Oh I’m so glad my Christmas tree and decorations are away!

Just took all my Christmas lights and decorations down today. All packed away for 11 months.

I love Christmas and I love getting the lights up but I just feel really fed up with it now and I was sick looking at my decorations. I was going to keep them up to tomorrow but I just thought no way, I’m going to have to take them down today.

I’m hoping in 11 months time I’ll be ready to put them back up again!

Anyone else the same?

Me too! I feel so much better! I left the lights in the bedroom, though!

Ours came down today too. Everything looks dark, sad and empty after the decorations come down, so last year I bought myself this. I decorate it with eggs for Easter.

Some cheeky bastard chucked their tree over and into our field sometime during the night. Just whizzed it right over the fence as if we're gonna be really grateful for it.

Not mad about I'm just amazed at what goes through some people's mind.

I was told it was bad luck to take them down early

bumblingbovine49 · 03/01/2022 07:28

I only put the tree up on the 20th Dec so it has barely been up 2 weeks and I'm am not sick of it yet but I'll take it down today because I need the space back for working from home again from tomorrow, otherwise I'd leave it up until 12th night on the 6th January as usual

We don't have many decorations up, just a few lights inside and out which I might leave up for the whole of January

Moomarre · 03/01/2022 07:44

We’ve taken everything but the trees down. We have a lot out (12 crates full) so it’s easier to do it over a few days. It always feels a bit sad and bare when it’s all down.

@User2638483

No I feel like it looks all bare now! I miss the cosy fairy lights

I also feel all weirdly melancholy when putting them away… like who knows what might happen between now and when I get them out again. What losses or major events might have occurred, hoping that we’re all still here fit and well. Is that weird?

I know what you mean. I feel really melancholy at this time of year anyway (January is my least favourite month of the year) and the house looks so bare and cheerless without the lights and decorations. The decorations mostly will be down on the 6th, but the nativity set until Candlemas and our room lights will be staying up all winter....

Also get the wondering about what might happen- a few years ago I had an overwhelming feeling when we were celebrating Christmas at my parents that this would be the last year that we would be all together- my mother died the following September.

I'm taking down the bulk of them today but DH will do the tree and outside lights on Wednesday.
I think I'm going to leave some fairy lights in the fireplaces though and also a few strands hanging from the patio doors - just to give a little twinkle.

DinosApple · 03/01/2022 09:49

I wonder about the future too, more so on NYE though. 2022 feels like a year of change for us. I need a better paid job as DH will probably be given the push this year so I'm a bit anxious about everything already.

Our cards and tinsel round the pictures will come down today. Tree will be up until tomorrow or Friday.

Wreath on the door will be up until Candlemas, but I'll probably remove the baubles and put dried fruit instead.

Oblomov22 · 03/01/2022 11:58

Just finished putting them away. Goodness I hate that job more than I hate any job I can currently think of.

dayswithaY · 04/01/2022 08:14

I took mine down yesterday. I've got a silver fairy that sits at the top, had her for years. As I wrapped her up in tissue I whispered "Please let us be in a better place the next time I see you."

Like a lot of people, it feels weird thinking about what could happen between now and the next time the decs come out.
