New Year's Honours list- all 3 knighted.
So very deserved. I am delighted for them, especially for Chris Whitty and JVT.

Very pleased for Whitty, Vallance and Van Tam. The job's not finished but they've done more than enough to earn it.

LemonViolet · 01/01/2022 00:48

Reading an article I think they are Prof Sir!!!

I am most pleased to see Frank Field given apparently the highest and most exclusive honour, apparently.

And it seems that Blair’s knighthood is a different kind than most given directly by the Queen rather than advised by the govt or anyone else if that makes any difference.

@SoupDragon

Chris Whitty?? Really? I wasn't aware he was a real person given his TV performances in those PSAs
sadly he is real. Hopefully now he has his medal and he has got 2 years of limelight he might disappear? We can only hope and pray
Newyearoldyou · 01/01/2022 00:51

Blair didn't only falsify documents but apparently didn't want any police investigation/ into police failings around into Stephen Lawrence death AngryAngryAngry

Yay to Chris whitty but as for jenny harries??

Jenny harries has stood there and told us it's OK to mix (beginning of pandemic,) then said masks do fuck all.... Then tells everybody to stop mixing, wear masks.... Except people in school because covid doesn't bother with schools...

Disgusting if you ask me.

Newyearoldyou · 01/01/2022 00:52

Yy to dear Frank field.

A quiet humble man sadly viciously attacked by people from his own party but ironically the type of labour politicians really they need.

Tealightsandd · 01/01/2022 00:52

@GameofPhones

Knighthood for Tony Blair devalues the whole thing.
This x a billion percent!

Fantastic news for Whitty, Vallance, and JVT but.... Blair??? Angry UGH!!!

Someone has got to be trolling the public with that.

I wasn't even going to come back on here tonight but poor DP's already had to start the new year with me ranting and spluttering Grin

Trying to think of a silver lining... Perhaps Blair's jokehood is the low point of 2022 over and done early? Hopefully unlike April 1997 things can only get better 🤞

PheasantsNest · 01/01/2022 00:54

Very well deserved. I'm over the moon the lovely Martin Lewis got one too Smile

Did he get an honour?

That's cheered me up after the Blair news. Yes well deserved for Frank Field.

Eh?

He looks like a computer generated person. Or a robot. No facial expression or movement whatsoever beyond his lips moving to speak. Truly awful choice to do the PSAs.

Are you trying to be funny? Or are you just weird? 🙄
CatWithARabbit · 01/01/2022 01:14

I am disgusted about Tony Blair!!
He does not deserve this honour - he is a despicable man in my opinion

ChudraWouldaShouldya · 01/01/2022 01:19

@GlacindaTheTroll

I love it that Daniel Craig got a CMG, as that was the honour that James Bond had!
This was my favourite. Not only the award James Bond got but the one that was usually given to spies when they retired from the Secret Service 🥰
StormyCornishSeas · 01/01/2022 01:30

Speaking of James Bond Barbara Broccoli the producer also got a nod

I'm so pleased that Laura and Jason Kenny the cyclists are Dame & Sir

LyndaLaHughes · 01/01/2022 01:41

Jenny Harries is not deserving of it. But I suspect there would have been accusations of sexism if she'd been left out, despite her obvious incompetence and many gaffes during the pandemic. She has no integrity so was wheeled out whenever the plan didn't follow the science, as a government mouthpiece. Chris Whitty and JVT have too much integrity for that and have both been superb.

Couldn't agree less with this. He's been an excellent choice as he's shown integrity, honesty and clearly knows his stuff. People are sick of practiced performers and want truth and people who actually know what they are talking about. He is also clearly incredibly well-liked and respected within the NHS. He oozes decency in contrast to those who has had to stand alongside.
Itonlytakesonetree · 01/01/2022 02:11

No idea what JVT is, guessing random person. Fucking awful re Tony Blair, the man is scum. Loving the info re Daniel Craig, genius effort.

MerryChristmas21 · 01/01/2022 02:13

I'm pleased for CE & JVT

BUT TB - no fucking way!!!

How unkind. He seems uncomfortable with public speaking, but being thrust into the role of giving daily briefings to the nation and fielding questions he did so calmly and competently whilst batting down the witterings of his bumbling sidekick before they got too out of hand. No mean feat for someone who had no idea at the beginning of 2020 that any of this would be part of his life.

The fact that people like you continue to scrutinise his looks is so vapid, when so many others who have stood before us have so many greater failings.

NiceTwin · 01/01/2022 02:57

Glad Chris Witty has been recognised, he has been the unwavering calm amid the storm.

The less said about Tony Blair, the better!!

Jonathan Van-Tam- the deputy chief medical officer. He is the man who has the brilliant analogies during the briefings and explains things incredibly well. He also famously told people not to "tear the pangs out of it".
LyndaLaHughes · 01/01/2022 05:24

Pants! not pangs sorry

Itonlytakesonetree · 01/01/2022 06:41

Grin thanks Lynda - not seen any briefings, so he has passed me by.
Toddlerteaplease · 01/01/2022 06:45

@caringcarer

I am just furious Tony Blaire got knighthood after falisfying documents to take us to war. Absolutely not deserved.
Not just a knighthood. He's been made a Knight of the Garter. I'm Amazed.
Woodlandwater · 01/01/2022 06:49

What do you get with a Knight/damehood? I'd want at least 40% off Dorothy Perkins

ShirleyPhallus · 01/01/2022 07:08

I can’t see why Kate Garraway has been awarded something, plenty of people have had loved ones ill/ dying.
