Is there a thing in your house , or something you've always wanted , that makes your home feel finished or

" posh " ?
For me it was going to a friends house as a child , and seeing they had a doorbell . We never had one as at my parents house , and when first married and in rented houses never had one . Once in our own home , having a doorbell makes my day ! ( Told you it was daft )Grin

It's so weird reading these. My parents were wealthy/ posh but sent us to the local village school for primary. I remember feeling embarrassed having friends round and wishing we had things like pre sliced bread/cheap ice cream/squash (rather than fresh fruit juice) etc. I thought they were the height of fashion and felt very left out!

A glass of port or brandy after supper as Lord Peter Wimsy did after his Dinner.

Will always be a Vienetta! Even now 30 odd years later one always makes an occasion feel "extra"

My Granny had a kettle (on a gas ring) with a whistle on it - while we had to watch ours until it boiled. (which, of course, they never do)

Using cake forks.
Having a loose leaf tea.
Eating M&S food!

No beige/grey/brown carpets!

I've been renting all my adult life, and we just bought our house - the first thing I did was strip out the horrible 80s carpets that had been clawed/weed on by generations of dogs, and paint the floorboards white.

Also smoked salmon. I think it used to be proportionally much, much more expensive. When I turned 21 my godmother sent me a M&S voucher and a note inviting me to buy some - it felt very decadent. I know now it is 3.99 a pack and you could reasonably have a taste with scrambled eggs for a not-terribly-spendy fancy brunch, but it still seems special.

Not buying the cheapest of food/drink. I know I'm not in the £1000s wine bracket but I feel great not scanning the prices and being able to buy a £12 bottle as and when I want.

just proper heating and hot water on demand really
