... I am eating a cheese toastie that I made in the frying pan and I can't believe it took me so long to do this. I learnt this on MN and I can't remember who the poster was but thank you. Thankyou

For those asking about double baked potato, I bake the potatoes as normal, cut them in half and scoop out the insides into a bowl. Mash it a bit then stir in some grated cheese (you can add whatever, I sometimes chop and fry some bacon and stir that in as well). Spoon the potato/cheese/bacon mix back into the skins, sprinkle with a bit more grated cheese and put back in the oven or under the grill until cheese on top is melted.

I grew up in the states so always did in pan, buttered the bread first. Mayo sounds interesting - I may give this a go!

HeyUpits2022 · 08/01/2022 09:16

goddammit! I'm at Saturday morning swimming lessons and am now desperate for a cheese toastie.

BeyondMyWits · 08/01/2022 09:25

We have egg fried sandwiches. Usually have family round on Sunday, so Monday there might be a couple of sandwiches left over to be soaked in beaten egg and fried.

Best is paté. Good for Christmas leftovers.

Baked potatoes- pretty much the same pp. cook in oven, scoop out middle and mix with cheese, finely chopped spring onion and a bit of whole grain mustard. Sprinkle a little more cheese on top. Return to oven until the skins are crispy and the inside is a goey loveliness!

liveforsummer · 08/01/2022 11:12

I discovered there a couple of years ago now and whilst they are superior for average sandwich filings they are no good if you want to add beans/spaghetti hoops etc. You need the old triangle type for that

liveforsummer · 08/01/2022 11:16

In a sandwich toaster. And not with butter on the outside.

@EmmaH2022 you don't put butter on the outside of your toastie machine toasties? No wonder you found them lacking!

Inspired by this thread I have just made myself one. Every day's a school day: total game changer!

well now it's double baked potatoes for me. I'm living on the memories of that toasted cheese sandwich at the moment

GOD.

Thank you, Thank you 😊, Thank you 😁

Absolutely delicious.

One dc has tuna sweetcorn mayo in his double bake potatoes as he doesn't like cheese.
He also likes that.

Rummikub · 09/01/2022 23:09

Just made a grilled cheese and scoffed it.
I had to melt the butter in pan and put the sandwich on.
Tasty but feel a bit ill now. Tastes so much better than from a toastie maker

stevalnamechanger · 09/01/2022 23:27

Yes with chilli jam in 😍

stevalnamechanger · 09/01/2022 23:27

@Balula

If you think that's magical, try putting one in the air fryer 👌🏻👌🏻
How long for and do I need to oil it or something ??
Dillidalli · 09/01/2022 23:43

Why is everything better with cheese? Fish, boring, add cheese….amazing!
Potato? Boring, add cheese….awesomness!
Chips? Meh, add cheese……mind blown!!

Beetle76 · 09/01/2022 23:49

Butter on the inside, Mayo on the outside 🤤

YourenutsmiLord · 10/01/2022 07:58

Why is everything better with cheese?
I don't think it is - can't understand why a burger needs cheese unless it is a measly tasteless burger that needs cheddar to add salt.
Cheese surely swamps the flavour of fish.
Chips ? no way

Just done this thanks for the tip 😄
