What do think about Postmen working on a Sunday?

Just seen Royal Mail vans out on Sunday! Apparently this is a permanent thing delivering parcels. What do think about Postman working on Sunday’s if they wish too?

I think it's fine if they want to but feel a bit sorry for those that don't, but have to do the new shifts. Also anyone working in this rainstorm we are having here right now!

BlackberrySky · 02/01/2022 15:10

It's the same as all the other jobs where people can work on Sundays, like retail, gyms, cinemas, restaurants, pilots, nurses. I think it's a great idea given the increased use of online shopping.

Bagadverts · 02/01/2022 15:11

I think it depends on whether it u or s genuinely voluntary. If it is there will be people that prefer to work Sundays with another day. Also wonder about choice for the other post workers such as sorters.

Would be interested to hear from people who work in post office.

Snowiscold · 02/01/2022 15:11

They’ve worked on Sundays for a while.

MajorCarolDanvers · 02/01/2022 15:12

Lots of people work on Sundays. 🤷‍♀️

Fizzbo · 02/01/2022 15:13

Lots of people work on a Sunday, supermarket staff, shop workers, nurses, clergy, hospitality workers. I don’t see postal workers as being any different to be honest.

FawnFrenchieMum · 02/01/2022 15:14

Parcels, it makes sense. They need to try and keep up with other companies. Standard post not needed.

MyPatronusIsASnowman · 02/01/2022 15:21

We've had Royal Mail delivering parcels on a Sunday for a while. I don't see it as any different to other parcel companies delivering today like Hermes just have with my parcel they've had for a month

AnotherMansCause · 02/01/2022 15:22

I used to work in financial services & we had to work 7 days a week. 8-8 Monday-Saturday. Only guaranteed days off were Christmas Day & Easter Sunday. It didn’t even pay very well, barely above minimum wage.

I do feel sorry for those who don’t want to work Sundays but, it’s a job. Not everyone can get one.

TooWicked · 02/01/2022 15:24

Why not, if they want to?

I'm sure it suits plenty of people to work Sundays for various reasons, childcare, etc.

maudmoon · 02/01/2022 15:30

Well as my husband is one I think it's bullshit. As do all the others in the depot. It's not enforced permanently everywhere yet. They have always had the option of working overtime on Sundays if they wish. This is to essentially take that away and make it a shift. My husband works, in theory, 6 in 8 Saturdays and wouldn't be happy doing it with Sundays as well.

HNY2022mam · 02/01/2022 15:30

Why is it something to have an opinion on?

maudmoon · 02/01/2022 15:31

He gets 2 days off in a row every 8 weeks as well so working Sundays still wouldn't guarantee having 2 days off in the week together.

Smurf1984 · 02/01/2022 15:38

Ps….not just postmen

MichaelGovesBeard · 02/01/2022 15:40

Why not? Are they super special and need to be protected from Sunday working?

girlmom21 · 02/01/2022 15:40

If they're happy to work I'm happy to receive parcels on a Sunday, same as if I go to a Carvery or pop to the supermarket or take the kids to soft play.

onedayoranother · 02/01/2022 15:41

As we only seem to get deliveries once a week (if that) I'd just like to see a postie period! I live in SW London and it's appalling here. I just received a magazine sent out four weeks ago, I haven't had any redirected post in over a month (we moved a few months ago) and I can't tell you how many people have asked if I got their Christmas card and the answer is no - I usually get about 40-50 and only 11 have made it.
Have no issues about Sunday deliveries, but doubt it will come round here.

roarfeckingroarr · 02/01/2022 15:45

Lots of people work Sundays. Other jobs are available.

CornishTiger · 02/01/2022 15:46

Had it for quite a while. Bit annoying as they come early when I’m getting a rare lie in.

Tbh we are moving towards a 24/7 society and I’d rather we weren’t.

Smurf1984 · 02/01/2022 15:46

Posties who’ve joined within the last 2 months now have it in their contract to work Sundays, this is countrywide so in time we will all see it.

Baffles me why someone is so perplexed seeing a postie on a Sunday?! Our office was running everyday but Christmas Day.

CornishTiger · 02/01/2022 15:47

I work bank holidays including Xmas day btw

TimBoothseyes · 02/01/2022 15:47

Why shouldn't they?

DickMabutt73962 · 02/01/2022 15:48

It's Sunday. I'm working.

I don't know what it is but I always find posts or comments about postal workers on here so patronising.

Smurf1984 · 02/01/2022 15:51

Heck….sure you’d be the first to complain if a red card was posted through your door and parcel returned to depot as the postie knocked down quietly and didn’t manage to wake you from your lie in 🙄 Sorry for the inconvenience of delivering the parcel you ordered…🤦🏼‍♀️
Chunkymenrock · 02/01/2022 15:51

I love working on a Sunday. It's a good idea.
