Mistaken acronyms. Mine is CBT.

Bit embarrassing but here goes..
Whenever I see the acronym cbt I immediately think ‘cock and ball torture.’ The acronym is used a lot on here, but for some reason my brain doesn’t associate it with cognitive behavioural therapy. It makes me laugh at some of the threads when cbt is advised though!
Anyone else associate an acronym with a less common or funny meaning?

@GoodnightGrandma

LFT always used to be liver function test for me. Now it something different. And there’s a person near me with a private reg of NSU, which is an STD to me !
Growing up in Australia, STD was ‘subscriber trunk dialling’ which was non-local phone calls….

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

DH sometimes fills me in (or let's off steam) so I know a bit about the goings on in his office. For months I thought he had a colleague called Cos. It fitted in with the other nicknames etc....

Apparently Cos is Chief of Staff...

If you work in accounts it is 'cost of sales'.
GunsNShips · 03/01/2022 11:32

Another one who got STBXH confused……in my case I always read Stupid Bastard Ex Husband.

Often true anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️😃

ohfook · 03/01/2022 11:39

When people abbreviate William and Kate (on the royal family threads) to W&K I always think 'wank' in my head.

Nathlash · 03/01/2022 11:39

I haven’t found it hard at all, I’ll be honest, but then having family around for free childcare, and/or night or weekend babysitting was never something I thought was to be expected. I saw living in another country to my family as normal, and had a child in those circumstances on the full understanding that all childcare would be paid for from the moment I returned to work from maternity leave, and that weekends away would include DS.

Lol = Lots of love 💕

😄

NinaDefoe · 03/01/2022 11:43

@Andtheyalllookjustthesame

I've had some lols 😂 at people who thought lol was lots of love 💕 not laugh out loud and have thus laughed at people unknowingly in various situations when it would be utterly unsuitable
You posted before me!

Yes, ‘I’m so sorry for your loss, I’m here if you need me. Lol x’

@Omicrone

If you have been a teacher in the last 15 years or so you will know all about G and T Smile (Although I don't think its used any more is it?)
No- it's AMA now (academically more able) which in here means Ask Me Anything!!
Redcrayons · 03/01/2022 12:03

@DropYourSword
GC on Mumsnet = Gender critical
GC in showbizland = Gemma Collins, although I believe she calls herself The GC.

Chunkymenrock · 03/01/2022 12:03

Gender critical, I think!

Chunkymenrock · 03/01/2022 12:06

PCSO (police) I always reas as PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)!

Pucarbuile · 03/01/2022 12:10

ED always gets me on here, it could be erectile dysfunction, eating disorder, emotional damage, educational differences...

And then all the ones posters make up for themselves mid post/thread, so I have to go searching back to figure out what they are talking about.

riotlady · 03/01/2022 12:12

DP= double penetration

Always had to type partner out in full before we were married!

Magnited · 03/01/2022 12:28

DH = Dickhead

UseOfWeapons · 03/01/2022 12:34

PR…to me it doesn’t mean public relations, it means per rectum.
I have a momentary mental gasp when people describe themselves as a PR consultant, or that something is ‘good PR’…mind boggling!

NinaDefoe · 03/01/2022 12:35

Me too!!!
NinaDefoe · 03/01/2022 12:36

GC on Mumsnet = Gender critical

Well there you go. I thought it was Grandchildren

LyraVega · 03/01/2022 12:40

Came here to say this one!
amusedbush · 03/01/2022 12:41

Mumsnet has ruined me with the abbreviations. I was watching a medical drama and the doctor said he had a ‘CF patient’ and I though ‘well, that’s rude!’ until I realised it was cystic fibrosis Blush

MaudebeGonne · 03/01/2022 12:42

AMA: Advanced Maternal Age

VE: did used to mean Viewer Enquiries in my previous job. Now means Vaginal Exam.

billycat321 · 03/01/2022 12:42

STD used to mean Subscriber Trunk Dialling, introduced to replace making calls via a telephone operator. Now it means Sexually Transmitted Disease, former called VD

MrsGface · 03/01/2022 13:26

I’m Irish. Working in the US, I would frequently get reminders to check in on my IRA (Individual Retirement Account) Confused

ShinyPikachu · 03/01/2022 13:40

When my children were younger I often got mixed up with BM being either breast milk or bowel movement especially in a post like "DC hasn't had BM today".

NC being name change or non-contact sometimes gets me too but more in thread titles as it's usually obvious in the context of the post.

One of my hobbies is diamond painting and people shorten it to DP in groups, like the PP I see double penetration for that one every time instead. Blush

tectonicplates · 03/01/2022 13:49

@Magnited

DH = Dickhead
I mean, that's probably true for some of the husbands described on here.
ItsAlwaysThere · 03/01/2022 13:50

Oh my god, me too, and it horrifies me every time my brain does this.
