Oh I’m so glad my Christmas tree and decorations are away!

Just took all my Christmas lights and decorations down today. All packed away for 11 months.

I love Christmas and I love getting the lights up but I just feel really fed up with it now and I was sick looking at my decorations. I was going to keep them up to tomorrow but I just thought no way, I’m going to have to take them down today.

I’m hoping in 11 months time I’ll be ready to put them back up again!

Anyone else the same?

We took our decorations down today too and it felt good!

MerryChristmas21 · 02/01/2022 18:03

Nope. I love having them up & the lights on!!

Unfortunately I didn't manage to get them all out this year (I had an accident a few months ago & still not got all my mobility back & having physio therapy on upper body to see what movement I can get back (and I live alone).

Not looking forward to packing it all up either!!

No I feel like it looks all bare now! I miss the cosy fairy lights

I also feel all weirdly melancholy when putting them away… like who knows what might happen between now and when I get them out again. What losses or major events might have occurred, hoping that we’re all still here fit and well. Is that weird?

I took my Christmas tree down on the 27th! But we have a small front room and it blocks a cupboard so it was good to get the space back.

We don't have masses of decorations, just the tree, some lights in the window and a wreath on the door. Just took the wreath down today, I'll leave the lights up for a couple more days.

Threads like this make me feel the same way all the "I've put the Christmas decs up! Show me your tree!" posters on 1 December feel about the grumps saying "It's not Christmas yet!" You're harshing my festivities, dude. It's still Christmas until 12th night.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/01/2022 18:17

I feel better when they are down but the house does look a bit bare.

Oh there’s no way I could bear having my decs up any longer! They were starting to drive me round the bend Grin

I should take mine down but I can't be bothered. It will have to be tomorrow.

Sagegreenvelvet · 02/01/2022 18:18

Same here. Carefully packed everything away today -and dragged out the tree for collection. House feels enormous and calm. Bought some flowers and cleaned so feel like I’m ready to welcome the new year.

Oblomov21 · 02/01/2022 18:19

It's all very well saying 12th night, but I'm back to work Tuesday 4th, as is Dh, and ds's to school, so tomorrow is the last convenient day.

I think I might do that tomorrow - will maybe nip to M&S and buy a lovely bouquet and buy a lovely wintery Yankee Candle to keep the house a bit brighter in the absence of the decs

Took ours down New Year’s Eve. Don’t always do this but just decided to this year and glad we did. All done and dusted ready for kids back to school and returning to work. It works for us. There’s no right or wrong, do what works for you!

OhamIreally · 02/01/2022 18:24

Was wondering whether to take mine down today but I didn't put them up til 18th so having one last night with the tree up and lights on.

LondonQueen · 02/01/2022 18:25

I took mine down today too, I'm relieved as I hate the mess! My DC not so much...

This is exactly how I felt! Almost like an anxiety? Just think of all the amazing/happy things that could also happen!
DappledThings · 02/01/2022 18:26

Nope. Never before Twelfth Night. Feels too wrong to take them down early and as today is only the day for the 9 ladies dancing with 3 days to go it's definitely early.

If I had to take them down early I wouldn't put them up at all.

Tippexy · 02/01/2022 18:27

Twelfth Night here, as is tradition.

traka · 02/01/2022 18:28

Took our's down on the 27th. No point dragging it out, it's done, move on

runsmidgeOMG · 02/01/2022 18:28

I could have written this earlier as I was saying some questionable non family friendly language whilst detangling the lights off the tree and then holding the ladder for DP whilst he got the outdoor lights down (in the rain !)

Bloody love Christmas, I hate the taking down !!!

Exactly this!

It does feel rather dark in here now...but also so large! Xmas Grin

Mogloveseggs · 02/01/2022 18:30

Took ours down today then moved the front room round. Got it all straight and candles and fairy lights on. Still cosy Smile

KnottyKnitting · 02/01/2022 18:31

We only put ours up on the 18th so not too fed up of them yet but will take them down tomorrow as I hate coming back from work on the first day back after the Christmas break with decorations still up.

Horsemad · 02/01/2022 18:31

DH usually insists the tree & decs are kept up until 12th Night, whereas I prefer them down before NYE.

This year, our (real) tree started smelling musty because it was drying out, so DH took it & the decs down on 31st. It felt so good to have the house all clean & tidy for NY; I'm hoping this is now our new normal! 👍

Firstshoes · 02/01/2022 18:31

Ive just ordered some warm white all year round lights for the fireplace, bought some new candles and flowers. Softens the blow of decs coming down

How long have they been up?
