Having pets instead of children is selfish

According to the pope

"Couples who do not procreate deny themselves the joys of parenthood, a decision which “diminishes us, takes away our humanity”, he said.

As he isn't a parent he has no right to say this IMO. What a knob.

And they deny themselves stress and being skint!

ZoeTheThornyDevil · 06/01/2022 17:08

I mean. You know he's rather famously a Catholic, right? Their entire religion is openly in favour of getting knocked up as frequently as you possibly can. This is not a new or secret view.

Mrsjayy · 06/01/2022 17:10

I mean the head of the Catholic Church advocating procreation who woulda thought Wink

Legomania · 06/01/2022 17:11

Head of famously procreation-focused religion in 'encouraging followers to procreate' shocker

I know the Catholic stance on having baby after baby, but I hadn't heard his views about pets.

Remember every sperm is sacred....

Metallicalover · 06/01/2022 17:12

I don't know why your surprised OP. He's head of the Catholic Church that doesn't agree with contraception!

CaveMum · 06/01/2022 17:13

Said the world’s most famous virgin…

Thingsdogetbetter · 06/01/2022 17:13

A man whose religion/job prevents him becoming part of a couple and procreating it's a tad hypocritical! Lol.

WheelieBinPrincess · 06/01/2022 17:13

Well arguably keeping animals as pets (bar cats and dogs) is quite selfish but that has nothing to do with having children or not.

WeTheSheeple · 06/01/2022 17:13

Well it is selfish isn’t it, choosing not to share the burden of the perpetuation of your own species.

Annaghgloor · 06/01/2022 17:13

Why does this surprise anyone?

He's also criticised parents who choose to have only one child, but again, that's entirely in line with the orthodox Catholic position. Which, mercifully, most Catholics take not a blind bit of notice of now.

lljkk · 06/01/2022 17:14

News Shocker! The Pope is Old-fashioned. Who knew?

I don't understand why ppl are so offended. Unless you're observant Catholic -- maybe. Can't you just ignore his opinion? Lots of Catholics use birth control or live in sin, etc. He's not advocating that the selfish be denied communion or any consequence, is he?

periwinklepetals · 06/01/2022 17:17

Holy shit (see what I did there?) Grin

Anyway, another embarrassment for the Church. I’m Christian and I’m fed up of being humiliated by other Christians. The Pope has pissed me off!!

periwinklepetals · 06/01/2022 17:19

These replies are cheering me up though & now I’m singing “every sperm is sacred” 😂

AlternativePerspective · 06/01/2022 17:19

When the aids crisis was at its peak in the 80’s, one of the biggest issues was to persuade many people in Africa to wear condoms, since many believed that it was the white man wanting to stop the black man having children.

But with the many charities who had local workers and could go into many of the communities and educate re AIDS etc things did start to change.

Then the pope (not this one obviously but a different one as was then,) came over for a visit, I can’t remember which country it was he visited, but he made a statement that people shouldn’t be wearing condoms since condoms are contraception and it is wrong to use contraception.

There was absolute outcry since his statement had undone a lot of the work which had been put in.

3peassuit · 06/01/2022 17:20

So not having kids is selfish. Hypocritical from an organisation that fetishises virginity.

Tinsellittis · 06/01/2022 17:20

Bless him.

Maybe time to release his budgies and get procreating?

Babies in little Pope hats more gut he adorable.

Bluebluemoon · 06/01/2022 17:24

He better hope he never has the desire to get himself a little cat then.

In a vastly overpopulated world surely people who have children are the selfish ones? Especially those who have more than one as it really is only fulfilling the parents selfish desire to have more rather than benefitting anyone? The first one fulfils the desire to be a parent so anything after that is pure greed!
I myself have 4 and think I'm probably pretty selfish! 😂

CovidCorvid · 06/01/2022 17:25

Maybe being religious instead of having kids is selfish. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Annaghgloor · 06/01/2022 17:27

There's an image I won't be able to scrub from my mind for a long time.

Papal budgies. Grin

Phrenologistsfinger · 06/01/2022 17:28

@WeTheSheeple it’s not always a bloody choice! Some of us are infertile! Hmm

Bluebluemoon · 06/01/2022 17:28

As he isn't a parent he has no right to say this IMO

He does have a right to voice his opinion though.

I don't understand why ppl are so offended

I don't see people who are offended, just people who don't agree or find it a silly thing to say.
