Mistaken acronyms. Mine is CBT.

Bit embarrassing but here goes..
Whenever I see the acronym cbt I immediately think ‘cock and ball torture.’ The acronym is used a lot on here, but for some reason my brain doesn’t associate it with cognitive behavioural therapy. It makes me laugh at some of the threads when cbt is advised though!
Anyone else associate an acronym with a less common or funny meaning?

@ShinyPikachu

When my children were younger I often got mixed up with BM being either breast milk or bowel movement especially in a post like "DC hasn't had BM today".

NC being name change or non-contact sometimes gets me too but more in thread titles as it's usually obvious in the context of the post.

One of my hobbies is diamond painting and people shorten it to DP in groups, like the PP I see double penetration for that one every time instead. Blush

Yes on the DP, I have a friend who used to "love a bit of DP" (Dorothy Perkins) and it used to make me giggle when she said that.

BF - are we talking boyfriend, best friend or breastfeeding. Sometimes even reading the posts don’t make it clear.

On Mumsnet when people talk about GPs - could be grandparents, guinea pigs or the doctor!

@Firefliess

I do feel a bit sorry for the Oxford academics and graduates of their PPE course. PPE meant their politics, philosophy and economics degree program to me and many others until covid came. Now everyone must think they have degrees in using masks and rubber gloves!
PPE for me was personal protective equipment. However new job its prepaid envelope.

@Fatgalslim

I work in construction so whenever I see PPE it means hard hat, hi vis vest, boots and gloves
I used to teach health and social care and one of the units was health and safety, you could tell the students who were actually studying from the ones that were, well, not by what they wrote about PPE.

You don't normally need a hard hat on a hospital ward.

The other bit they wrote about that could be interesting was 'health surveillance' so things like the film badges that show how much radiation you are exposed to or what happens if a member of staff gets something like Norovirus.

I would find myself reading about soviet era microfilm.

@Nathlash Dara O'Briain talks about adapting his act for when he tours the UK and Ireland and one of the things he forgot was NCT, so he was talking about going with his wife to the NTC and the audience were thinking, "why would you do that?"
