New Year's Honours list- all 3 knighted.
So very deserved. I am delighted for them, especially for Chris Whitty and JVT.

I wonder who the Queen would really choose if it were only her decision?

Justkeeppedaling · 31/12/2021 23:45

@SoupDragon

Chris Whitty?? Really? I wasn't aware he was a real person given his TV performances in those PSAs

What the hell does that mean? ShockHmm

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 31/12/2021 23:45

Surely now, at the very least, every single person in the country should now get a damehood or knighthood for 'services to NOT sending hundreds of thousands of people to their deaths on the back of a barefaced lie'?

I won't hold my breath, though.

ZoeTheThornyDevil · 31/12/2021 23:55

@Choux

I don't begrudge Whitty and JVT their knighthoods at all but it does seem to send out a signal that the pandemic is over. Sportspeople being rewarded for their achievements usually only receive the award at the end of their career. Given we are currently in the highest ever wave of cases with rising hospitalisations the pandemic is not over.

But congrats to them. (Jenny Harries I never warmed to as she always seemed like a Gov mouthpiece so I don't trust her as much)

The pandemic will never be "over" in that sense, any more than flu will ever be "over". Once we are past the risk of hospitals becoming overwhelmed, we'll go back to not knowing case numbers.

We have vaccines and treatments. The pandemic as it was in 2020 is over. Or it will never be over. Take your pick.

@caringcarer

I am just furious Tony Blaire got knighthood after falisfying documents to take us to war. Absolutely not deserved.
He achieved much more and with much more decency as PM than Cameron, May or Johnson did/will ever do. Those 3 will have their hands out waiting for honours. Blair is still a voice of intelligence in British politics.

Fantastic news

Had a great day at a party, just saw some amazing fireworks and now happy to hear this

LuluBlakey1 · 01/01/2022 00:10

Anyway, the point of the thread was to be positive so please can we try to be. Many people will deserve their honours- it would be good to ficus on them and not on grumbling and back-biting.

OP posts:
LuluBlakey1 · 01/01/2022 00:11

Or even focus as I am sure none of them want a weeping fig plant (ficus)

I’m so pleased to hear Chris Whitty is in it. If I wasn’t married to the love of my life and head over heels in love, I’d marry Chris 👍 Love him

eagerlywaitingfor · 01/01/2022 00:19

Dame Joanna Lumley!

Sandsnake · 01/01/2022 00:19

I like Tony Blair.

toomuchlaundry · 01/01/2022 00:26

There is a lovely young lad from Devon who has been sleeping in a tent for over 600 days raising money for the local hospice, who has been recognised in the honours list. He was given a tent from a neighbour who had received care from the hospice in his last few days, who told the boy to go and have an adventure. He has raised over £600k.

GameofPhones · 01/01/2022 00:27

Knighthood for Tony Blair devalues the whole thing.

Starcup · 01/01/2022 00:32

@Sandsnake

Eh?
mumwon · 01/01/2022 00:37

I am happy to hear these 3 have received the recognition they definitely deserved & for all those scientists, medical personal & engineers et al who worked so hard behind the scenes to find the vaccines medications treatments & make them -
Whether people admit it or not they have saved millions of lives
(& of course NHS & care workers who saved lives)

LemonViolet · 01/01/2022 00:38

Do they become Sir Prof? How many titles in a row can you have?

mumwon · 01/01/2022 00:38

@Starcup some people have strange desires...

whachatalkinaboutwillis · 01/01/2022 00:41

My son thought the bloke from Queer Eye was knighted and confused us all..... Grin

justasking111 · 01/01/2022 00:41

Tried to wade through the list mostly civil servants and we'll never know why

coffeerevelsrock · 01/01/2022 00:44

Very pleased that Tony Blair has been knighted as well as the three in the OP. Hopefully Gordon Brown will get one in a couple of years too.

GlacindaTheTroll · 01/01/2022 00:45

I love it that Daniel Craig got a CMG, as that was the honour that James Bond had!
