My friend says it all the time but I’ve never heard anyone else say it here. I just realised her parents are from Northampton. Would it be from there?

@Delatron

I’m from West Yorkshire and I’ve never heard this expression. None of my family or friends use it. How strange! Maybe it’s more a midlands thing and been adopted in certain areas of Yorkshire but I don’t think it’s a Yorkshire thing. Or maybe more S.Yorkshire.

I see lots on here from Yorkshire have never heard it.

I am too and I am familiar with it BUT I have a lot of friends from over T’Border so I think it’s more of a North West thing than Yorkshire
BigYellowHat · 08/01/2022 17:23

Doesn’t make sense. Although I’m from the South West and there’s plenty of phrases from round here that people wouldn’t really get 😂

Riddo · 08/01/2022 17:37

My Dad says it, he was brought up in Leicestershire.

TurquoiseDragon · 08/01/2022 17:50

@Spudlet

Pretty common in Leicestershire too
Yes, it is.
germsandcoffee · 08/01/2022 17:59

West Yorkshire and I know loads that say it

Ploppy1322 · 08/01/2022 18:00

West Midlands, especially Coventry!

Evenstar · 08/01/2022 18:12

My family originated in Yorkshire so I was familiar with it but I have also lived in Nottingham and Leicester and it was said there too. My friend at university was from Derby and also used it.

WeAreTheHeroes · 08/01/2022 19:47

Just asked DP and he is familiar with the phrase (Leicestershire) and said, "yeah, I looked at him all gone out" and pulled a shocked face. Who knew!

shinynewapple21 · 08/01/2022 22:59

@Rillette

My favourite weird Midlands slang is 'mowed out' (sounds like cow). If a shop is mowed out it is full of people.

I don't know this .

seperatedmum · 09/01/2022 01:23

Nottingham when I get up there

NeverSurrender · 09/01/2022 01:35

Common in Lincolnshire, as is " duck " and "mardy/Mard on". I hadn't realised gone out was regional!

JanglyBeads · 09/01/2022 01:49

@SquigglePigs

Common phrase growing up in Cambridgeshire.
I grew up ther and have never heard it in my life!

Do you maybe mean in the Fens, I imagine there maybe different phrases there?

WildImaginings · 09/01/2022 02:00

@DanceForeverUnderTheLights

*57Letitsnoooow* In South Wales we would say, ‘looked at him gone off’ which is what I thought you meant to say. Not heard of ‘gone out'

Same

Same, Wales here too and I'd say 'She looked at him gone off'.

Also say cheers drive Grin

YukoandHiro · 09/01/2022 02:01

Derbyshire - my grandma said it a lot

CalmConfident · 09/01/2022 07:30
