If so what is your job please?

I absolutely hate my job, there must be people who enjoy going to work. If you are one of these lucky people then please tell me what you do and why you enjoy your work.

I have the most AMAZING job. It is very badly paid and it’s completely unique to me and does not actually exist and would never be advised.

I started out as a teaching assistant/ pupil support assistant in our local primary school. I am trained as a secondary school teacher so i’m comfortable in in a school environment.

I had a massive health crisis and was introduced slowly back into the school environment by helping out in the office..

OMG THIS IS MY WORLD. I know every child and every parent in the school. I also knew some stuff from a past life - now I do web admin and YouTube admin.

I have the most amazing life - the authorities and the inspectors want proof of communication with parents and community involvement - I have a brilliant website and community presence etc

hennipenni · 03/01/2022 22:24

I’m an ambulance care assistant, love my job, no two days are the same. Rubbish wages but I work with a fantastic team and get to drive an ambulance. Win win!

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 03/01/2022 22:24

Oh I should absolutely say that I am paid little more than minimum wage but I am extremely lucky that my husband is very well paid so I have the luxury of having a job I love that pays very little

GrumpyLivesInMyHouseNow · 03/01/2022 22:27

Love my job, enjoy the work, have a great work life balance, loads of flexibility and get paid a decent wage. My colleagues are great too. I'm a Service Delivery Manager for an IT company

OhWhyNot · 03/01/2022 22:30

I love my job

Management in forensic mental health rehabilitation

But at the moment the extra pressure of staff shortages is getting to me

lomoloko · 03/01/2022 22:38

I think it's more than just the job title. I changed my role last year and I'm still working in the same field but now I LOVE my job, whereas before I just sort of endured it and was glad it had no heavy lifting.

What's different? 1) I have more responsibility but also more power. I decide what to do and how to do it. I don't have to carry out someone else's plans/promises. 2) I'm closer to the outcome -- what I do really matters to real people I actually speak to. So I know what I'm doing and why, each day. 3) My boss is supportive but hands-off. My last boss was a nice person but a micromanager who couldn't imagine anyone else could contribute anything but more time to carry out tasks.

I am so much better at this job than my last one. So much. And I love it!! I have never loved my job before. I never expected to love it.

Me. NHS admin. My dream job and I've been at the same venue for 30 years.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 03/01/2022 22:51

I adore my job.

I run my own dog walking and pet care business - I've been closed for the Christmas break and can't wait to see my four-legged friends tomorrow? Smile

TitoMojito · 03/01/2022 22:54

I like my job! I don’t earn mega bucks but I WFH (it's a home based office job, I'm not in an MLM or anything Grin) and all my colleagues are lovely. Work itself is super interesting. Can't afford lots of luxuries but I don't lie awake at night dreading the next day of work like I used to and honestly, that's worth it for me.

kittyboomboom · 03/01/2022 22:54

@fizzypiggy

I work in PR and I do love my job. It's fun and challenging but also I have 0 degrees or professional qualifications and I earn decent money (40k and I'm under 30)
What industry do you PR in?

I work in PR too but currently out of love with my industry so maybe need a switch.

ElectraBlue · 03/01/2022 23:04

Don't like mine anymore. I have worked for charities for about 20 years now. Currently managing teams and projects for an organisation that supports people with mental health issues. Sounds good on paper but I have lost my motivation and interest in the job entirely. I think I am going to coast a bit more until Covid hopefully resolves itself then I will leave.

giggly · 03/01/2022 23:05

CAMHS nurse and love it

fizzypiggy · 03/01/2022 23:30

@kittyboomboom I work agency side but DTC brands so a range of industries

BlwyddynNewydd2022 · 03/01/2022 23:34

I work for the 3rd sector, supporting vulnerable people in the community. I do everything from housing, to benefits, to addiction and more.

I thoroughly enjoy it , no two days are the same , I'm out and about in the community and I really do get a feeling that my job is worthwhile.

It's flexible, my employer is wonderful and as a lone parent I couldn't ask for more, the pay is also great. No I'm not on a six figure salary but I live within my means and have no money worries whatsoever.

Tormundsbeard · 03/01/2022 23:38

Love my job in TV production.
Being part of a team where everyone has different skills but works towards the same goal. And everyone cares and does their best.
Stressful but fun.

thetinsoldier · 04/01/2022 00:16

Me. Freelance copyeditor and proofreader.

1967buglet · 04/01/2022 00:38

Loved being a university professor teaching history…taught university 30 years, but was happy to retire recently as the higher eduation sector has been in a bit of a crisis lately and working conditions were deteriorating. Still researching, writing and publishing though…I’ll do that till the day I die.

Snowisfalling33 · 04/01/2022 00:48

@Ste23321 I'm a teacher too, I teach a group of ASC children in a special unit.
I absolutely love it although it's hard work and tiring at times. At least there's never a dull moment and I have done stories to tell.
I'm lucky I think though in that SEND teaching has more flexibility around the curriculum than mainstream and also that I work in a great school where the management actually care about the staff. That makes all the difference!

GinJeanie · 04/01/2022 01:13

Teacher in an SEN school - I absolutely adore working with the kids. Working a 60 hour week, not so much! Am planning to reduce my hours in my late 50s before I keel over 😳...

Dizzyhedgehog · 04/01/2022 07:17

I love my job. Its great fun. I'm a primary teacher. :) I've been working in KS1 and 2 for nearly 20 years, currently teach Y1.
However, I work at an independent school abroad. Pay and conditions are better, I can easily stick to my 40 hours per week, it's more family friendly, less stressful and I'm allowed and trusted to just do my job. I'm good at what I'm doing. I was very good in the UK, too (outstanding according to Ofsted)...but my God was it annoying to be surrounded by people who could only ever focus on the next inspection, tedious and pointless paperwork, putting colleagues down to make themselves look better.
I wouldn't return to teaching in the UK.

EishetChayil · 04/01/2022 07:29

I love my job. I'm a writer, editor and translator. Took 15 years of hard slog to build up a client base, but it was worth it.

JustUseTheDoorSanta · 04/01/2022 07:38

I love my job. I'm a self-employed IT consultant. Due to experience I can choose my clients, tasks, hours etc and it's well paid. It's taken many years of long working hours to build up the experience and contacts, as well as professional training and mentoring from some great people, so not something that can just be walked into. Lower level jobs have less flexibility initially, but are more accessible and you can build up. There are tens of thousands of open IT, finance and other professional jobs right now, so if you can target your CV at any open roles then now's the time to try.

camperqueen54 · 04/01/2022 07:54

I'm a senior lecturer in a university. I love it about 95% of the time.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 04/01/2022 08:20

I am a nuclear physicist/engineer. I love my job. It is intellectually stimulating and the pay is good.
I posted on your other thread, @Ste23321 as I also used to teach and made my escape 5/6 years ago.

toomuchturmericinwatermelon · 04/01/2022 08:36

Pastoral/Mental Health Support in a secondary school. I love working with adolescents so much, and being there to support their mental health. However, the environment is beyond toxic and the so called team I am supposed to be a part of is unsupportive and dysfunctional. Quite ironic really bearing in mind the work that we do!!
