 07/01/2022 20:44

Common in Derbyshire.

Eileen101 · 07/01/2022 20:44

My husband says it a lot - west/east miss border

OliveHenry · 07/01/2022 20:44

Said often in (South) Yorkshire too :-)

MadMadMadamMim · 07/01/2022 20:45

North Lincs. Fairly common expression.

Immunetypegoblin · 07/01/2022 20:45

What does it mean? Confused

delilabell · 07/01/2022 20:45

We say it in the Midlands

Kookookachuu · 07/01/2022 20:45

I’d also say Derbyshire

Serena1977 · 07/01/2022 20:45

Common here in Nottinghamshire

museumum · 07/01/2022 20:46

What on earth does it mean??

Whycantibetangy · 07/01/2022 20:46

Fairly common saying in North Yorkshire

MeanMrMustardSeed · 07/01/2022 20:47

I’d also like to know what it means please! I love this sort of thing.

Linguini · 07/01/2022 20:47

Are you mishearing?

"Going" with a silent g at the end can sound like
"gon" or "goan" "gawn" in some accents.
Many people miss off the g for words ending in ING.

EmmaH2022 · 07/01/2022 20:48

Another one interested to know what it means.

littleburn · 07/01/2022 20:48

From the West Midlands and never heard it. What does it mean??

user1493494961 · 07/01/2022 20:48

Common in the Midlands where I grew up.

Spudlet · 07/01/2022 20:48

Pretty common in Leicestershire too

Linguini · 07/01/2022 20:48

Is it supposed to mean going out?

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/01/2022 20:48

My friend says it and she's from Nottingham. I've never heard it used in Bristol.
I have heard people locally say "to look at someone cockled like"

RonniePickering · 07/01/2022 20:49

Never heard it before 🤷🏼‍♀️

ToJabOrNotToJab · 07/01/2022 20:49

West Midlands. Means looking at someone as if to say, 'Seriously?!'

Motherdare · 07/01/2022 20:50

Is anyone going to explain what it means?

Whistleforthechoir · 07/01/2022 20:50

I say that all the time! As does everyone I know , didn't realise it wasn't a 'thing' elsewhere in the UK Blush

Yorkshire

BottlingBurpsForGrandma · 07/01/2022 20:50

It means sort of gawp at someone in surprise, shock or bafflement

He said I should lose weight and I looked at him gone out

I told her Paris was the capital of France and no word of a lie, she looked at me absolutely gone out

I'm in Derbyshire and it's common, had no idea people wouldn't know what it meant!

Memo7 · 07/01/2022 20:51

It means looking at someone who you think is saying something crazy / mad / not right 😂
Or not understanding what someone’s saying to you so you are looking at them confused

Whistleforthechoir · 07/01/2022 20:51

@ToJabOrNotToJab

West Midlands. Means looking at someone as if to say, 'Seriously?!'
This.

It means looking at someone like they've gone mad, they've said/done something crazy
