Elle Darby's old tweets

197 replies

AdultCat · 02/01/2022 23:16

I don't follow Elle Darby but am aware of her on Instagram. I came across her on TikTok after loads of her old tweets have been shared. So hateful and angry, the tweets are really nasty.
Has anyone else seen them? She's turned all her comments off and seems to be staying quiet!

OP posts:
Lacedwithgrace · 03/01/2022 21:18

Ah the racist apologist has arrived! Elle, no matter how old she was said some horrific things and brushed it off in an instagram story saying "soz babes xo yay 2022" Anyone who thinks it can be forgotten about has clearly never been a target of such abuse.

@SuperWoofing

God I hate the current fashion of self righteous mobs finding someone who's said something awful on twitter (like thousands of people do every day..) and then frothing and hounding them. Just ignore her + she'll go away. God it's like some people haven't left school. And the mob members always say "I don't agree with cancelling people but this person must be cancelled".
The fact that she, as a 15, 16, 17 year old, felt confident enough in her (awful) opinions to broadcast them to the internet is bad. But childishness can be forgiven to a degree. Hopefully she's learned the lesson that blatant racism, xenophobia, disablism, homophobia etc isn't acceptable (and wasn't eight or ten years go either and especially not to put online when you aspire to be a celebrity.

The fact that she hasn't had the nouse to go back, check what is acceptable and delete them, or have her management (which is gleam, so as far as management goes, is pretty large) do it, is pretty basic and stupid though.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2022 21:26

@SuperWoofing

No, I've never heard of this woman, I posted what I meant, which is I find groups of (presumably adults since you're on Mumsnet) forming online mobs to try and destroy people quite disturbing. If a teenager commits a crime do you think they should have that hanging over them for the rest of their lives or would you hope they mature, realise what they did was wrong and move on? Seriously, your behaviour is fucked up, and you all feed off each others self righteous fury. Horrible.
Online mob? It's a thread on a parenting forum. Hardly sending her abusive messages is it?

I find it interesting that you're more bothered about what we're saying than you are about her vile tweets. Actually yes I do think people should be held accountable for disgusting things they do when they're 17, brushing it under the carpet is essentially saying it's fine and not a problem. There were many, many tweets of abuse towards people of various ethnicities and nationalities, it wasn't just a one off. That shows deep rooted hatred.

@CallMeNutribullet

I'm not of the opinion that nasty things said on social media when you're a child should ruin your life, which would include ruining your career.
Her career revolves around what she posts on social media, of course this should ruin this career for her. Hopefully she can find something where she doesn't have access to lots of young, impressionable followers and make money from posting fakery.
SuperWoofing · 03/01/2022 21:29

I am not Elle, I have not read any of her tweets, but it doesn't surprise me that you come out with crap that that when you're clearly in full on mob mode, no dissent allowed, nothing other than this appalling person should never be allowed any peace again.

I'm going to leave you to it, because I'm not interested in being your proxy victim. So have a lovely time burning today's witch.

EurghCobwebs · 03/01/2022 21:29

@Waxonwaxoff0

Don't know who she is so I've just looked her up. This is why I hate the worshipping of social media influencers. There is not one out there who I think is a decent person.
I thought it was just kids that idolised and followed these types of "influencers". Surely adults aren't??
Mrbay · 03/01/2022 21:30

she lives in our town and I have to chuckle at the photos taken in our local multi storey carpark - the whole place smells of piss and there she is trying to look cool!

She could have at least have said sorry in her apology but no just blamed it on being young. We've all been young once and knew how not to be nasty!

Skeumorph · 03/01/2022 21:31

Off topic but 26?!!! I just googled as had no idea who she is and she looks about ten years older 😲😲😲

SuperWoofing · 03/01/2022 21:33

@Waxonwaxoff0 you're right, it's a thread on a parenting forum involving posters wanting to destroy someone for tweets they made as a teenager. A parenting forum.

Bless your heart. This is a young woman who has thousands of followers, hundreds of thousands of followers. I'm absolutely sure that the hoards of Internet huns who think like you do will forgive and forget. I've done what I feel is right and unfollowed her. Realistically, I'm too old and too fat for that kind of ridiculousness anyway.
HNY2022mam · 03/01/2022 21:38

The who physiology of the the boards ‘critiquing’ social influencers interests me so much.

Calling someone out for racist tweets etc valid, but then why do people have to comment on their looks?

It’s an online extension of gossip and bitchyness that some people are like in real life.

If you haven't read any of the tweets then why have you replied to this thread. Read the tweets and then come back and tell me you are of the same opinion.

SuperWoofing · 03/01/2022 21:43

@HeyFloof well there you go, you've unfollowed her, problem solved and you can you can go to bed happy. Although if she's as unpleasant as she sounds maybe you should ask yourself why you were following her in the first place

2dogsandababy3 · 03/01/2022 21:44

Anyone else thing @SuperWoofing is actually Elle Shock

Haha maybe, although sadly lots of people don't see anything wrong with posting hateful tweets when they're 17 and then forging a career in social media it seems. I'm not sure what the relevance of it being a parenting forum is, people don't want to destroy her, but many feel it would be appropriate if she was deplatformed. The ideal would be brands don't work with her anymore and they leave social media and find a different career path. I agree its not nice to comment on someone's looks, but to be honest she's fairly damaging to young girls especially, she edits her photos, lies about her size and basically lives a fake life in order to make money from them, ew.

True indeed @SuperWoofing. Truth be told, I've not really been on IG or YouTube for a while.

I'm miserable generally at the moment though, absolutely nothing to do with Miss Elle Darby. What can I say though, such is life. 🤷🏻‍♀️

2dogsandababy3 · 03/01/2022 22:05

She filters pictures of her young child.

Thesearmsofmine · 03/01/2022 22:12

Her tweets are disgusting. The sheer amount of them is shocking, this isn’t a couple of off colour tweets or comments from her as a teen, it's a whole catalogue of hate from her and her partner too.

know of her and always thought she was more y age from

Thesearmsofmine · 03/01/2022 22:13

No idea what happened there,

I know of her from Instagram although I don’t follow and always thought she was more my age, shocked to see she is only mod 20’s. I guess that’s what overdoing fillers and filtering yourself does.

CSJobseeker · 03/01/2022 22:20

It's almost as if the exact sort of person who craves endless attention and expects a free ride in life is likely to have a poor moral compass and lack self control isn't it?

Exactly. The amoral (as distinct from immoral), vacuous influencer lifestyle attracts amoral, vacuous people. Who could have predicted it?

Influencers just shill for the highest bidder. They will do and say whatever will get them more followers and more money - not a single one of them is worth the attention or admiration of decent people.

CallMeNutribullet · 03/01/2022 22:29

I understand the anger, I genuinely do because the tweets are horrible but these kind of Internet pile ons really concern me, especially when they relate to things said a decade ago by a teenager.

So she's "cancelled" because products understandably will no longer want to be associated with her. What then? If she gets a day job is it legitimate to complaint to her place of work and get her sacked?

I suppose I feel this way because I've seen other examples happenings in the US which are really worrying eg a business which employs hundreds of people going bust because the guy's daughter tweeted a load of racist things several years before and don't want to see us going the same way in the UK.

mm40 · 03/01/2022 22:35

Be fair - she does say she’s sorry…. Because that ALWAYS makes it OK.

If she left social media people wouldn't be arsed what she went on to do I don't think. She was 17 at the time and then made comments on some videos several years later, she also evidently didn't think much was wrong with them to leave up for so long, even if you can't get into your twitter you can request they close it. This was 50 plus tweets and her and management have deleted loads of videos and photos so probably had other stuff that towed the line.
Sharpie0870 · 03/01/2022 23:22

She's a disgrace.

Stepmonstera · 04/01/2022 07:23

Is it possible to change your entire mindset in 5 or 10 years from believing youre so superior to literally everyone else that you'll make racist, homophobic, disablist and fat shaming comments without impunity all over social media, or is it more likely that this is in fact her world view? I don't believe people can do such a massive shift in perspective. I think if she believed all those things then, she probably believes them now. Otherwise she would have been ashamed and deleted them before now. She is just looking out for herself and her "career".
