New Year's Honours list- all 3 knighted.
So very deserved. I am delighted for them, especially for Chris Whitty and JVT.

@Pedestriancrossing

Very well deserved for CW and JVT. I also like Tony Blair, under his PMship (and Gordon Brown) child poverty dropped, unlike the appalling record of the toxic self serving shites we have had since then.

The same Tony Blair that lied about weapons of mass destruction, which led to a war where soldiers lost their lives? (And repercussions ever since)

StormyCornishSeas · 01/01/2022 17:46

At the time I wasn't the biggest Tony Blair fan but I'd much rather Blair running the show at the moment than the buffoon we have at the moment

The same Tony B that was given misinformation by experts and the US intelligence and US government of the time, he wasn’t exactly hearing it from someone in the pub!
Yes mistakes were made but Thatcher went into a war which could have been solved diplomatically yet let’s all hate on TB forever! He helped bring much needed peace to N Ireland preventing many deaths how about remembering that!

I'm not so sure he was given misinformation. Read about Katherine gun.

Margaret thatcher is a very hated prime minister. She's certainly not been forgiven for very much

Really??

Tony Blair is the reason for what we have today. It's the natural result of his (terrible) legacy.

Tony Blair is a war criminal.

But he also profiteered to the tune of millions from the public health housing emergency that he so lovingly nurtured.

Thatcher might've introduced right to buy - one of the worse policies ever - but Blair very enthusiastically continued it. At the time he came in, 1997, it was impossible to claim it hadn't caused a huge amount of human misery and distress. But it wasn't too late to repair a lot of the damage. Blair instead took it further.

He severely restricted access to affordable housing by pushing any old Tom, Dick, and Harry (dodgy criminals included) to Buy to Let, at the same time as cutting benefits and launching a war on the disabled.

He also pursued mass immigration. Not a problem in itself - but he refused to provide the necessary additional infrastructure and housing to accommodate millions of new arrivals.

Today's public health housing and homelessness emergency is in very large part due to Blair (and Brown's housing benefit cuts).

As for the pandemic. Tony Blair is a man whose fetishisation of youth has led us to today's eugenics lite attitudes towards the elderly and young but disabled. 'Let the bodies pile up' stems from the days of Blair's war on the disabled.

Pedestriancrossing · 01/01/2022 18:41

I am disabled and would much rather live under a Tony Blair government than what we have now.

Pedestriancrossing · 01/01/2022 18:45

Do not imagine for one single second that a Tory government cares about the old, young, disabled, vulnerable or disadvantaged. They care about themselves and their friends. Anyway, back to knighthoods- glad to see hard work rewarded.

coffeerevelsrock · 01/01/2022 18:58

I love how Tony Blair is blamed for absolutely everything - what happened before his time, what has happened after it - all of it.

I wish to god he was in charge now and no, it is not his fault the absolute shit show the current government is making of everything now.

Tealightsandd · 01/01/2022 19:03

The disabled people I knew at the time suffered terribly after 1997.

Pedestrian I agree. But the situation today is the consequence of Tony Blair's war on the disabled. Those who came after simply followed in his footsteps. Cameron even called himself the heir to Blair.

DoubleShotEspresso · 01/01/2022 19:04

@Newyearoldyou

Blair didn't only falsify documents but apparently didn't want any police investigation/ into police failings around into Stephen Lawrence death AngryAngryAngry

Yay to Chris whitty but as for jenny harries??

Jenny harries has stood there and told us it's OK to mix (beginning of pandemic,) then said masks do fuck all.... Then tells everybody to stop mixing, wear masks.... Except people in school because covid doesn't bother with schools...

Disgusting if you ask me.

Disgusting and utterly disgraceful
awaynboilyurheid · 01/01/2022 19:25

Let the bodies pile up was Boris not Blair how you can shift the blame on to TB for this is totally and utterly ridiculous!

upinaballoon · 01/01/2022 21:02

@Newyearoldyou

Yy to dear Frank field.

A quiet humble man sadly viciously attacked by people from his own party but ironically the type of labour politicians really they need.

YES. Dear Frank Field. I haven't read further than page 3 yet and I hadn't heard or read that he has an award/honour. I will investigate.

Also, yes for Daniel Craig's! Nice touch.
