Hello Ladies - hopefully a new thread for you... @Carosel2 @Whitestar55 @Chrissols @danblack87 @flutterby18 @wfh21 @workingfromhomenow @cherryblossom114 @Lovemydaxie @homeworkmum and anyone else I have forgotten.

and now my day is complete - just had roofer round to look at a couple of missing/broken tiles - £100 to replace. Okay.

The felt in the roof that needs replacing - only by a new roof, as can only be done by removing the old roof and useless putting old tiles back so about £17,500....

danblack87 · 04/03/2022 15:16

@Carosel2: Hopefully your cheque will be in tomorrow - fingers' x'd for you.

Whitestar55 · 04/03/2022 15:33

@Gally123 Is it a slate roof? If so, I was told not to worry about the disintegrated felt as slate tiles are the best and don't need felting anyway.

Gally123 · 04/03/2022 15:41

@Whitestar55 - no it is not slate. when the plumber went up in the roof a couple of weeks ago to check on water tanks he thought it felt rather damp, with water in the air. I have old tiles that do not fit edge to edge as slates do so rain can blow in any cracks.

@Gally123 oh I bet you just want to cry forever! What a nightmare! 😥 @danblack87 Oh I do hope so! 🤞Glad its weekend I really have had enough with Dict8 today, 🥶

danblack87 · 04/03/2022 15:46

@Gally123: I feel so sorry for you, you seem to be getting all the worse shite so far this year with house what with one thing and another. My day has not been Gr8 ... have managed to do some work but currently this first working week of the month averaging £10 a day and it is SHOCKING. Lap top keeps freezing out but that is not the main problem .,... it is just that the work available on Dict8 is not good. Wine, Wine and more Wine required and a hot bath ... giving up today Sad

Gally123 · 04/03/2022 15:51

@carosel2 - I think I am past crying. Just grin and bare it, it has to be done. On the plus front, my neighbour had a new roof about four or five years ago (it was very noisy so not looking forward to it disrupting work, thankfully there always seems to be Tpro in the evening), and she said it made the house warmer, so with higher energy bills I could do with something positive.
@danblack87 - not sorted the bathroom yet fully, floor yet to be replaced and at present the door does not shut properly. I will be having a glass (or two) of wine tonight.

@Gally123: I really feel for you. I live in a Housing Association property - been here 26 years. SO I don't have to worry about Buildings insurance, or costs in that respect just the upheaval when things go wrong. Flowers

Whitestar55 · 04/03/2022 15:59

@Gally123 Oh sorry to hear that. I have a slate roof. Three blew off in the last storm, one landed in the back yard and smashed, the other landed on the roof of the extension and was ok and the third was just hanging over the edge, meanwhile the window sill flooded, but the two slates have been put back on now, plus one new one. I hope your roof lasts a bit longer, how many years of typing would it take to afford a new one!!

Whitestar55 · 04/03/2022 16:02

I want to go and live in the Lammas Ecovillage in Wales, in a wattle and daub hut if it means I don't have to transcribe for the rest of my days Grin

danblack87 · 04/03/2022 16:14

@whitestar55: You do make me laugh Grin.. I have enough 'isolation' as it is LOL

carosel2 · 04/03/2022 16:38

@Gally123 yes Tpro is my saving grace. Im making enough at the.moment with them to get me through, still £17,500 makes.my eyes sting just looking at that figure! Hope things start to.settle down for you soon, I dont normally have a glass this early but I don't feel too good fluey symptoms and sore throat, aching joints. Ive not had Covid yet but my tests negative today, it must just be another virus but Im supping one with some painkillers to make.me chill out. @Whitestar55 😄 I wouldnt mind isolation, ive had 3 of my little grandkids 2 days this week and older ones tomoz. My caravan is.open now so looking forward to my weekends away but when weather picks up. Have a good weekend evryone! 🍷My heart and thoughts are with Ukraine at the moment and all the innocent people in the middle of this very sad situation 😢

Gally123 · 04/03/2022 16:40

@danblack87 - before I moved into the bungalow I lived in 2 lots of flats - the first one on the sixth floor with a flat roof that leaked, and I said never again and I often used to hear drip, drip, drip. Then I moved to a third floor flat in a different block - flat roof that leaked. There was a section by a window where the ceiling had paper on it (like a tiered ceiling) and the paper was loose and I touched it and a stream of water ran down my arm! Flats, huh. The managing agents take care of repairs...eventually.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 04/03/2022 16:41

@carosel2 - yep, a leaking roof is nothing compared to losing your house etc and family in Ukraine.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 04/03/2022 16:47

@Gally123: Luckily I live in a 2 bed house and not a flat and I have a massive garden that my 'office' looks out onto (the spare room) I have to pay £70 a month for the spare room though as I live on my own now. I have never had the experience of living in a flat. I moved into my house after my daughter was born and have never left ... too many memories.

danblack87 · 04/03/2022 16:53

My daughter's father died when she was 7 following a diagnosis of a brain tumour when she was 5 ... NO, I will never leave this house!!!

danblack87 · 04/03/2022 17:05

@Carosel2: you be careful with that wine and painkillers ,,, more vino less tablets!!

danblack87 · 04/03/2022 17:17

I went out yesterday to a Ukranian donation centre and delivered a couple of blankets, some pillows and 2 duvets, my daughter went with me, she took some of my grandchild's second-hand but 'new-looking' 'barely' worn winter coats and jumpers for 2-3 year olds. It's so sad in this day and age to watch someone wanting to destroy people - 'for what??' It's disgusting.

Gally123 · 04/03/2022 17:25

@danblack87 - I used to work with a consultant whose specialty was brain tumour patients. It was so sad all the teenagers coming in. It must have been very hard for you with the change in personality that often happens etc. (My sister has that with her other half following his stroke).

OP posts:
carosel2 · 04/03/2022 17:56

@danblack87- I will, dont worry just had paracetamol and ibuprofen for my aches and pains. Settled now and having my tea. That must have been a terrible time for you and your little girl the poor man 😥. Thats a lovely gesture what you have done for the Ukraine people. They need all the help.we can give

Meha5a · 04/03/2022 18:37

@carosel2, had the sore throat, tickly cough (drove me insane), flu-like symptoms for 8 days now but also tested negative for COVID went to the doctors to be told might be COVID might not, that the home tests are 50/50 and my tonsils were not infected (I told her I have no tonsils !!!! 🤣 ) I think it must be a thing with COVID makes people speak in riddles.

carosel2 · 04/03/2022 19:03

@Meha5a- 😁 its crazy, I had somat similar last October, was knocked off my feet but all my tests were negative then too. GP said I had strep throat and gave me antibiotics but it didn't help one bit

Meha5a · 04/03/2022 19:11

@carosel2, yep I felt like I was getting better then on day 4 and ever since have felt so tired and ache all over !!

deewu · 06/03/2022 15:21

Why is it at the weekend for me there is lots of really really clear dictation, names spelt out, difficult words (which are not difficult) spelt out? It is too tempting not to do some after the rubbish in the week!

danblack87 · 07/03/2022 08:07

@deewu: it is true for me too that the dictations at weekends are far better ... there does not seem to be so much background noise/chatter either.
